Utility work on Main Street in the Central Business District (CBD) in preparation for Cincinnati Streetcar construction.
I took this in my neighborhood of Mira Mesa Art which is painted on the electrical boxes. All of the boxes are painted by local artist that are trying to beautify our neighborhood. The artist are all from different backgrounds, are at different skill levels and are using different styles of painting.

Small tornado came up the other side of the street yesterday and took down a lot of big trees. These guys are replacing the broken utility pole and putting back up the power lines. The house in the right edge of the picture is directly across the street and it suffered considerable roof damage. Both houses in the picture had the garage doors bowed in so they will have to be replaced. 2 days ago this scene would have shown a big pine tree and a very tall walnut tree --- both victims of the storm. I lost 2 large limbs from a maple tree in my yard but no house damage. The storm swiveled the mirrors on the pickup truck in the very lower right corner of the picture to where they were parallel with the cab.
This is a simple take on the jedi utility belt. This started life as 2" wide belt with a 1" belt fed through slits and fastened with press studs. The accsessories are a press stud petrol lighter pouch made from the steering wheel cover, and a matchbook with holder for ignition strip detailed with a pewter amulet.

Harbin was full of people using bicycles to do what we in the U.S. would do with a small truck. This woman raked the grass and emptied the trash cans, carrying both yard waste and trash bags on the back of her bike/utility vehicle. I wonder if, as China develops, the use of bicycles in this way will continue. It seems so reasonable and so healthy to me - better for the workers, better for the environment, better in terms of conserving natural resources . . . I hope that workers in the U.S. adopt the use of bikes in these circumstances.
