For all the folks that faved and commented on the single stamp that I posted I thank you but I became aware that posting the detailed pic of the complete stamp art may not be in my best interest. I therefore removed that pic and I've reposted with this one. I appreciate all the comments and favs and have a great day!

The USPS started the Love stamp series in 1973. The 2022 issue features artwork by Bailey Sullivan, who was inspired by old European folk art.

The United States Postal Service released the 2022 Love Stamp edition with a first day ceremony held Jan. 14 2022 at the Romeo Masonic Lodge 41 in Romeo, Mich.

In some rural areas, mail boxes are clustered like this. Ultraviolet light from the sun relentlessly beats down on the lettering and numbers of addresses. Everything fades over time. Time marches on.

Quite the beauty -- found in a private lot on Capp St., between 17th and 18th. At first I thought it was a Cushman, but then I remembered that all the mail trucks I've seen have been made by Grumman. Who knows? It could be some other manufacturer. I don't have the patience to research it.

Astrid thinks the US Postal Service is in the business of delivering treats door to door. She stalks our mail carrier, Nancy, all over the neighborhood. She's been known to jump in the mail truck and root around for the treat stash.

It must be a very desperate hour indeed if she's depending on the U.S. Postal Service to deliver the Death Star plans.

Thanks to Chelsea Hostetter for giving me the R2-D2 mailbox. How cool is that?

Happy Birthday New Mexico!!

Went to the date of issue stamp ceremony today. Then had birthday cake at the Roundhouse..

Happy Birthday to the land I love. the land that makes 100 years seem so trivial in the real scheme of things.

I always loved the Boxtops version, but this has to be seen (and heard).

Operated for the US Postal Service by Ryan International.

Built as a Boeing 727-22C with a main deck cargo door, this aircraft could be operated with passengers or as a freighter. It was delivered to United Airlines as N7412U in Oct-66.

It was sold back to Boeing in part exchange in Oct-81 and immediately sold to Emery Worldwide and converted to a full freighter. It was re-registered N429EX in Apr-82 and operated for Emery by Interstate Airlines.

The operation for Emery was transferred to Cam Air International in 1984. Cam Air was merged into Spirit of America Airlines in May-85 while operations for Emery continued. In Nov-87 it was sold to a lessor and leased back to Emery Worldwide, operated by Spirit of America Airlines.

In May-88 it was transferred to Orion Air operated for Emery. Emery was renamed Emery Worldwide Airlines in May-89. In Dec-89 the aircraft was transferred to Ryan International Airlines and operated for the US Postal Service.

It was sold back to Emery in Apr-93 and continued in service with Ryan International until it was retired at Goodyear, AZ, USA in Aug-01. It was sold to Air Transworld Ltd in Nov-01 and leased to Planair (Angola) as D2-FFA. The aircraft was transferred to Angola Air Charter in Feb-03 and was eventually broken up at Luanda, Angola (date unknown).

United States Postal Service mail trucks, mainly Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs), lined up at the Waltham, Massachusetts mail handling facility this winter.

I previously incorrectly identified these vehicles as Grumman LLVs; this was pointed out to me several months after posting this image. There are two LLVs in this image; one at the end of the line of vehicles facing to the left, and one in the back with square taillights.

I put a creative commons license on this because it fits with my general theme of making pictures of logistics more accessible. I like to have people think about the things that make modern life function behind the scenes.

I finally got to shoot a picture of one of the old mail vans parked in front of a mid century home.

Caught the mailman trudging through the snow, on his way to the next house.

Western Week in Scottsdale kicks off with the Hash Knife Pony Express delivering the mail 200 miles from Holbrook to Scottsdale.

The Hashknife Pony Express Riders are preceded by a rider carrying the US Flag, riders from the Navajo County Sheriff's Office, and riders from the Navajo County Sheriffs Posse. There was a big ceremony and an address by Governor Hobbs.

hashknifeponyexpress.com/hashknife-history/

Neither rain, sleet, nor dark of night can stop the Hashknife Pony Express. Each January/February for the last 61 years, the old west is brought to life as an elite group of riders thunder through Arizona. This exciting event is the oldest officially sanctioned Pony Express in the world. Each rider is sworn in as an honorary mail messenger braving weather, terrain, and modern-day obstacles to deliver the United States mail.

Beginning in historic Holbrook, the horseback mail route covers over 200 miles from the majestic Mogollon Rim through the wilderness of the Mazatzal range to the desert city of Scottsdale, "The West's most Western Town."

The Hashknife was a tool originally used by chuck wagon cooks to cut meat for hash, often fed to cowboys on the range. The Hashknife brand originated in Texas as the identification of the Aztec Land and Cattle Company, which moved to Holbrook, AZ in 1866. Later, in 1957, the Navajo County Sheriff's Posse retained limited use of the brand. The Hashknife brand now identifies the Pony Express. Riders are members of the Navajo County Sheriff's Posse or their invited guests.

The Hashknife outfit has the longest contract with the U.S. Postal Service and annually delivers around 20,000 pieces of first-class mail bearing the valued "Via Pony Express" cachet which is hand-stamped by the riders before the start of the ride. The "Official Pony Express Envelope" can be purchased for $1 each at the Holbrook, Joseph City, Winslow, Overgaard, Pine, Heber, Payson, Lakeside/Pinetop, Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, and Snowflake Post Offices. Mailers are also available at the Scottsdale Museum of the West, 3830 N Marshall Way, Scottsdale

Your letter will be hand-stamped with the official ride logo, the treasured cachet coveted by stamp collectors around the world. The deadline for getting your letters to the Post Office is Tuesday, January 31st at 4 pm in Scottsdale and Holbrook. So pick up your official envelopes and start writing!
