Invited to deliver a talk in Bangalore at GIDS: Great Indian Developer Summit. The title: 'What Every Developer Must Know About User-Interface Design and UX’. The event was held at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
As I started speaking, the room started filling. Within minutes, all the seats were taken. People kept pouring in. Soon some were seated on the floor. Others crowded the aisles. In another few minutes even the corridor leading to the room was filled with people. What an experience! I was besieged with questions and chats once the talk finished, and within no time the seats to my Design workshop to be held the next day was sold out to max capacity! Bangalore!

I kind of expected to run into ultra-high tech, but Brian reminded me that the Navy is efficient even down to economics. They use everything until it becomes inoperable or a hindrance to performance that cannot be overcome with discipline or manpower. Thus, 1950s control panels like this one.
I am reminded that it was in World War II that the American military first noticed that well-trained personnel were making mistakes because the machines had become too difficult for even well-trained personnel to use, and thereby the birth of my industry. Then it was called Human Factors Engineering. This panel is nice evidence in that history.

Why is Ubuntu desktop dependent on rdesktop?
This has got to be a the dumbest thing I've seen for a while. Ubuntu has a nice auto-update feature that chimes in when updates are ready to be applied.
So I check what needs to be updated and what do I see but rdesktop (an RDP desktop client for Windows NT/2000 terminal server) needs an update for some vulnerability. I don't need it so remove it right?
Well if you remove this piece of useless software I have to remove all of the Ubuntu desktop. Why? Does the whole desktop depend on this?
