This is one Stinky Old Photograph: This photo was taken a while back and the amount of camera gear I have has grown by leaps and bounds (not sure yet if this is a good or bad thing). You can see the new gear photo by going here.

Original Desc: Well here it is, my camera gear...all indivudally noted and all strewn out for the world to see. 90% of it was bought in the last 10 months. It all fits in the camera bags at the top and the bags are normally packed to the brim with the gear.

My wife is a very patient and kind soul but I think I'm at the limit for a good long while, when I was arranging this stuff on the bed to take photo of it in our guest room she just about snapped seeing everything laying there. If I buy much else I will probably be justifiably shot, so if I stop suddenly posting to Flickr you'll know I likely got a new piece of gear and was subsequently killed.

I enjoy a number of hobbies (music, cars, cycling, camping, boating, technology and more), but one of the things I like about photography is it's a hobby that can be incorperated into every other hobby and aspect of life. In photography I've found something that I really, really enjoy and is a way I can have a semi-creative outlet for my soul. But as cool as photography is, music is still my main passion and I think that's the way it will always be...

NOTE: This photo made it into Flickr's 'Explore" as one of the top five hundred most interesting photos on a particular day. You can see all of my photo's that have made it into the Flickr Explore pages here.

Because my specialty is black and white macro photography, I went for a B&W-shot that is lit from above. The subject of the photograph is a micro USB cable.

The cable on the photo is approximately 1,5 cm long.

HMM everybody! Thanks for the views, faves and comments! It's much appreciated! :)

This is the electrical life line for my phone, the Micro USB cable, and now its broken. It has one more usefulness before being deposited in the rubbish, this week’s Macro Monday shot. Happy Macro Mondays everybody.

:::

Hi! Sorry I hadn't posted in a while, but thank you all for your concern and emails.

I got home Monday morning, very late, napped and went to work... Forgot my USB cable, so all my shots were trapped in the camera. When I got home last night, I offloaded my pictures and went to sleep.

I will update y'all today.

You guys are sweet to worry... XOXOXOXO

:::

Angie stepped out onto the front porch and caught the sunrise before it completely shut down. I tried to download this from my phone yesterday via the flickr app (Negative Results). Trying again with a USB cable this morning!!! Happy Weekend Everyone!!! Hugs from Rocky Top Tennessee!!!

My first SLR was a Canon F1. It's a marvel of mechanical engineering. There are levers, gears and springs working in perfect timing to expose a patch of film and then advance that film to just the right spot to repeat the process on the next unexposed patch. The camera I used for this image has a marvel of a mechanical shutter that works to expose the image sensor to just the right amount of light to generate an image that can be saved to a memory card. The shutter mechanism is about the only mechanical device in the camera that directly contributes to the image. The rest of the process is a computer moving bits from the sensor to the card. There are some cameras that have no mechanical shutter. I have a little point and shoot from 2010 that uses a recording to imitate a shutter click. The computer centric nature of modern cameras means that batteries must be kept charged. Therefore, everywhere I have a computer there is not only a rat's nest of wires that go with the computer but as here a dangling mass of USB cables of various design for the battery chargers and power bricks necessary to keep everything going. This image is sixty-five mm across. HMM and thank you for any views, faves and comments.

The Agfa ePhoto CL18 is a digital camera made by Agfa-Gevaert with 0.3 mega pixel resolution.

The model was unveiled in April 2000 and went on sale in May of the same year. It was intended to be easy to use and to be sold at an affordable price. Therefore, it had a limited number of functions and lacked zoom and display for preview of the images.

The camera has a stationary memory of 2 megabytemegabytes, giving way to roughly 32 images and the images have the resolution 640 × 480 pixels, regardless of setting. The camera's weight is 117 grams. The images are transferred to the computer using USB cable, but it is also possible to view the images on a television set through a special förtydligaport

Orion Nebula / Nebulosa de Orión (M42, Messier 42, NGC 1976)

Second and last attempt in 2021 to shoot the M42 nebula, in this time with the same unmodified Sony A7M3 camera and Sony FE 100-400 GM lens, but I use the tracker Skytwatcher AZ-GTI in EQ Mode and QHY guided camera with 60mm tube to increase exposure times.

The location and the weather conditions were ideal, but everything began to go wrong when I did not carry the AC50s Powerbank with me to power the laptop, badly enough that I always carry another portable Powerbank for the tracker, this except the day. During the session, the Sony A7M3 did not admit to connecting any of the 2 Mini-USB cables that it carried for the remote shutter camera control, so I finally decided to launch the shots with the wireless remote control and keeping track of the exposure time.

Despite all this, for a 54 min. total exposure time, quite a few details of this magnificent nebula have been captured with this equipment. It is definitely worth the effort to use guided mount and tracking, there is a brutal difference in the results obtained compared to using only a tripod and low exposure times.

I will continue in future sessions trying to capture more light by increasing the number of shots and exposure.

This was a trial with the MeLE Nuc to see if things where right I had three nights to "play" with the whole set up. The Nuc sits under the Skywatcker ED80 so 5 long 3 m cables gone going to the laptop they all stay up on the top of the scope.

Night one did not work out at all could not get plate solve to work properly could hardly see the stars. After some two hours I gave up went to bed.

Night two I bumped plate solve exposure by more than double the time finally plate solve worked. So I thought I would try some thing to check if the system worked. On taking the very first photo it would not down load and I lost the camera. The usb cable that was supplied with the camera died. My only option was to bundle up my normal 3m cable and connect up to the camera and the Nuc and try a fix the whole lot to the scope. The whole thing looked like it was normally what I was use to seeing.

Night three I had to remove the dead cable and wrap the 3m one around the guide scope. I decided to do a real test set up the system to start on it own 6:45Pm. I sat in side the computer room and watched the sequence start flawless totally on its own. This is the result of those two nights some more 1m cables on there way to lessen the weight of cables. Plate solve has gone back to its normal 10 sec exposure time.

Taken for Macro Mondays theme "evolution". This image represents the evolution of communications from writing a letter to instant communications with anyone in the world via email or even texting. The stamp is a U.S. 10 cent airmail stamp from 1926 (when 10 cents was a lot of money just to send a letter). The blob with the cable is my mouse and its USB cable, which is the only thing I could find to represent a computer or smart phone that would fit in a macro image.

We were walking down the street. The three of us. Keiko, Skorj and I. Having a good time, in the drizzly and cool Tokyo afternoon. Minding our own business really. Walking off lunch, chatting, talking shop, taking pictures (At least some of us where, and some others, like me, thought they were, but I digress. You'll get it if you keep reading), marveling at Mr. Skorj's pinhole and Polaroid skills.

Point is we were walking down the street on our way to Ueno Park in search of stray cats to photograph. When all of a sudden. a man approached us, approached Skorj. A man with a somber look and dubious intentions, with an USB cable protruding from his sweater.

He offered to sell Skorj a camera. 1000 yen, he said, in his very thick Russian accent.

Apparently he was a Russian sailor, selling some cameras for pocket money, selling friend's cameras he brought with him on the ship. The rest of the details are fuzzy.

The camera was a Lomo Lubitel 166B. The shutter cocking lever was missing but other than that it looked interesting and in pretty good shape for a toy camera. Ahh, it did have a roll inside, not yet done with, in need of developing.

After a conversation, negotiation and much amusement had by all (except the Russian, who did not smile once) Skorj opted to buy the camera just so he could get the film inside and see what happened with it. The Russian wrote an address on a very colorful Russian photo shop mailer so that Skorj would mail him the photos if they came out? I'm not sure. I have the envelope now.

The 2nd camera offered to us was a very cute half frame toy camera, an old Russian Agat 18, loaded with film. Same price. 1000 yen.

Nobody else wanted it. So, of course, I bought it. I winded the roll in the Agat when I returned home and I do not think I'll get anything from it, but the canister is here, sitting on my desk. As soon as I read the info on the camera that Keiko so kindly sent to me I'll load some film in it and take it out for a spin.

Anyway, back to the story of the photo:

Later on during a coffee break, Skorj offered the Lubitel to Keiko and I. Keiko passed. I passed. But Skorj said he would toss it if nobody wanted it. You can do TTV with it, he said. Hmm, I've forgotten all about TTV. Okay, so, I gladly accepted the gift.

Mind you, I had taken photos of the whole thing. The sale, the passing the camera around, the three of us at the café, the cameras. All with my Hasselblad.

Thing is, later on, while at Ueno Park, when we finally found some kitty cats that stayed and posed for us and meowed for us and let us pet them and after all the wonderful, crazy and funny things that happened to the three of us that day; of meeting Keiko and Skorj and walking and shooting around town, when I finished my 220 roll on the Hasselblad and it was time to wind the film and reload, I realized there was no tension when cranking the back.

There wasn't any roll inside the Hasselblad. I had shot twenty-four imaginary photographs.

Photos of people, of people with cameras, of Keiko and Skorj taking photos with their Polaroids (Keiko's lovely green leather beauty) and pinholes, of hybrid sakura trees with white and intense pink flowers in the same branch, in the same clusters. Photos of kitty cats in Ueno Park and people enjoying picnics under the Sakura trees, with sakura petals raining on them and at least four or five frames of the Russian incident.

Of all the photos taken that Sunday afternoon, this Polaroid is the only hard copy of our Tokyo Russian sailor street camera seller adventure that made it to Seattle with me. I had forgotten all about it until a few days ago, when I found it in an envelope with Akane's postcards and the rest of the Polaroids I brought back with me. This Polaroid alone lived to tell the tale of the Russian and the Lubitel and of a wonderful afternoon spent with two lovely people, two Polaroid friends.

Somewhere along the way from Asakusa to Ueno Park, right before the coffee break and after the restaurant supply shop district.

I'm dangling a USB cable next to the lens.

We (myself, kristin, and 10 others) took a limo to see coldplay earlier this month - which was my first time seeing them, and an amazing show.

Lucky for us the limo's head unit (CD player) had a USB input that could be used with a thumb drive or iPod. Even luckier for us was that someone had an iPod USB cable in their bag! Everything worked out and we were able to listen to the silver nano (that I keep in my backpack for rainy days) throughout the entire trip.

Poundland is always my friend when I can't think of what to photograph for a theme.

I found this usb cable with a multi coloured cable there, which was perfect

This is the latest data set I have processed from GrandMesaObservatory.com

As the moon was almost full it was a logical target for this test. This is the first time I have used this new QHY168M Mono CMOS camera and also the first time I have used the Optec Gemini Focusing Rotator on the 12" RC. I’ll be doing a review on the Gemini shortly but needless to say it really is a great focuser.

The QHY168M is essentially a QHY168C One Shot Color camera that has been converted to Mono and sent to Grand Mesa Observatory for testing. I’m very impressed with the results so far and It uses a 16 Megapixel, Sony IMX071 APS-C Format sensor 4952x3288 with 4.8um x 4.8um pixels. For the Filter Wheel I am using the QHYCFW2-M with 36mm un mounted Optolong Filters. Because the camera is a converted OSC it does not have the regular 4 pin filter wheel connection, instead the connection is made via a single USB cable directly to the PC using an Ascom RS232 driver, I had some problems initially with the RS232 driver however the latest driver works very well except if trying to use in TheSkX. I believe QHYCCD and Bisque are working hard to resolve the driver issues with TheSkyX. I am very impressed with the sensitivity of the camera and for this first test I selected a gain of 4 and offset of 30, the data was calibrated with Bias, Dark and Flat Frames, Pre Processed and combined in Pixinsight, Post Processing in Photoshop CC.
