The 340 uses to be the only route to find these newer Streetdeck diesels when it was based at Garston (GR) Garage under Arriva The Shires. Today you get a mix of hybrids and E400 diesels from Palmers Green (AD) while these units have been confined to the 329.
A mix of hills, town centres and passing the main Metroline base form the route so it’s quite quick if you pick the right type and skip a few stops along the way.
I’ve not had a ride on these SWs yet but I’m led to believe they’re a bit underpowered and strained.

I use the Kodak Duaflex mainly for ttv photography- but looking at these I wish I'd used more film in it in Paris- it is a great box camera. A lot sharper than my Holga, which I also had with me, and which played up a bit.
I bought this toy Eiffel tower from the boy in the middle ground, who was selling them on the Pont d'Iena,
The name Chinatown has been used at different times to describe different places in London. The present Chinatown is part of the City of Westminster, occupying the area in and around Gerrard Street. It contains a number of Chinese restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, souvenir shops, and other Chinese-run businesses.
The first area in London known as Chinatown was located in the Limehouse area of the East End of London. At the start of the 20th century, the Chinese population of London was concentrated in that area, setting up businesses which catered to the Chinese sailors who frequented in Docklands. The area began to become known through exaggerated reports and tales of (the then-legal) opium dens and slum housing, rather than the Chinese restaurants and supermarkets in the current Chinatown. However, much of the area was damaged by aerial bombing during the Blitz in the Second World War, although a number of elderly Chinese still choose to live in this area. After the Second World War, however, the growing popularity of Chinese cuisine and an influx of immigrants from Hong Kong led to an increasing number of Chinese restaurants being opened elsewhere.
The present Chinatown, which is off Shaftesbury Avenue did not start to be established until the 1970s. Up until then, it was a regular Soho area, run-down, with Gerrard Street the main thoroughfare. It was dominated by the Post Office, facing Macclesfield Street, and other major establishments were The Tailor & Cutter House, at 43/44, now a Chinese supermarket and restaurant, the Boulougne Restaurant, near the Wardour Street end, and by Peter Mario's Restaurant at the other end. Other businesses included a master baker's, the Sari Centre, Lesgrain French Coffee House, Harrison Marks' Glamour Studio, an Indian restaurant and various brothels. Probably the first Chinese restaurants opened in Lisle Street, parallel to Gerrard St, and then spread gradually. The Tailor & Cutter did not close down until around 1974.
The area boasts over 80 restaurants showcasing some of London's finest and most authentic Asian cuisine.
In 2005, the property developer Rosewheel proposed a plan to redevelop the eastern part of Chinatown. The plan was opposed by many of the existing retailers in Chinatown, as they believe that the redevelopment will drive out the traditional Chinese retail stores from the area and change the ethnic characteristic of Chinatown.
The London Chinatown Community Centre (LCCC) has been housed in the Chinatown area since it was founded in 1980 by Dr Abraham Lue. The Centre claims to have received 40,000 people for help and assistance since its foundation. Located since 1998 on the 2nd floor of 28-29 Gerrard Street, the Centre relocated to 2 Leicester Court in 2012, above the Hippodrome Casino.
Using my whip, I hurled Two Face's thug into the Mad Hatter while he teetered like a fool on a tall chair, firing his gun in the air at nothing. I jumped onto the table, knocking over the teapot, which seemed familiar to me somehow.
"For scaring my babies and shooting me in my own home.." I snatched up the grisly machete and raised my arm menacingly. The poor girl wimpered, but not because of me..
"SELINA! Put it down! We don't kill!" Batman's grating voice filled the air, plunging the night deeper into the surreal.
My vision blurred and I felt dizzy suddenly. My wound had opened up when I threw Two Face's goon at Hatter. As my head spun I started noticing things, like they had been there all along, but never seemed connected. The flowers, the riddles, the fear, the teapot made from the lamp I stole from the museum. Somehow it was all connected.
I tossed the machete aside and vanished while Batman freed the girl. He would be too busy cleaning up this mess. It was his Gotham after all, I just live here.
Use it or lose it. I'm using what's left of my mind and I enjoy it very much and it seems to keep my mind productive

Brasília (pron. [bɾaˈziʎɐ]) é a capital federal do Brasil e a sede do governo do Distrito Federal. A capital brasileira é a maior cidade do mundo construída no século XX.

Brasília (Portuguese pronunciation: [bɾaˈziljɐ]) is the federal capital of Brazil and the seat of government of the Federal District. The city is located along the Brazilian Highlands in the country's Central-West region. It was founded on April 21, 1960, to serve as the new national capital. Brasília had an estimated population of 2,789,761 in 2013, making it the 4th most populous city in Brazil.
Among major Latin American cities, Brasília has the highest GDP per capita at R$61,915 (US$36,175).
Brasília was planned and developed by Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer in 1956 in order to move the capital from Rio de Janeiro to a more central location. The landscape architect was Roberto Burle Marx. The city's design divides it into numbered blocks as well as sectors for specified activities, such as the Hotel Sector, the Banking Sector and the Embassy Sector. Brasília was chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its modernist architecture.
The city has a unique status in Brazil, as it is an administrative division rather than a legal municipality like other cities in Brazil. Nationally, the term is almost always used synonymously with the Federal District, which constitutes an indivisible Federative Unit, analogous to a state. Several satellite cities are also part of the Federal District.
The centers of all three branches of the federal government of Brazil are in Brasília, including the Congress, President, and Supreme Court. The city also hosts 124 foreign embassies.[6] Brasília International Airport connects the capital to all major Brazilian cities and many international destinations, and is the third busiest airport in Brazil.
The city is one of the main host cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and will be the host city of 2019 Summer Universiade. Additionally, Brasília hosted the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.

1. If you have one of these old plastic kit lenses around, something that you are not using for anything serious, you can give it a new life as a macro lens by removing the front element. Here I have an old Canon 38-76 mm lens. You may find these in eBay, second hand stores, etc.
WARNING: This will not work with most lenses. When in doubt, try first with a throw-away broken lens or something that you won't mind breaking. By attempting this you most likely void warranty (if any), you may accidentally break your lens, or you may not be able to put it back together again. Plan ahead, don't hurry.
2. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to remove the plastic ring that is glued onto the front. Be careful not to tear or break it.
3. You'll find three tiny cross-head screws under the ring. They may be really tight. Cheap tools may not work here. Use a good, hardened, exact-fit screwdriver and keep it firmly in place, otherwise you may ruin the heads and then you can't remove the front element without breaking things. Try not to scratch the lens.
4. Pull the front element out. Now you have an odd-looking but fairly decent macro lens! Attach it normally to the camera (not in reverse; no adapters needed).
Keep the parts so you can put it back together later. You can the use lens cap and the front element together as a "lens cap" of the macro lens. A rubber band can keep things together.
The depth of field will be very shallow, so you may want to shoot with the smallest aperture you can. In bright sunlight this should be no problem. Otherwise you may want to use a tripod and a remote, or the camera's self-timer, and flash(es) etc. Without the front element the auto-focus will not work, so you'd better turn it off. Adjust the focus by moving the camera or the subject. You can fine-tune the focus by turning the zoom ring.
Using an extender increases the magnification.
You can see some macro sample shots taken with this lens here.
This was my first opportunity to try out the new Sony NEX-7 which will be generally available next month. For this session I used the SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle pancake lens and I have never liked it. I have ordered the SEL30M35 30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens and the SEL50F18 but they have not yet arrived.
[ I have just been informed that i will not receive them until April ]
And now a word about the location:
Henrietta Street is the earliest Georgian Street in Dublin – it is the model from which Dublin’s Georgian identity is derived. Construction on the street started in the mid 1720's, on land bought by the Gardiner family in 1721. Construction was still taking place in the 1750s. Gardiner had a mansion, designed by Richard Cassels, built for his own use around 1730.
Henrietta Street was lined on both sides by massive Georgian houses built on a palatial scale. At the top end of the street, a new James Gandon building, the King's Inns, was erected between 1795 and 1816. In this building, barristers were trained and earned their academic qualifications. Such was the prestige of the street that many of the most senior figures in Irish 'establishment' society, peers of the realm, judges, barristers, bishops bought houses here. Under the anti-Catholic Penal Laws, Roman Catholics, though the overwhelming majority in Ireland, were harshly discriminated against, barred from holding property rights or from voting in parliamentary elections until 1793. Thus the houses of Georgian Dublin, particularly in the early phase before Catholic Emancipation was granted in 1829, were almost invariably owned by a small Church of Ireland Anglican elite, with Catholics only gaining admittance to the houses as skivvies and servants.
The street fell into disrepair during the 19th and 20th centuries, with the houses being used as tenements, but has been the subject of restoration efforts in recent years.
There are currently 13 houses on the street. The street is a cul-de-sac, with the Law Library of King's Inns facing onto its western end.

Using a cameraphone to view negatives ...
I've been meaning to write this trick up as a mini tutorial, but for now this little example will have to do.
Occassionally I'll be looking at a negative and want to get a quick feel for what it looks like. In the case of the image here, it was brought in by a visitor to the Who Do You Think You Are? Live show where I was working dating old photographs.
The trick is simple: on your cameraphone (or on most 'point and shoot' digital cameras) put the camera in 'negative' mode. This is often found in the 'options' or 'effects' menu. You'll see that the hand and all background objects (including the white sheet of paper it is being viewed against) now look odd, but the image itself is good enough for viewing.
