The grand finale of one grey and windy afternoon in January.

I went to check out the local beechwood for fungi with no intention to stay late, the weather was dull and unpredictable. But then decided to stay for a little bit longer at one of my favourite location… Cotswold Way, Lansdown Hill, near Bath. BANES, England, UK.

The weather this week wasn’t too exciting for going out with a lot of rain and wind brought in by storm Noa. But yesterday was a bit quitter and brighter day, and the sky in the evening promised a chance of sensible sunset. It wasn’t too bad at the end. The Cotswold Way, Lansdown Hill, near Bath. Probably not the best composed shot but there was some decent light in the woods today

Experiments in infra red in the back garden. Despite the April frosts my Magnolia is doing well. I was out early on to get a shot using the Z6 without any infra red conversion just with a with an Urth I-Red 72 filter and this set up seems to to do a decent IR shot. Had the camera on a tripod with the 2nd timer on it & I'm relatively pleased with the results. It probably looks more like a black and white than an ir shot. But I think when we have more leaves and blossom etc. It will work fine. I've tried IR filters on other lenses and cameras and I end up with hot spots so this seems a good combo. Hope you enjoy.

Brimstone and fire. Hell upon earth. This single apocalyptic image was taken mid-day using a MIOPS trigger in lightning mode. Knowing that a lightning storm was blowing in from the west, I set my K3 up in a west facing bedroom window before heading out to work. Using an 8-stop ND filter, my exposure was 1/4 of a second at F/8. The MIOPS woks great, capturing even distant flashes as seen here on the bottom right. The MIOPS captured and counted 114 strikes during my workday. Unfortunately, the battery in my K3 gave out, only recording several images. My bad, I should of have put in a fresh fully charged one (I will be buying an AC adapter soon!) But despite my screw-up, I'm pleased with what few images I did get. Shooting in the 518. Pentax K3 with a Pentax 16-45mm lens, MIOPS Smart Trigger, Urth 8-stop ND filter, my old tilt-all tripod, and a somewhat clean bedroom window.

Just some little buds. The focus isn't 100% on, but I think it's still works.

This is my first attempt to use a vintage lens: Nikkor 50mm f1.4 attached to my R5 with an Urth adapter.

This was an experimental photograph. It was taken in the middle of a very bright and sunny day. The ND1000 filter on its own wasn’t giving me the effect I was after. I added my variable ND filter to the ND1000 to give me the equivalent of 12-14 stops. The result is a 3 minute (180 sec) exposure. The ocean was quite rough, with a lot of choppy waves crashing near the shore, hence the areas of white in the water. You would never know, but a dog ran through the middle of the scene halfway through the exposure. I was surprised that there was no ghost of the dog in the image.

Loving the new Urth ND1000 filter.

This is a telephoto shot of a couple of rocks in a fast flowing & turbulent stream. I reminds me of high mountain tops peaking out above the clouds.

Under the Seaford Pier, Victoria Australia. This is a bracketed HDR photo. The colours of the final and the 6x4 crop didn’t do much for me. I decided to make it black & white which gave the photo a huge lift. As soon as I cropped it to a 1x1 square, it looked 10 times better.

This was a really dark and dirty scene. It’s a murky, muddy creek, under a freeway overpass. Really bad light, surrounded by mud, weeds and litter. I used the new ND1000 filter on my telephoto lens to smooth out the water and exclude the surrounding crap. In reality it’s only about 6” deep, but it looks far more inviting now.

This is version 2, cropped in a 5x4 for Instagram.

I’m very much going through a colour phase, after shooting almost exclusively black and white over the winter. My wisteria has flowered the best ever this year, so I wanted to capture its dreamy beauty. I thought it suited a higher key look, than my usual dark style.

I took this last week, yet when I edited it, I didn't think it worked. I looked at it this afternoon and think otherwise :)

I was drawn to the contrast between the green leaves and the somewhat withered yellowy leaves. The 50mm Pentax lens is really quite sharp, when it wants to be.

I used the AF Micro Nikkor 55mm 2.8 vintage lens with my R5 and Urth adapter (which works really well). I am crazy about the plaid bokeh it produced!

I have been "Flickred out" for a couple of months - sort of blah and in a slump/block or whatever you call it regarding photography. You can also include a large dose of laziness if you want. Apologies to all my contacts and I will get caught up with you ASAP. Please don't forget me or delete me!!

What else are you going to do when you've got a spare ten minutes to fill... ? Two images blended (sky 600" and Foreground 60") ..

I finally got a chance to have a play with my new Urth ND1000 filter today. I really love looking at some of the long exposure “fine art” photography on Flickr. It’s something I’ve wanted to try for a long time. Hopefully more opportunities will arise soon to take some nice seaside long exposure photos.

The district heating substation Blekerstraat Rotterdam (1961) mainly serves as an emergency facility in the event of calamities or extreme cold now.

The modernist building is enclosed on three sides by the surrounding building blocks but is free-standing. It fills almost the entire Second Blekerhof. It has a steel skeleton; the facades consist of a combination of glass surfaces and brick. The building has a nicely utilitarian character and mainly forms an enclosure for the heating boilers. The building was commissioned in 1961 and designed by Municipal Works Rotterdam.

Something completely different. I have been testing my black mist filter on a late summer evening. Just to see how such a filter handles in the last evening light and to create a dreamy, film-like effect. Maybe not one of my best shots, but somehow I like it. I hope to use this filter later on in the coming fall. Best viewd in Large (press: L).

The City grain elevator No.19 (built in 1929) is the only remaining floating grain elevator in Europe, ofcourse as a museum ship.

The ship consists of a pontoon with a steel construction, in which there are two steam-driven vacuum pumps at the top, a large round vessel (the receptacle), in which a negative pressure is generated by the pumps, and a scale below. Grain and derivatives, tapioca, cassava, soybean and coconut meal and similar light materials were sucked up from seagoing vessels by means of adjustable suction pipes and transferred to coasters and barges after weighing.
