Thanks for your welcome comments and appreciations!

High temperatures and the cool water of the Mediterranean Sea, result in dense early morning fog. The foggy effect was enhanced by dust arising from the urbanization of a portion of the land. The effect was fairly short lived, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.

The heart-faced shaped owl doing what nocturnal owls do best during the day... sleep and more sleep.

The main factor limiting the Barn Owl is the loss of habitat and of prey species, mainly to urbanization. Barn Owls are threatened here and the Western Barn Owl population, is protected under the federal Species at Risk Act (SARA) and the BC Wildlife Act.

Singapore Botanic Gardens are an oasis of natural beauty and tranquility in a highly urbanized city. The Gardens were established in 1859, and retain the same layout and historical buildings until today.

The Gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and are a global center for plant research, development, and conservation. This was a key institution involved with the introduction of rubber trees in South East Asia, which became a major cash crop for the region.

The greening of Singapore is a direct result of the Gardens' efforts, which devoted their expertise and resources to transform Singapore into the Garden City that it has now become.

Cap-aux-Meules Island has three villages (Fatima, Cap-aux-Meules and L'Étang-du-Nord), it is more "urbanized" than the other islands and is the service and administrative centre for the archipelago. The name, Cap-aux-Meules (Grindstone Cape), comes from the presence of grindstone in the hill overlooking the port.

Hiking in Cap-Aux-Meules for a day along the coastline trail, the wind along beaches and capes and leads to an observation deck overlooking the port of Cap-aux-Meules. I was almost carried away by the gentle sea breeze in this magnificent open-air playground! The wind is omnipresent in the Magdalen Islands. Strong sea breezes have always been a part of the lives of their inhabitants. The sea breeze makes the archipelago the ideal place to enjoy wind sports and activities, like acrobatic kite flying and kitesurfing...

Fatima Exposed to northerly winds, the Fatima coastline is lined with spectacularly steep, jagged cliffs. Unfortunately, year after year, the coast is retreating as a result of erosion.

The residents of different areas of Chittagong are very familiar with the problem of water logging during rainy season. A moderate to heavy rainfall is enough to inundate main roads, lanes and by-lanes of both old and new parts of the city.

The Palace of Raio is a Baroque residence in the urbanized area of the municipality of Braga. It is a beautiful example of the late Baroque, early Rococo style of decoration by Portuguese architect André Soares, notable for his influence in the northern Portuguese Baroque movement.

In urbanized Singapore, it can be difficult to find nature landscapes that can blend in well with the urban jungle. However, there are places like the Jurong Lake Gardens where man made and nature can co-exist in harmony.

This straight Pano piece was shot into a very bright late afternoon sun which really glared out the image. I almost abandoned it because it was so washed out in white glare. Instead I drastically dropped the highlights and brightness, bumped up the colour and actually had to lighten up the shadows on the right. A slight shift in the "cast" gives the image a yellowish wash. These are standard photographic adjustments.

But would we consider this manipulated or not ? I think it sits on the cusp.

Carrying on my major theme of Pano-Sabotage as visual metaphor for transformation. Said metamorphosis can always be seen in two ways - as DE-structive and RE-Constructive. This is entirely up to how each of us views transformation.

The Dutch Open Air Museum near Arnhem came about thanks to the historian F. A. Hoefer, who in April 1912 suggested the plan to build an open air museum, following similar museums he had visited in Scandinavia. Due to industrialization and urbanization, regional differences disappeared and traditions and crafts threatened to be lost. By moving historically important buildings to a museum site, where knowledgeable people show visitors how people used to live and work, the past can be kept alive. The "Vereniging voor Volkskunde Het Nederlands Openluchtmuseum" was founded that same month, and it opened its doors on July 13, 1918.

Urbanization is accelerating without respite

View of the Valley of La Barranca and the Bola del Mundo, with its characteristic antennas, from the dam of the Navacerrada reservoir.

In the first place, some urbanizations of chalets in the town of Navacerrada.

The noon light was strong, but it was the time we were passing by.

La Bola del Mundo is one of the most iconic mountains in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, with an altitude of 7408 feet (2258 m) above sea level. Here you see its south face, which has suffered a lot from the rise in temperatures, and in which a lot of snow has already melted.

Hopefully it will snow again soon and the mountains will wear white again. It seems that this next weekend it could be like that.

The distance in a straight line from where the photo is taken and La Bola del Mundo is 4,87 miles (8 km).

Good Wednesday to everybody and good health!

“Many people still see urbanization as a destructive force—but urban living can lead to more efficient use of resources and smaller carbon footprints.”

- PASCAL MITTERMAIER

Having a very pleasant walk along La Mata del Rosal, a nice urbanization in Navacerrada, we took this picture from one of its inclined and quiet residential streets.

In this view you can see the village nestled between the trees, beyond you can see the old Sanatory of La Barranca and the Valley of La Barranca under La Bola del Mundo and La Maliciosa, two of the most important mountains in Sierra de Guadarrama National Park.

We took this picture at dusk, enjoying the relaxation and silence that prevailed at that time there.

Best viewed large.

Wishing you a nice and lovely Tuesday!

Graffiti in Almada

Almada (Portuguese pronunciation: [ɐɫˈmaðɐ]) is a city and a municipality in Portugal, located on the southern margin of theTagus River. The population in 2011 was 174,030, in an area of 70.21 km². The urbanized center had a population of 101,500 in 2001

Although small, Almada is densely populated. It is bounded to the east by Seixal, to the south by Sesimbra, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean and to the north by the Tagus River. At Cacilhas, its main port, ferry boats transport visitors and local residents across to Lisbon daily, while the 25 de Abril Bridge, which spans the Tagus, is traversed by rail, commercial and personal vehicles daily. Almada is considered a transportation hub and a fast-growing suburb; its coast has several sandy beaches and panoramic vistas.

Located in the district of Setúbal, the municipality includes two cities, Almada and Costa da Caparica, and is divided into five civil parishes:

Almada, Cova da Piedade, Pragal e Cacilhas

Caparica e Trafaria

Charneca de Caparica e Sobreda

Costa da Caparica

The northern mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) is a mockingbird commonly found in North America, of the family Mimidae. The species is also found in some parts of the Caribbean, as well as on the Hawaiian Islands. It is typically a permanent resident across much of its range, but northern mockingbirds may move farther south during inclement weather or prior to the onset of winter. The northern mockingbird has gray to brown upper feathers and a paler belly. Its tail and wings have white patches which are visible in flight.[2]

The species is known for its ability to mimic bird calls and other types of sound, including artificial and electronic noises. Studies have shown its ability to identify individual humans and treat them differently based on learned threat assessments.[3] It is an omnivore and consumes fruit, invertebrates, and small vertebrates. It is often found in open areas, open woodlands and forest edges, and is quite common in urbanized areas. The species breeds from southeastern Canada throughout the United States to the Greater Antilles. It is listed as a species of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The Old City of Kotor is a well preserved urbanization typical of the middle Ages, built between the 12th and 14th century. Medieval architecture and numerous monuments of cultural heritage have made Kotor land on the UNESCO’s World Natural and Historical Heritage Site list.

Through the entire city the buildings are intersected by narrow streets and squares. Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (Sveti Tripun) is at the center of one of these squares, and it’s a monument of Roman culture and one of the most recognizable symbols of the city.

In recent years, rhinos have been threatened by poaching, urbanization and pollution, which have left certain rhino species on the brink of extinction while leaving other species severely endangered.

Rhino horns are in great demand in many southeast Asian countries like Vietnam. The Chinese use it as an aphrodisiac and make traditional medicines with it. More than ever, rhinos need care and conservation now. Organisations and non-profit groups across the world are engaging in anti-poaching measures.

The rhinoceros is our planet’s armoured giant. There are five species of rhino – white and black rhinos in Africa, and the greater one-horned, Javan and Sumatran rhino species in Asia.

The white rhinoceros or square-lipped rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) is the largest extant species of rhinoceros was busy grazing at sunset. Photographed during a photography safari on a late evening game drive in the open savannah plains of Africa.
