First image of what is intended to be a long term project #10milesfromhome

I live in Abingdon so not blessed with the beauty of the National Parks and as a lot of people have done I have been doing a lot of local walking the last weeks and started to realise you dont rally apprecaite whats on your doorstep.

So the #10milefromhome project was born, to make it simple I drew a 10 mile radius circle on a OS map and anything within that circle qualifies to be in the project.

This one is from Abingdon Weir looking upstream on the River Thames just after sunrise.

The steep land on the left is very unstable and is being eroded with landslides occasionally. At the head of the valley is a fairly substantial house and it is the highest occupied house on the Isle of Man. When I was a child it was the retreat of a Doctor, there was no electricity etc. It is still technically off the grid as it has its own wind turbines and perhaps generators. It has been substantially altered and "improved" since the doctor had it.

Standing in the drive way of my new house last night I enjoyed this view to the North up the stream. The little old thatched-roof house in the right foreground was bought by a famous artist from Tokyo I'm told! I don't know if he's living there now or not but someone is.

I will lose my internet connection tomorrow, March 31. I still don't know when my new house will be hooked up but I'm working on it. Don't forget me too quickly!

Early this morning Scott, Gord and I ventured over to Gatineau Park to check out a couple trails, however we completely forgot that the parkway was closed on Sunday for cyclists so we didn't get to visit as much as I would have liked.

But worry not; it was not a wasted trip as Gord showed us this pretty place that we probably wouldn't have found on our own.

We were there as the sun was coming up and with the exception of someone sleeping in their van in the parking lot, we had the place to ourselves. Can't complain about that!

A great place; and a fairly easy trail to walk! Bonus!

Hope everyone has had a good day.

At the risk of overkill, feel I ought to complete the 1,2,3 set..

When entering Alvoco da Serra, we come across a bridge which offers some nice views, both up and downstream. This upstream one is a favourite of mine.

Taken from an aquaduct disguised as a bridge @ Bolton Abbey, NYorks, UK. This river can rage through after heavy rains, but at present it is Hoagy Carmichael's 'lazy river' and a beautiful, peaceful spot for our afternoon walk today :-)

To all who view and/or comment on my pix, each is a help and a pleasure in equal measure. Thank you.

Tiny creek Wilisch in the beautiful Ore Mountains. I really love the atmosphere there. A mixture between wilderness, mining tradition and an old steam track. I do not know why, but I belive the Uranium did something strengh with my cameras sensor ... .

Thanks for coming and enjoy your evening!
