BLOG POSTS returning in 2 weeks!

So when I said I was on the mend (like weeks ago) I apparently had no idea what I was talking about. It's alright though, I'm *actually* getting better this time around, and the timing is good since there's family visiting, which helps in taking care of things. By the time the next few weeks have passed I should be tossing posts up again with regularity.

I have the next few weeks off from blogging still, but if we're honest, I will probably end up doing a picture or two anyway at some point just because there's so much beautiful stuff coming out or that I've recently missed. We'll see.

In the meantime, here's a portrait I promised a friend, that took far too long for me to get to since I fell ill for a while there. I wish it was better too, but being sick on my back for two months or so means I was also two months without any practice, so I'm just not up to snuff again yet. She seems to like it though, and I don't mind the end result, so here it is.

Lilymunsters as Liliana Celeésonel, star elf and the younger (adopted) sister of my own moon elf, Senia. I've dubbed her the Ela'nadrii of the Stars. It's a nonsensical word that's meant to sound suitably nonsensically elvish and lovely at the same time. I dig it. lol <3

There's a certain satisfaction in a little bit of pain

I can see you understand

Tell that you're the same

If you're afraid we'll rise above

I only hurt the ones I love

Give it up do as I say

Give it up and let me have my way..

Only the one that hurts you

Can make you feel better

Only the one that inflicts the pain

Can take it away

5am start this morning from home and set off from Ogwen Cottage at 06:45. Forecast was for an inversion with 90% chance of cloud free summits. The inversion lasted all morning and I had the best day out I've had for some time. 3 degrees in the valleys and t-shirt weather on the tops.

Didn't make it up in time for sunrise but ended up doing Y Garn, Foel Goch and Mynydd Perfedd and a difficult descent via what I now know is called The Mushroom Garden.

No world cup matches to watch this evening so I ended up doing some high speed photography playing with water drops. This is simply one water drop crashing over the top of another drop that was rebounding,

1st trip to the coast this year... I was going to do a hike but weather was a bit rough so ended up doing some photography and eating fish and chips!

Took a mate for a three-beach walk today: Soldiers Beach, Gravelly Beach and Lighthouse Beach.

Before we left he asked if we needed hiking shoes. I said, “Nah, thongs are fine — it’s all beach.”

Famous last words. Turned out there was an extremely high tide, so we ended up doing a fair bit of rock scrambling between headlands to get to the next beach. Let’s just say wet thongs aren’t ideal footwear for slippery sandstone.

My mate may have come home with a few grazes .... and a lot less faith in my definition of a “leisurely two-hour beach walk.” 😅

That aside, it was a wonderful spring day on the coast — sunshine, sea spray, and plenty of laughs finished off with a hamburger with the works and a banana smoothie looking out for whales. Wouldn’t have it any other way. 🌊

For the non-aussies, a burger with the works here includes the regular beef patty, grilled onions, cheese, lettuce, beetroot & tomato slices along with a fried egg, bacon, and pineapple. On a soft bun with BBQ sauce of course. Delicious and so big you can't get your mouth around it. But you have to, and quickly before the flies and seagulls attack ;)

Have a great Friday everyone!

Thanks for any visits and comments, always appreciated.

IORY 1 year ago looked completely different than it does now, the yellow SD60s took over quite quickly and it's definitely reduced my reasons to photograph the railroad, but sometimes you just end up doing it anyways out of boredom.

This is an old Pixeldolls top, "Atlantic Jacket - Parchment." I dunno how I ended up with this on while going thru my inventory but then this song came on "Medwyn Goodall - The Sorcerer's Daughter" & one thing lead to another & I ended up doing a piccie & put it on as my new profile pic. But I really like the pic. I actually do wear new stuff but somehow this is the what I came up with. This is why I would definitely not be a good blogger lol. I have some new stuff that I'm going to try to put on here even with my crusty computer. :)

Catch the song on Youtube @ www.youtube.com/watch?v=voJZBLjebLs . Kind of a girly song, just to warn you.

Isle of May...find these difficult to photograph well and always end up doing a close up.

Morning is amazing in Arches ... as well as sunset. If you get the chance to visit this part of Utah ... do not do it in the middle of the day only like so many end up doing. It is amazing to see under the low angle sunlight.

Composed this one to catch the North Window but also the pretty life there growing out of the red rock soil.

Also did not clone out the people standing in the arch ... left them in this version to show the scale of the arch. You can see them when viewed large :)

This staircase, designed by Guiseppe Momo in 1932, is an architectural highlight in the Vatican. Because of the two intertwined spiral ramps, visitors going up do not encounter those coming down. The archetype is the Bramante Staircase, which is also located in the museum complex. However, this staircase can be visited only as part of a special tour. This is a view from below.

Bit of a throwback to an Isle of Pines, New Caledonia day trip when on a cruise. Getting myself amped for a cruise with a bunch of friends later this year, first one post-covid.

Are you a cruise person? I didn't think I would enjoy cruising, thought it would stifle my adventurous side and I would be bored, but I acquiesced. Loved it! Ended up doing 8 or so in a 10-year time span. Never a wasted moment, and kinda relaxing. I think the trick is to go with good friends, maximise the onshore opportunities, get involved with the onboard activities, and make good use of the unlimited drinks package on sea days ;)

A cruise we were on we passed a very small, remote deserted island, and I spotted a bearded man with an eyepatch running around and waving his arms wildly. I asked the captain “who is that man over there?” The captain replied, “I have no idea, but he goes crazy every year when we pass him" 😉

Which reminds me, do you know what has 8 legs, 8 arms, and 8 eyes?

Hope everyone has a great weekend !

Do you feel it? Close your eyes and stop your mind. Focus on your inner strength. Breathe deeply and absorb the energy of your surroundings. Place your hands, palms up. Do you feel the vibrations? This is your inner strength. In this, small sparks of blue light begin to form in his palms, which grow larger and larger...

Taken for today's Looking Close... on Friday! theme of pushpins. I like this image, but the pushpins are actually pewter, so I ended up doing a mono version, too. I wasn't sure which one to post to the group but finally, chose the b/w, which if my next post. HLCoF

I don't usually post two photos on the same day, and especially not two of the same object, but I really couldn't decide between these two.

Was up doing some hiking in The Cuyamamas today. The morning was quit chilly and the clouds were blowing in waves that hugged the ground. Heres a shot from a meadow as another cloud blows in.

The rain finally stopped and the sky had perfect "Simpson's clouds" - so I slid that sky and got this creation!

I hope this gives you a smile on Saturday anyways.

For the Challenge

I had just about given up doing a photo for the challenge this week. I had gone to beach in hopes of some good action shots but was not able to isolate any parts of Tug. I had tried some set up shots at home with him drinking out of a glass but those didn't come out too hot. So this morning as I was walking through the study to get my camera and head out back for some photos, it hit me. I had just walked across these shadow lines in the floor...why not have Tug walk through them and try to capture his foot in motion. This is what I came up with. No cropping was done but I did desaturate the color a little and sharpened it a bit.

First of a series of 8 in a set that takes exclusively Pano-Sabotage imagery into extreme mirroring.

The visual complexity of the foliage and branches of the mostly natural elements, along with the complex mirror shapes makes for a very ornate statements in this series. At this time of year I seem to often end up doing things that are purely or largely abstract. I also wanted to take, what I call, "X-Stream Mirroring" as far as I could go ( for now ). The results made my think of the complex brocades that frame Tibetan Buddhist Thangka paintings. Hence the "Brocade" name.

It's always been my goal to take Pano-Sabotage as far into art making as I can. I love visually complex work and thought I'd "pull out the stops" for this series. Following these 8 it's likely that I'll go in completely the opposite direction, exploring Pano-Sabotage in extremely simple forms.

Was nice to stumble upon you last night, hope you like what I ended up doing :)

Taken at Furillen.

I like to think this is how the bridge looked in 1936 which was when it was built. I knew as I took this shot ten days ago that I would end up doing a vintage version of it. Imagine this shot without the buildings, telephone poles and the streetlight and I do believe that is exactly how it would have looked.

IAIS 152 & a Gevo leading their train from the TZPR in Peoria in the setting sun. This was my first of three chases I’d end up doing of the SD38s before they go put back into storage.

Still lifes are a challenge for me. First starting with your subject you then built up. Do you use a white or black background or something else? Composition is next to find a pleasing and interesting display. What kind of natural lighting, front, side or rear? And how many fill cards to fill in the shadows. And finally manually select the aperture, ISO and shutter speed with a prime lens which requires you to move the camera on the tripod rather than a zoom lens. And then finally hope you got lucky. Takes one back to the old Kodachrome days.

For the whole winter I have been waiting for a snowday Semmering trip. Finally last Saturday the conditions seemed to be right and I had the time. Immediately things went wrong after somehow losing or unlikely but getting my gloves stolen on the train. Thankfully I had one spare glove in the bag but with -5 C or so temps it was not a good time. Really in general I was not prepared for those temps and had to keep moving to stay warm less I ended up as the 21st century version of Oetzi the Iceman (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%96tzi ). I ended up doing alot of walking for only a few photos but atleast got a few I am happy with. Here the reliable morning loaded vehicle train creeps up hill towards Semmering at Wolfsbergkogel with the normal 1144-Taurus combo

I had intended to iron a heap of clothes today and do some house cleaning. Guess what I ended up doing instead...

I went to this location early in the summer and the light was very contrasty and I was not really happy with any of the shots I got. Although I was trying to capture some Autumn colour I ended up doing this as a black and white, lots of dodging and burning! Will probably do a colour version as well.

Eva gets a little scruffy. We do shave her coat down twice a year, but doing so at this time of year would be cruel given our winter temperatures in Saskatchewan.

I was at a loss of what to do for her photo this week and was trying reflection shots on the hardwood. I loved the natural light so I got her to stand up do a paw shot. When I saw her scruff highlighted against the dark background I knew that I had my concept. So I told her to stay and she did so until I got the shot. When I told her that we were done, she just ran immediately into the kitchen and stared at the cookie tin. She really is a pro model.

Very early rise of 3am this morning, with the intention of traveling up to St Marys Lighthouse in Whitley Bay.

Sadly we got diverted by the nice kind men and their cones on the A19.

Realising we wouldn't make sunrise we ended up doing a rather long round tour of Sunderland before we eventually realised were we where.

I took the decision to capture Souter Lighthouse and as you can see it gave me the opportunity to capture some nice light with the impending sunrise.

I would like to take the opportunity to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas. I am GRATEFUL to all of you for your constant uplifting support and huge encouragement that you have given me. I so much appreciate you all.

As you all probably have noticed, I haven't been very active here on Flickr the past year and even less the past 6 months, and I haven't shared many Pictures in 2024.

My focus has been more or less in my RL. I have take up doing pictures in RL when ever I am out hiking or just walking.

Some of those pictures I have even shared with you here on Flickr, I have wanted to give you all some glimpse of my RL.

It has been a very hard year for me in RL, but also a very exciting and fulfilling year for me personally, in so many ways, but please, no worries, everything is alright with me, and things are looking brighter, and definitely going the way I want it to.

I can't wait to start the new year and I hope that I will find back to the inspiration of doing SL pictures as well as be more active on Flickr and hopefully I will be sharing more SL pictures in the new year.

I will most probably reopen all of my Flickr groups in the beginning of January 2025 as well, I am looking forward to that.

Thank you so much to each and every one of you for all your positive feedback on my work trough out the years and this past year as well. I am grateful.

Merry Christmas, and I wish you all a very happy New Year.

May 2025 be a wonderful year.

💖Especially with everything going on in the world these days, please take good care of your self as well as one another, we know nothing about what others are going trough, so therefor always be kind as well as thoughtful towards others. 💖

💖 Huge, huge hugs, light, peace and love to you all 💖.

Best regards

Не погасить огонь ветрам.

Не потушить его дождем,

Горит и вечером и днем!

С надеждой светит на морях.

Собой притягивает взор,

Природой созданный узор.

От Сальвии исходит свет,

Не меркнет в осень алый цвет.

The flame of the fire leaped up,

Do not extinguish the fire to the winds.

Don't put it out with rain,

It burns both in the evening and in the afternoon!

A flower like a lighthouse at dusk:

It shines with hope on the seas.

It attracts the eye with itself,

A pattern created by nature.

Light comes from Salvia,

The scarlet color does not fade in autumn.

It shines like a ray in the darkness,

A fairy tale in the moonlight...

He seems a kind sort... always shows up with his little "missus".... sits close to her, flies down to the water basin with her, sings to her and in general is very attentive. I never see her singing, but I do notice his beak open where there are songs.... so now I must go look it up... do the females sing as well? Don't know yet.

So colourful in contrast to the sort of drab, soft greys of his little lady....as with most birds... the guys get all the nice clothes.

There are quite a few flitting in and out this year compared to the one or two I've see in years past... there are usually a couple around..but, this time... several ... and, very visible as you can see. Can't miss 'em.

Male House Finch... we call them Mr. Chirpy because of their singing if you didn't see my explanation on the previous photo.

A late running OCS thwarted my attempts at a #BDPApproved shot at Mapleton, so I moved 7 miles westward to the quiet back country city of Huntingdon to get the train passing by the tower.

I wasn't overly thrilled with the results I ended up with focus wise since the camera & lens turns out weren't quite in sync with each other.. Resulting in the tower and background to be a bit sharper than the train in the foreground.

I ended up doing some research and testing to find my lenses and camera are in need of calibration. My images straight out of the camera are coming out a lot less sharper due to this problem too. So, to kill 2 birds with one stone everything is off to Canon sometime this week for cleaning and re-calibration.

I just hope work picks back up or a new job comes my way soon, so when time permits I can make a few more trips out to the Middle Division for pictures. Another crack at the OCS would nice too, but I can't complain TOO much about this result.

After all, as the saying goes, "It's better than nothing!"

P.S. - For those wondering about the PTC progress on the PITL, my suggestion to you is shoot those signals as much as you can, while you can, NOW.

This little one was with the herd I took on Sunday. You can see just how windy it was from his standy up mane

I succumbed to a moment of nostalgic weakness and perused my archives. Given my complete lack of organizational know-how, matched only by my supreme hoarding skills (this, by the way, is a recipe for disaster), I was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem languishing there. I was even more impressed by the fact that, apparently, I had already done most of the processing on this. I began to ponder what made me abandon those efforts in favour of whatever else I ended up doing. Was it the Instant Pot and my quest for the perfect Hungarian Goulash recipe? Who knows and who really cares. (It did end up tasting delicious, however).

So, I am sharing with you now the female Downy as she does her best Nuthatch impression. Actually, she needs to rotate some more, but not bad for a first try. Just as a point of interest, I am proud to report that no canoe was involved here to move myself into position to obtain the best possible perspective and light on the iris. The reason I mention a canoe is that I have found that some of the best iris shots I have ever seen were taken from the vantage point of a canoe (Jerome). So I did some research and I found that a canoe can indeed be quite instrumental in navigating to the position required for a perfect iris shot. As my mind drifts off to ponder the possibilities of this, I quickly realize that my circumstances up here differ somewhat drastically from Jerome’s . For one thing, there is no bayou in this area and I do appreciate that a canoe is best used on water. Yes, we do have some lakes that might do the job but I don’t think they would really function as adequate stand-ins for the bayou. I would also have to acquire a trailer and permit to transport the canoe but then I’d need some practice backing up with the trailer … the more I contemplate this, the more I discover the difficulties with this plan. Of course, I could just plant the canoe in the yard and use it as a stationary structure to take my shots from. But the sun does travel during the day which would require me to push/pull/drag the canoe to the most advantageous spot, given the time of day. How likely am I to do that? Right, … not! I could invest in multiple canoes and position them strategically in the yard to solve the placement variation quandary. But wait, wait … wait! I realized quickly when I knew I should I already have something that works quite nicely for me without having to invest in a pelican box. Yes, you got it … The Adirondack. Much more easily positioned in my location of choice – I actually have two, which simplifies matters even further. True, it’s not as exotic as a canoe but really we are after results here and not the actual journey. And another benefit is that it’s much easier to sip a Krombacher in the Adirondack and maintain my balance and a semblance of decorum, especially if it’s more than one during the course of the day. And … I don’t have to leave the premises …
