i guess it depends on your perspective. i guess the key is isolation - at-least in this case! when you blur everything around you and look at just what is in front of you, you can make anything beautiful...
Another 'almost didn't go' sunset shoots. A friend invited me out to shoot but I was hesitant to go because of the storm clouds, I didn't wanna shoot in the rain to be honest. I almost turned around when I noticed the massive dark cloud looming above me. I could swear there was some mammatus action going on too!
When I arrived which was about 20 minutes before sunset, I quickly ran to a location I had been thinking about shooting. I followed the Jose Rizal dog park trail down and around to the Mt.Baker bike trail. I walked up and down looking for a good view and settled after slashing my way through some bushes!
I shot until the sun was down behind the mountains. All of a sudden the clouds started to light up! I quickly grabbed my gear and ran to the bottom of the dog park stairs close to the fence to set up for this shot. I'm glad I moved because I always like coming home with more than one good shot! After a couple good exposures from here to get the car trails, I moved up to the bridge to see if I knew any of the 10 photographers there!
I ran into my friend Aswin in the bridge, he was too late due to dinner altercations. But that didn't stop him from watching and also giving me a crazy awesome photography tip for sun flares!! Two photos, thumb over sun in one photo, blend out unwated flaring with second exposure. Genius!

Green Bay resort area, Wanli Township 萬里鄉 (翡翠灣). Once a cute little enclave, it sits rotted from decades of neglect, with some buildings long gone, only the platform remaining. It must had been something to see in its heyday. Oddly enough, there are a handful of these eccentric masterpieces still being occupied. One wonders, though, how long that will last.
This is Rocky, I found him shivering from fear in a corner in a rescue centre. He had been left for being agressive, he was 10 months old... Now ten years later I can tell you that the only agressive part of him is when he tries to lick you to death :)
I foster unwated, ill and recovering dogs and I hate that there is a need for people like me. It breaks my heart to see the statei in which the dogs arrive to my house
If you are considering getting a pet first make sure you can and have the time to look after one and if you do please consider adopting an abandoned one. Please
The RSPCA do amazing things - they save animals every day from a meaningless life, from a painful life.
One of their key campaigns is the Five Freedoms.
Freedom from hunger and thirst
# by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.
Freedom from discomfort
# by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
Freedom from pain, injury or disease
# by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
Freedom to express normal behaviour
# by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.
Freedom from fear and distress
# by ensuring conditions and care which avoid mental suffering.
So, for the pets who were given as Christmas gifts and are not wanted a month on; for the garden birds who've suffered in the cold weather; for the battery hens and mutilated seals; for intensively farmed puppies and kittens beaten and left for dead; for the 150-200 animals still used in circuses; for all of these we raise awareness of the vital work carried out by the RSPCA.

Bandarbans, Bangladesh, 2008.
Why...this life is so small?
God gifts us and gives so little time to comprehend its beauty.
Why is He so sarcastic?
He lures us to unfathomable sea of wonder, and takes it away just when we start to feel its depth......
God, a mixture of hatred and love...that's what I have for you.

Unwanted Paths.
"if you are going through hell, KEEP GOING." -Winston Churchill
I have found myself not wanting to cross this path, knowing it is best to move on and just run across it. I keep looking back at all the great moments, all the awesome memories and also all the tears and this hold me back!
I don't see how it is fair to just toss all those memories as if nothing even meant anything. I keep telling myself that it will get better, even though I can't see the light to walk onto another path yet, I KNOW that I will find guidance to get through it.
This passage helps me through and I hope it helps you if you are also crossing and Unwanted path. "When you go through deep waters, I will be with you." Isaiah 43:2
i enjoyed this shoot.

x. liam.
would they please you while sitting next to blooming tulips or orchids or roses..? i doubt, although when everything else becomes blurred, anything can be beautiful...
isn't it high time we take this perspective on our world. everything in it and everyone who lives in it are beautiful. let us not leave anything or anyone behind. let us take everyone for who they are rather than who we want them to be...

Continuing Book Week! This book was destined for the recycling bin... I'm all for rehoming books but when it's a falling apart copy of a book no one wants, it's better off being used for photographic purposes! I suggest you do this with any unwated copies of The Da Vinci Code, the poor charity shops don't need any more!
1) I go by the name of Becca...I only like it when people from mediteranean countries say my full name cos it sounds more beautiful with a rolling of the tongue...I want to change the way my name's spelled to Rebekah, it's stunning that way.
2) I identify ethnically as half Dominican and half Scottish, I don't know how I feel about the term 'woman of colour', I don't really understand it...at work a man siad he loves my 'half cast complexion', it was so difficult to talk about why I thought that was unacceptable, he siad he wasn't racist and that he thought that a lot of problems to do with how we term each other come from being 'too politically correct', I didn't know what to say and I couldn't be bothered in the end.
3) I think a lot of my identity that I am awre of now and even bits that I'm not aware yet are definately centred around the fact that my mum's from Dominica and my dad is probably from Scotland, I feel really influenced, special and inspired by my roots and by myself, I mean I look at how my mum plus my unknown father equals me and I feel beautiful, I also feel very lost and lonely and confused, the fact that my father is unknown not only means that I don't know half of my heritage, but it also means that I don't know or at least I feel I don't know half of myself...and I wonder a lot how much who I am is influenced by my father...is he in my personality as well as in my DNA and if so how much of who he is is influenced by his 'whiteness' and much of me is influenced by his 'whiteness'? And I was brought up in Englqnd...so how does that influence who I am?...So yes I think about this all the time...
4) I was cycling through Moulsecoombe and some children commented on my hair, they said ' we like your hair', I said 'I like yours too', they started shouting at that point and repeating that they 'liked my hair', so I became something to be mocked, not appreciated cos I was different, and loads of people in cars or on the street when I'm riding my bike say I look like either Macy Gray or like Corrinne Bailey Rae, it's like 'who can I think of that's black and got an afro, I'll put you in the same box, I'll categorise you, I'll put you into something that is paletable to me, I'll put you into something that makes who you are simple and esy to swallow otherwise it might mean stepping outside of their comfort zones to really see me as an individual with a whole bunch of diferent experiences in my life, I mean can you imagin if I said to every blonde man 'oh you look like Justin Timberlake'...how ignorant and how racist...I presume the're identity is the same as JTs, I don't know, I hate being put in these boxes'.
5) At work today's a prime example, I wore a white vest top and only the men felt the need to make fucking annoying comments that I didn't get till another lady of colour spoke to me about it, she said that what this middle aged white man meant when he siad 'you're very hard not to notice today' was because he could see my nipples, another white 20 year old man kept looking at my breasts and smiling at me in a really grotesque way, I felt so self conscious I couldn't even walk properly, and I chose not to wear a bra simply cos its more comfy and the white top I was wearing was the same 1 I'd been wearing for the past 2 days...I didn't want this unwated attention. And I've noticed that only white men comment when I wear my hair out, one man who's in his 70s always says 4I find it hard to keep up with your hair sometimes, you're always changing it' and I really want to say 'well don't look at it then, you don't have to keep up with it, it's like he's saying my hair and the way I choose to wear it is a burden to him cos he doesn't get it...there are other people with different hair styles too, I don't understand why I'm the only 1 to be commented about...I'm so easily noticed...why?
6) I feel like this is the term that probably best describes me, but I don't like it very much, what colour do you mean? I feel more than just someone of colour...I'm several things...
7) I think there's so much going on oppressing us and I don't even know what all of it is..I don't feel able to answer this question very well...
8) What classifies a woman of colour? Spanish women too? Portuguese women too? I don't know...is anyone with a little bit of a tanned complexion a woman of colour? I don't feel like I understand it very well and I don't know if I can identify fully with the term 'woan of colour'...
I feel very confused now...and quite upset particularly as I'm more awre that I'm not valued in this society as an equal, I'm not treated equal, I'm not just allowed to be, people always feel the need to comment so self righteously and I feel more pissed off that I'm an easy tarhet cos I'm a woman so therefore weaker and have some black in me so I'm the curious person...I want to be left alone, invisible like every other white man at work...its a piss take.
I spent a day exploring part of the unique Tinto river situated in South Western Spain, in the province of Huelva, Andalucia. Due to a very rainy winter and spring the river had very high water levels so I couldn't access most spots I wanted to explore. This area has been mined for over 3000 years and the Tinto river carries abundant heavy metals, such as iron, copper, cadmium, etc. The ph of the water is something like 2,2 which is very high and makes it very acidic. Apparently NASA has been using this area as a test ground for the robots and equipment to be used in Mars and they have carried out comparative studies about possible live forms on both environments, so it is quite a unique place. The colours you see in this image and in the ones to follow are real, there's no saturation added, the only filter I used was a polarizer to avoid unwated reflections.

PIMP MY PASSPORT, 2008
Passport covers to prevent unwated RFID reading
Pimp My Passport is a project to spread knowledge about RFID (Radio frequency identification) chips. The project examines DIY and hacking prospects as well as control and privacy issues of the RFID passports currently being rolled out throughout the European Union. The passport RFID chips have been hacked already. For example, Elvis Presley’s passport was read by Amsterdam airport machines. Pimp My Passport also plays around with the notion of nationality and its symbols - seeking new ways to signal identity by "pimping" personal travel documents. Although dealing with heavy subject matter like electronic privacy, big brother and nationality, Pimp My Passport is a playful, hands-on project that anyone can take part of in a form of passport cover making workshop.
Pimp My Passport is a project by Mari Keski-Korsu and Mika Meskanen. The passport covers presented here are made by Mari Keski-Korsu and they use recycled materials. They were exhibited in Mari's Illusion of Safety exhibition in Lasipalatsi, Helsinki. The first cover prototype was made out of microwave oven’s door, but it turned out to be unhandy. Lighter materials like coffee packages and folios from chocolate wrappings are easier to carry around.

My favorite spot close to my home. My waterfall. There are actually three cascading waterfalls and this is the last one before the water flows down stream. There is so much tranquility here. So much beauty to see and take in...even the noise of crashing water..flowing rivers..gentle breezes..rustling leaves..swaying grasses...all create such synchronized perfection of peace. The brilliant colors reflected throughout each hour of the day make this spot appear new and unseen before...but my favorite time of day is right before dusk...the blue skies giving way to muted shades of purple..the golden honey of the setting sun reflecting perfectly on the top of the water..surrounded by the ever changing leaves of Fall..it is but one slice of my kind of Heaven..so come and sit with me...
I say Abyss "like", because I messed up my sparge water calculation and ended diluting the batch that was supposed to be 5 gallons of 11% abv beer to 8 gallons of 9%. I compensated by dosing a 3 gallon portion with sugar to bring it up to between 12-14%. I will probably blend them back together at bottling to average them out. So it may have the alcohol of abyss, but will not be as visicous.
The 3 gallon portion picked up speed after racking to the secondary and I had to put a blow off tube in.
A few minutes ago I added the dry hop bag full of bourbon and pinot noir soaked oak chips to the 5 gallon carboy. After it reaches a decent flavor I will added the vanilla beans, then the cherry bark.
I had an incident with this batch earlier in the week. The 5 gallon portion overpressurized and blew the lid off the bucket. I had to scrub yeast, hops and beer off the floor, walls and ceiling. Luckily it did not stain. I am hoping that it did not get contaminated in that time. It was open for a couple of hours in a room with the door and A/C vents closed, there would have been few particles in the air. Not to mention that the lid only cracked open half way and it was still pumping out CO2 rapidly. I think the chance of a unwated particle falling in was fairly slim, so I decided to not scrap it out yet. Nobody was home at the time, but I made it quite a ruckus when it exploded. The aftermath was impressive.
Big Sur, California
This is Joseph R. Rogers. I had the pleasure of meeting him on the last leg of my trip in central California. How did come to meet Joseph? Joseph was on the verge of committing suicide. As I was coming back from taking pictures in the hills I greeted him as I passed, but got no response back other then a somber look. It felt awkward and I moved on down the road. Not far down from the road, a man approached me and told me it looked like Joseph wanted to commit suicide. Then things clicked as to why he looked grim as he passed me. I rushed back towards the spot to find him on the edge of a cliff looking down into the ocean. I knew then I had to react quickly and in such a way that would not trigger unwated actions. I didn't want to mention anything about his issues as I thought it would trigger emotions, so I asked him what he liked to do. He told me he loved to play guitar but being homeless and poor, he wasn't able to afford, let alone play a guitar for the longest time. I told him I brought my guitar and asked him to play for me, but said he had to over near my car. He sure knew how to play and I could see his emotions and troubles poor into his fingers and beauty come out his voice. It was so heart warming to see how much playing the guitar relieved his soul, so I told him to keep it. He refused at first, but I knew my guitar would benefit him so much more than could ever happen for me, so I stayed adamant and he accepted it. A few weeks later Joseph sent me a letter thanking me but left no return address. Where ever he is, I hope he is better now. This was the day I met Joseph R. Rogers of Peoria, Illinois.

I wouldn't have believed this place if I hadn't seen it.
This monastery is completely run by cats. Many many many MANY cats.
There must have been nearly 100 cats around.
I think people now bring unwated cats here.
Some of them were very skinny with sore looking eyes. I wish I could have spent more time here.
