I've posted photos of the oats harvest here in Howard County in the past couple weeks and here's the culmination of that process - threshing time. From right to left: a gasoline engine that turns a big belt that powers the threshing machine; the oats bundles being unloaded from a horse-drawn wagon that brought them in from the field where they'd been stored in the shocks; the big gray threshing machine that sorts the grain from the chaff; the oats is going into the wood wagon mostly hidden behind the threshing machine; the long gray tube carrying the chaff to a stationary baling machine that makes small square bales; the bales being loaded up on wagons and ready to be carried back to the barn. My Grandpa Reis threshed oats this same way only three miles away and I helped to throw bundles off the wagon and into the threshing machine just like you see here but a half-century ago so this was life as I knew it growing up. Grandpa farmed with tractors rather than horses starting in the 1940s though.

Another requested stop on our journey home beside the harbour. The phosphate being unloaded comes from Western Sahara, Africa to make fertilizer for NZ farms.

Thanks very much if you feel like commenting.

Sorry the absolutely horrid picture, as you cannot even see the front of the British figures.

I hope you guys enjoy this little scene I put together last night. I made a flamethrower to go with the dead German, and I painted another camouflage Stahlhelm as well. Road looks alot better but the truck covers it up.

Thoughts appreciated!

Thanks and God Bless,

-Brian

The biggest harbour for consumer fish in Denmark. Due to Brexit the harbour has faced a decline in trafic from trawlers unloading their cargo (fish). Now the future for the harbour and community looks very uncertain.

Sure is nice to see a couple SD40s.

This winter, as in previous years, I have been in this beautiful and serene coastal town, where artisanal fishing is part of its essence.

Making the first pull off the Chief Wawatam on September 10, 1981 is SOO 4414 and 4427 at St. Ignace. If the boat was fully loaded the units and train would end up blocking State Street(the main street of St. Ignace) so the crews would normally take a couple cuts off the boat and pull over State street and shove back into the lakefront yard and then return for the last two cuts off the boat.

The job of unloading coal in Bangladesh is very hard. All work is done manually. Heavy baskets, loaded with coal, are worn on the head of both men and women. Hard work leaves its mark on people.

The Copper Basin ore train has shoved the loaded train through the track on the right and is now pulling ahead slowly just starting the ore unloading process.

I wish I'd spent more time on this operation but it was 30 miles away.....and SOO ran COFC right by my door in Trout Lake so I didn't do the Chief justice. This was late March 1981 as 403 and 2408 empty the Chief at St. Ignace.
