Ficus macrophylla, commonly known as the Moreton Bay fig or Australian banyan, is a large evergreen banyan tree of the Mulberry Family (Moraceae) native to eastern Australia, from the Wide Bay–Burnett region in the north to the Illawarra in New South Wales, as well as Lord Howe Island where the subspecies F. m. columnaris is a banyan form covering 2.5 acres (a hectare) or more of ground. Its common name is derived from Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia. It is best known for its imposing buttress roots.

Late last November, Guy( www.flickr.com/photos/ozgfk/22930379874/in/dateposted/ ) and I had a drink and a chat about cameras at a bar along Kandahar Street. Our waitress was cool and friendly, so we asked if she would let us take her portrait. I got her name, wrote it down, and now it's disappeared. If I find that paper, I'll update the photo title here. I recall her saying that she's working at that bar to pay her way through school.

Our Portuguese President, Prof. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, yesterday visited the new installations of the Portuguese ONGD "Mundo a Sorrir" in Porto. Before entering he was "caught" by a group of university students who asked for Selfies with him and autographs. He kindly did everything they asked, even autographed their T-shirts when paper was missing..
