The Maryland Military Department came together to recognize the diverse backgrounds and cultures of its members through the seventh annual Unity Day celebration at the Fifth Regiment Armory in Baltimore, Md., April 26.

Unity Day is an opportunity to observe the different ethnic backgrounds that make up the Military Department and educate the members on what makes each culture unique. This year’s theme was ‘Recognizing Diversity and Religion – one nation, many voices.’

The only light source for this photo was the candles themselves. I love the overall value of this photo, as well as the contrast of the white flame against the completely black background. I also like the orange color at the bottom of the candle and the warm feeling that it brings to the photo. I feel that the reflection of the candlelight on the table top adds to the photo as well. I did the placement of the candles to give an implied line that gives the photo more depth. The candles also give a sense of unity.

This was the next covered Bridge after the Lowell one on the Willamette River... Unity was a little crossroad and the only store there was closed.. I guess all that is left now is the covered bridge... It crosses Big Fall Creek..

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District's work at Unity Island is made up of two separate projects that will remove invasive species and restore 10 acres of coastal wetland habitat. The restoration project is a prime example of a much larger campaign for beneficial use of dredged material in the Great Lakes region.
