Alexandre Kazbegi (1848–1893) was a famous Georgian writer and one of the most important literary figures of the 19th century. He was born in Stepantsminda (now known as Kazbegi), a picturesque village in the Caucasus Mountains. His work often reflected the life, culture, and struggles of the people of this mountainous region. Kazbegi came from a noble family, but felt a strong connection with the common people of the mountains, such as shepherds and peasants. He studied in Tbilisi and later in Moscow, where he immersed himself in literature and philosophy. Eventually, he returned to his native region. In order to understand the simple life of the mountain people, he chose to work as a shepherd for a while. This experience formed the basis for his literary works. Kazbegi's stories often revolved around justice, struggle against oppression, and the freedom of the mountains. He portrayed the rugged, free spirit of the people of the Caucasus and their strong connection with nature. Going back to a bit of still life photography now as i have not done much in this area for a while now. I am really getting into doing diptych's lately so really i am just doing some simple experiments. I found it really hard to come up with a title for this image/photograph as there really is not a lot of meaning behind both shots tied together. So the title words are partly from heavy rock metal and indie band 'Iron Butterfly' who i am not a particular fan of but it did help me though by using the song lyrics to one of their songs. I have slightly rearranged the words into my own to make it more personal to me.
When i was listening to a song by the band Elbow which is called 'One Day Like This' it made me think of these two photographs. So i can sort of relate it back to that song. So on the day i taken both these shots which i think work very well together, i was very bored so i just got my camera out and just experimented really using natural window light. I got a plate then just spread purple glitter, then placed a few beads and petals on to the plate. I just want to thank everybody on flickr for commenting on this photograph because i have used some of those words as my tags.
I wanted there to be a certain softness behind both images/photographs with a sense of beauty conveyed by the pink colors. There is also a little bit of a twist with my intense hand holding onto the flower. This photograph is open to many interpretations but i will leave that for the audience to decide. It could maybe relate to friendship or not. I will not give no more away now.

To make encaustic art necessitates an acceptance of imperfection. The wax medium is like skin. It can be scraped, scratched, cut, burned, marred, scarred, and even healed. It looks different depending on how the light touches it. It can glow and be translucent. Working in encaustics has made me embrace imperfection, accept authenticity, and has taught me that sometimes we have to leave well enough alone. One too many passes with a scraping tool, and the entire piece can be ruined.

I remember as a kid being sent to the shops for milk and other groceries; however, I never had to walk such great distances for water barefoot or worn shoes without shoelaces...
Please see more in this picture than just a 'candid' capture of three poor children from Africa without the latest in fashion wear and comforts in life, it should remind you that your situation might not be as dire as many other citizens on earth and if they endure the hardships, perhaps so should you? Be grateful for what you have....

Printed yesterday. Tomorrow, it will be toned in coffee and black tea. :)
A face emerging from the undefined, caught between presence and dissolution. This piece is an exploration of fragility and intensity, where colors blend and blur like fleeting emotions. The unfinished lines and the raw, expressive strokes invite the viewer to complete the story—who is she, and what is she feeling?

Not much of anything nor many children in this area near Suurbraak but this sign does give a little 'life' to this dry but scenic route with little wildlife (well, we saw nothing that day).
Would be a nice place to grow up in, seems quiet and peaceful but few job prospects for adults apart from farm work and tourism which I can predict is a little less now with the recession...

This is a handmade, hand-bound artist's book of toned and stitched cyanotypes that are a part of my Elegy portfolio. The book was a response to a challenge from a book-making community on Instagram, which is called #areyoubookenough. The theme for February was "HEAL," so it seemed fitting to make something that related to my hysterectomy, for which the process of healing remains ongoing.
Toned Cyanotype on cotton watercolor paper. 9"x12". This is a combination of cyanotype techniques, including the use of a negative for contact printing and the placement of three di,emsional objects on and around the negative. The stone sculptures in Sno, a small village in the Kazbegi region of Georgia, are part of a remarkable art project in the Caucasus. These sculptures consist of impressive stone artworks depicting giant faces, often with a melancholic or mysterious expression. They were created by local artist Merab Piranishvili, who is renowned for his unique ability to bring faces and emotions to life in natural stone. De stenen sculpturen in Sno, een klein dorpje in de Kazbegi-regio van Georgië, maken deel uit van een bijzonder kunstproject in de Kaukasus. De sculpturen bestaan uit indrukwekkende stenen kunstwerken van gigantische gezichten, die vaak een melancholische of mysterieuze uitstraling hebben.
