Bagan (formerly Pagan) is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar . From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

Josip Broz Tito, born 1892, Kumrovec, Austria-Hungary [now Croatia], died 1980, Ljubljana, Yugoslavia [now Slovenia].

Yugoslav revolutionary and statesman. The first Communist leader in power to defy Soviet hegemony, he supported workers' management of production rather than Soviet-style central planning, and led the formation of the non-aligned bloc during the Cold War. He permitted freedom in the Arts, but demanded loyalty to the Party. His cult of personality did not survive him.

His little rural hometown is now an open-air architectural and cultural museum with many houses and barns containing household goods and farm implements of the period. You can see a pile of dried corn in a barn behind the statue's left shoulder, and a spider web on its right.

Shot in sunset lighting with unharvested fields in the background. This little guy sat still for about 5 minutes and gave me plenty of time to compose the image. Technically not a macro, but I really like the overall composition here and wanted to give the viewer an idea of the place and mood, rather than just going for crazy close-up detail. Needles Unified School District operated this school. Amboy Elementary closed in 1999 per the State of California Department of Education. The closure occurred, according to one source, because all children had moved out of the area and there was no potable water source.

The BNSF Railroad passes through Amboy. Several companies are involved in recovering minerals from the desert.

As of this writing, US Route 66, now called National Trails Highway, is closed to the west and east of Amboy for bridge upgrades. It's possible to get to Interstate 40 using Kelbaker Road. It's also possible to get to Twentynine Palms by using Amboy Road.

Scott Air Force Base (IATA: BLV, ICAO: KBLV, FAA LID: BLV) is a United States Air Force base in St. Clair County, Illinois, near Belleville and O'Fallon, 17 miles east-southeast of downtown St. Louis. Scott Field was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the United States entered World War I in April 1917. It is headquarters of Air Mobility Command (AMC), and is also the headquarters of the U.S. Transportation Command, a Unified Combatant Command that coordinates transportation across all the services.

The base is operated by the 375th Air Mobility Wing (375 AMW) and is also home to the Air Force Reserve Command's 932d Airlift Wing (932 AW) and the Illinois Air National Guard's 126th Air Refueling Wing (126 ARW), the latter two units being operationally gained by AMC.

The base currently employs 13,000 people, 5,100 civilians with 5,500 active-duty Air Force, and an additional 2,400 Air National Guard and Reserve personnel. It was announced in June 2014 that two new cybersecurity squadrons will be added to the three currently on base.

Its airfield is also used by civilian aircraft, with civilian operations at the base referring to the facility as MidAmerica St. Louis Airport. MidAmerica has operated as a Joint Use Airport since beginning operations in November 1997. Allegiant Air, the only commercial airline with scheduled flights at the airport, pulled out of the airport on January 3, 2009, but now has multiple nonstop destinations.
