Ty had been very unhappy after his roommate Romeo passed away, so I went over to the animal shelter and brought home a new friend last week.

keep yourself occupied. Keep your mind off things that don't help you"

Happy new week my lovely friends!

Thankyou in advance for your support, faves, comments and awards!

Suilven with its head in the clouds

At first it looked as if it would be photography in the street like any other. But it wasn't. The beggar agreed to be photographed and took the money on offer, but after a while - I was just looking through the viewfinder - she hit me on the wrist with her stick, just next to my camera! Something like this happened to me for the first time... and I hope for the last.

Thank you so much my dear friends for your support and for your faves and kind comments, greatly appreciated! Have a wonderful day :-)

It's cold, windy and rainy. The sky is covered with thick dark clouds. The wooden hut has already survived many such weather conditions.

You haven't been to Glencoe it seems unless you try this shot, Buachaille Etive Mor, or any other honey pot, "made for Instagram" shots. It was my first visit and whilst I was excited to see the snow, I just knew that, for me, the blue sky would kill all chances of something I would be happy with. I also discovered that leaving my wide angle at home was a bad decision, although wearing wellies was a great one. Stood in the sucking mud, churned up by hundreds of previous photographers, I resorted to stitching four frames together and then adding some golden light in LR. I'm still not happy with the sky but replacing the sky in Photoshop is beyond my ageing capabilities.

This is how I'm feeling about Covid _19 these days.

London Surrey Classic

To 2024.

I can't say that I'm unhappy to see it go, as for a number of reasons it has been a pretty "challenging" year.

Here's wishing a better 2025 for all!

Taken at Longleat Safari Park, Unhappy Pelican missed out on a feed, not happy at all.

Not enough room on the perch. The juvenile would not share space with the adult Green Heron. One of those exciting moments in nature.

This Bearded reedling did not look pleased when i spotted him through the reeds this morning. Several pairs of these along the river today though they were staying low in pairs, Wont be long before they are making their nests :-)

Why is everything so heavy?!

This unhappy fellow was sitting with arms crossed because he wasn't being fed. I don't blame him for his disconsolate disposition, do you?

Drunk in a ball pit, what else is new? Just my Friday.

This Catbird, one of the few birds we were able to photograph yesterday, is a little displeased at how happy everyone is for Owl-o-ween. :(

One of the metal figures in Carl's Critter Garden in Hanksville, Utah appears a bit unhappy.

Manny, our resident Anhinga, was not happy to have us over to "his" shoreline.

Notoriously unhappy, one out of a society that is notoriously unhappy; one of those whose mirror is covered, obliterated by the clutter of things accumulating year by year. One of those who wants to have it all. You are not one of us:

not wanting anything,

not knowing anything,

and not having anything.

This is getting so common here in my hood ... one of the seven bungalow communities in the City of Orlando. They demolish old bungalow homes and then build huge houses onto the same lot. This is not one of our hundred year old bungalows, probably built in the 1950s, but still ... the land itself being more valuable than restoring and preserving old homes.

Anyway, Happy Window Wednesdays from this not so happy house!

Not for being up and out on a freezing day, or for the lack of splendid sunrise......but the fence; I know, understand and appreciate preservation but I don't really like the fence, neither does 'H'!

Saturday morning, I woke up with a smile!

I openend my window and.....

A there you are! Finally a lovely winters day!

...3 days after we brought this poinsettia home it had shed practically all its leaves and several of its colourful bracts

... I made a pile of the leaves at the base of the pot for a photo for Saturday Self-Challenge: strong colours

...this afternoon we took the sad poinsettia back to the garden centre and brought home another in exchange

your visits are much appreciated, thank you

The last in-air transfer of a rodent today was between the papa and mama white-tailed kite, much to the displeasure of the 3 fledglings. These parents appear to have started a second nest and will possibly have a new set of chicks in a few weeks.

No , not that one 'cos it is up over at Godrevy - this one is down south at The Lizard Point as far down south as you can get !!

The Lizard Lighthouse stands at Lizard Point, the most southerly point of mainland Britain.

It acts as a coastal mark and to indicate landfall, guiding shipping passing along the English Channel and warning them of the dangerous waters here.

The current lighthouse with its two towers was built in 1751 but there was a working light here as early as 1619. This early lighthouse was erected thanks to the generosity of Sir John Killigrew, who applied for a patent which was granted on the condition that the light would be extinguished in time of war so it did not help to guide enemy vessels.

Killigrew agreed and erected the lighthouse but while he was sufficiently wealthy to have it built, the cost of maintaining it proved too much and almost bankrupted him. He had hoped that the vessels who benefited from the light would contribute towards its upkeep but unfortunately this did not happen. James I ordered that all ships who passed the light should pay a halfpenny per ton. Pressure from the unhappy ship owners who disagreed with this tax on them forced the patent to be revoked so the light was extinguished and the tower was subsequently demolished.

Although requests were made, it was not until 1748 that Thomas Fonnereau was given the go ahead by Trinity House to construct a new lighthouse. Completed in 1751 it is the building you see today with its two towers linked by a cottage in which one of the keepers would sit keeping an eye on both lanterns. If the fires became low he would sound a cow horn to let the others know it was time to stoke up the fires with the bellows.

In 1771, Trinity House took over the running of the Lizard lighthouse.

From 1903 onwards only the east tower was lit.

Automation came to the lantern in 1998 so the lighthouse keepers were no longer required.

The lantern has been removed from the western tower.

The former lighthouse keepers' cottages are available to rent as holiday cottages.

Please note the lighthouse itself is a working lighthouse and cannot be rented.
