rising from darkness
the slow ascent of a pearl
inside the night's shell
The final image from this little series.
So until the next supersized supermoon on 25 November 2034...
I'll be catching up on flickr ;-))
darkness swallows light
the hunger inside us all
would devour the earth
This sounds very dark I know...
But I showed a friend this image
and they led me to the Norse myths
around the wolves Fenir, Sköll, and Hati Hróðvitnisson.
Sköll (meaning treachery) chases the sun during the day.
Hati Hróðvitnisson (meaning hatred of enemies) chases the moon.
At the end of time Fenir devours the cosmos.
The cosmos begins again...
A myth. And a metaphor :-)
A homeless American man sits on the sidewalk along Las Vegas Blvd, the strip, staring at his cigarette.
Having fun at a casino. I guess this is what you order when you don't want to keep going back to the bar for drinks all night. Or.... for an hour.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is, on one level at least, the story of a girl who disappears down a rabbit hole to a fantastic place full of bizarre adventures.
Charles Dodgson, a mathematician at Christ Church, Oxford, first told his surreal story to the daughters of dean Henry Liddell as they rowed down the Thames.
After the boating trip, 10-year-old Alice Liddell badgered Dodgson to write it down and Alice in Wonderland - under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll - was born. The heroine follows a talking white rabbit, meets the Queen of Hearts and plays croquet using flamingos as mallets.
Since the 1960's there has been a trend for readers to identify an underlying drug theme in the book.
The Cheshire Cat disappears leaving only the enigmatic grin behind. Alice drinks potions and eats pieces of mushroom to change her physical state. The caterpillar smokes an elaborate water pipe. The whole atmosphere of the story is so profoundly disjointed from reality - surely drugs must have had an influence? After all this was the era of legal opium use.
I'm still "decoding" the Code, flying through the pages of the book....

El Mac & Kofie UTI
Time To Shine / Soze Gallery Downtown Los Angeles, January 2013
Enamel spray paint on corrugated metal roll down door.
Hand holding pen by El Mac | Backgrounds and forms by Kofie
Located on 7th St. just east of Mateo, Downtown Los Angeles.
Just horsing around with some more ultra close wide angle shots.
I had to use 18mm instead of 14mm to include both ears and some background in the shot. Even at 18mm the perspective adjustment in software was still powerful. This guy wins all of his races by a nose.

My new book has just officially released! People are just getting into Chap 1 and seem quite hooked... so that's great news! You can grab it, exclusively on Amazon, at stuckincustoms.com/links/undertheinfluencebook . I ALMOST called the book "How to Stay ZEN on Social Media," but decided to go with the more click-baity title instead. I think you'll really enjoy the chapters on Anxiety and Mass Delusional Behavior. There's all kinds of stuff that happens in the world of Instagram that'll blow your mind. Enjoy!

I took some photos of graffit in Los Angeles just so I could compare the photomerge option in PhotoShop to the result of that of Autostitch.
Autostitch results kick PhotoShop ass. I am not even going to post the PhotoShop version.
A head on collision on 99/Aurora Ave in Wallingford/Fremont tied up rush-hour traffic for several hours tonight. The driver of the SUV, reportedly a 70yr old man, was hit head on by a box truck (far frame right) who's driver is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the wreck. While this side of the SUV looks pretty decent the other side has been demolished. Both drivers were rushed to the hospital; recent news reports are that both are expected to survive. The driver of the box truck will be booked for vehicular assault upon release.
Yet another convincing reason why folks should never get behind the wheel while under the influence.
I have a new book! I almost called the book "How to Stay Zen on Social Media," because that's one of the main points! However, I decided to go with the more click-baity name of "Under the Influence - How to Fake Your Way Into Getting Rich on Instagram: Influencer fraud, Selfies, Anxiety, Ego, and Mass Delusional Behavior" ... Catchy eh? Here's the link to Amazon stuckincustoms.com/links/undertheinfluencebook ...It's avail there exclusively in pre-release mode!
I see quite a bit of suffering out there on social media, and that's why I wrote this book. I hope it is a fun way to open the door, if even just a little, to have people become more mindful in their daily activities. Social Media, if used wrongly, can really add to a lot of undue suffering.
Another source of suffering is some of these Instagram Influencer charlatans are using completely unscrupulous tricks to gain a big following and engagement to trick brands into giving them the seemingly ideal lifestyle that is perfectly Instagrammable. So, a lot of people suffer anxiety when they see this stuff online because they feel like losers. But that is all based on a lie, so there is zero need for you to have any internal suffering by comparing yourself to a crook.
I've accidentally become an expert in these subject matters just because of the way I live my life. 90% of my income here at my company comes from fine art sales. A minority is from Influencer gigs and that is where I discovered this unfortunate underbelly of the Instagram world. I'm not writing this book because I feel like these people are taking anything away from me. They're not.
These fraudsters have created what I call Mass Delusional Behavior. I get into that in the sections about selfies and the ego. You'll find the book to be quite philosophical in an approachable way. You'll see some of the traps a regular person can fall into that can lead to an empty life where you only feed the ego instead of becoming your true self. It shows there's another path!
Whelp, I hope you love the book and find it interesting ... it's quite a little adventure!
I was trying to figure out photos to share for this book... I found a few from my portfolio that I thought were interesting. I took this one a few months ago in Chengdu, China. I was invited backstage before a Chinese opera and these were two different ladies getting ready for their performance... It's just one photo and each lady was sitting on opposite sides of the mirror.
