Under the EL ... the structural elements ... New York City. An easily captured shot ... if you just look up.

Chicago, IL. September 12, 2021. Shot on a Nikon F6 and Kodak Portra 160. Developed and scanned by The Darkroom. Metadata added using Meta35.

From my Chicago stockpile of photos. The unfortunate thing is that I know very little at this point where most of these were actually shot. This is one of my favorites however - I could be wrong but I think this could be under the brown line.

Friday night I left one of my favorite coffee shops in the city, Fixx Coffee Bar when they closed at 11. I was intending to head over to the Pick Me Up Cafe, which stays open later, so I could hang out there and get some work done. But on the way I decided I was hungry and craving breakfast, so I stopped by Nookies and had some soup and an omelet. Still intending to go to Pick Me Up, I left Nookies - stepped outside and breathed in the night air. That breath was invigorating. The warmth of spring, the energy of urban night life flowing through the streets, the coffee inside me - it was intoxicating! I never made it to the Pick Me Up that night. Instead I spent the next three hours wondering the streets with my camera. It was awesome!

Since I ended the 365 project, I have not been taking many self-portraits. Recently I received and email from Rob telling me he missed seeing my photos after I finished 365. I really appreciated hearing that. And so after spending a few hours wondering the streets shooting, it just seemed fitting here to finish the night with a self-portrait again.

The Night Wanderings

This is a shot I took with a Holga underneath the el tracks near Wabash and Washington in Chicago. There are three overlapping exposures on two frames of film.

My O Scale train of wooden IRT EL MUDC Class cars approaches in distance and rumbles overhead on the EL riding on the center express track
