Another one of our underrated looking birds found in the UK. Can often be mistaken for a juvenile Rook but the Crows head has a more distinctive flatter crown and a much tighter neater-looking plumage. As with all corvids the Carrion Crow is a very intelligent bird and can recognise different human and crow faces.
Always overlooked with its stunning plumage often underrated and all for being classed as something common. Can also be known as street pigeons, city pigeons and city doves. These pigeons were originally bred from the wild rock dove which naturally inhabit mountains and sea cliffs and which the feral pigeons find our town city's and the ledges of buildings a great substitute. The feral pigeon will display a greater variation of colours and patterns in their plumage compared with the rock dove. Its is said that darker birds maybe able to store higher concentrations of trace metals in the feathers which is found typically higher in urban areas.
I've never been a fan of the name 'common' when applied to an animal and while having a short time out sitting at the water's edge by one of my local lakes a male mallard duck decided to sit next to me just as I was thinking about how sparce and empty my lakes had become with the lack of wildfowl due probably to the outbreak of bird flu we are having at the moment. I couldn't help but admire this male's plumage with those colour's and that iridescent blue glistening in the afternoon sun when I thought to my self that the mallard duck is far from looking common but stunning and such a very underrated looking bird.
From the family Muscidae commonly know as house flies or as seen here stable flies. Found widespread in England and Wales, males are more commonly seen from May to June while the females are often seen in November. Breeds on cow dung and is most encountered around cow pastures. Not everyone's favourite cup off tea here but I have to admit that flies are one of the things I love to photograph the most, so underrated and so important to us and the animal food chain. I for one will always stick up for these under dogs as their larvae can help in forensic science, medical research, help clear up the mess we make and are important pollinators in which a large proportion of the food we eat is on our plates because of what they do.
Another unlikely Washington scene... this one from the Gingko Petrified Forest.
The other piece is from a shoot I did one day when I had a nasty migraine and could only find relief in the total absorption/distraction of trying to do ridiculous things with mirrors.
Yesterday, I found myself in a similar spot. I didn't have a migraine, but I spent several hours setting up and adjusting and rearranging and doing test shots... before concluding that the goal I was after was just too ambitious.
I like that part of the process of photography - the failure - as much as the relative successes. I may not achieve what I set out to achieve... but at least I get a better sense of what's beyond my grasp.
From yesterday's session I learned that anything requiring me to stand on a chair (or other unstable object) to see through the camera is not a good idea. I also learned to accept that some ideas just don't translate. And man... did I ever feel relieved when I gave up.
I think giving up is hugely underrated. Quitters of the world, unite.
Freesias and daffodils are my favourites of the spring bulbs. I think Freesiia are underrated.
Freesias are in the iris family, Iridaceae and are named after the German botanist and medical practitioner, Friedrich Freese.
Thanks for visiting. I am very grateful for the kind comments and faves.

I had fun photographing common American Robins today as they ate crabapples. They really are pretty (especially in winter) and frequently underrated birds.

Often unnoticed and underrated, I think, the Dunnock was once misleadingly known as the Hedge Sparrow.
I find it necessary to take time to appreciate the ordinary once in awhile. Do not discount the beauty of the common Blue Jay or its type A personality. These birds set off an alarm when a snake would come too close to our koi pond. They are accomplished vocalists. Yesterday I watched one splash unabashedly in the bird bath, then sit on the edge and mimic the screech of a Red-Tailed Hawk. So much more than ordinary.

Such an underrated Duck.
The mallard is a dabbling duck that breeds throughout the temperate and subtropical Americas, Eurosiberia, and North Africa and has been introduced to New Zealand, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, the Falkland Islands,
Blue-gray gnatcatchers are, without a doubt, one of the most special and entertaining birds the US has to offer. With a pretty sky-blue back contrasting with a paler shade of blue, along with white and black, they boast what I think is one of the more underrated color combinations when it comes to Neotropical migrants, and I’m sure they know it because they sure like to flip those tails around (kidding, that’s a foraging technique). That isn’t the only thing about them that’s underrated; males are pretty great songsters too, emitting an intricate series of what is both their own little babbles and little phrases of other species songs. I even found yesterday that they are able to mimic new vocalizations on the spot. Unfortunately, these guys have the luck of returning earlier than the warblers, and they only get two weeks of fame before what many people consider the real show falls upon our forests. That’s okay, though- they get right to pairing up and nest-building and have fledged young by the end of June, so I think they couldn’t care less about how much attention we pay to them.

Another handsome individual. If you are getting the feeling that I saw a lot of swamp sparrows on this particular outing, you are correct! I find them to be attractive and underrated birds, so I'll continue to post the shots I like. Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, Missouri
Well, here I find myself apologizing once again for not frequenting your streams. I'm in the middle of a short vacation, actually a "staycation" (which are grossly underrated might I add), and we've been experiencing some amazing weather...so, my Flickr time is taking a back seat at the moment. I fully intend to play catch up in the coming days.
Blue-gray gnatcatchers are easily one of my favorite returning songbirds, and highly underrated ones at that. With a disproportionate amount of sass and attitude for a bird that doesn’t quite reach five inches, they light up the forest. I really enjoy the males in particular, who sport a beautiful shade of cerulean that blends nicely with a black and white tail, and of course the comical eyebrow that always makes them look angry. Combine that with a unique, variable song, and you’ve got a songbird like no other. Unfortunately, they’re more often than not overlooked when the bulk of the other Neotropical migrants arrive, so it’s nice to enjoy them while they’ve got the spotlight.

Probably the most underrated Utah national park. Would love to go back and explore the hikes there properly.
The Stock Dove is an arguably underrated bird, despite being a neat and rather pretty species. Smaller than the similar-looking Woodpigeon, and lacking white in the wing, the species is often overlooked.
The Stock Dove boasts a fine blue-grey sheen to its plumage. Two neat black lines on the closed wing, and dark wing edges in flight help to distinguish it from its cousin, the Woodpigeon. Stock Doves enjoy a mixture of farmland for feeding, and woodland where they nest in holes in large old trees.
The Stock Dove is widespread across England, Wales, southern Scotland and eastern Ireland. Bird Atlas 2007-11 data show that there has been range contraction in the north and west of Britain & Ireland over the last few decades, but this has been offset by increases in breeding density in the east.

White can seem pretty dull if you need
Lots of colors in your life like in
Lots of action
Lots of people around you
Lots of Inspiration
Missing parts of you, that you are not whole, not happy, don't have the love you are worthy of
Or
Maybe you have
Lots of thoughts in your head you don't want to deal with
Fatigue towards life
Colors add certain things to our life and we instinctly listen, I think. What color to wear today, what color will we have in our livingroom and not to mention our bedroom.
We know deep down that colors do us good, but we might not know that we actually use them, with our consiousness.
Maybe we should try to get some knowledge, actively use the colors.
Then you might see that white is "The Color"
It gives you
peace
tranquility
exquisite light
hope
cool you down
dreams
Inspiration
Your brain will calm down, find its place, where solutions will come forward and you will get closer to yourself.
White is definitely underrated, I bet you agree too - and you have probably not been giving this a thought before, hehe.
Me neither, lol.
Me funny, yes.
Happy Smile on Saturday you guys!!

Said I many times, love is illusion
A feeling result of confusion
With knowing smile and blase sigh
A cynical so and so, am I
I feel so sure, so positive
So utterly unchangeably certain
Though I never was aware of loving you
'Til I suddenly realized there was love in you and oh
In this world of ordinary people
Extraordinary people
I'm glad there is you
In this world of overrated pleasures
And underrated treasures
I'm glad there is you
I live to love
I love to live with you beside me
This role, so new
I'll muddle through with you
If you'll guide me through
In this world where many play at love
And hardly any stay in love
I'm glad there is you
More than ever, I'm glad there is you
Said I many times, love is illusion

Monterrey, Mexico, taken before sunrise from my hotel room window. Monterrey is quite underrated as a tourist destination I believe and is worth a visit, it may not have the disneyesque appeal of the colonial towns but the setting surrounded by rugged sharp mountains is something to behold.
