The forest undergrowth puts on its fresh, green spring attire. New leaves and ferns herald the forest awakening.

The water snake,

when out of water,

snakes (as experience taught her)

towards the water,

yet her brain

can't tell what's lake, what rain.

I was pleased to see this Ladybird in the undergrowth yesterday as I was weeding my plot.... Stay Safe at Home!

One of my favourites woods: a gorgeous birch forest near the Scottish Cairngorms. I just love that undergrowth, the many many kinds of mushrooms growing here and the overall mood and feel of it.

When You lost Your path and you find Yourself trapped in the thicket, hold on to Your faith and keep watching out for light. Every forest has its end somewhere. Even Haensel und Gretel found theirs way out of the woodlands.

White-Throated Sparrow.

Between 6 and 7 inches long. Top streaked and botton a clear gray. There are two color forms: a black and white head stripes and a tan and black head stripes. Both have a sharply defined white throat patch with a dark bill. Females and young birds duller. White-Crowned Sparrow similar but lacks the white throat patch.

They inhabit brushy undergrowth in coniferous woodlands. They winter in brushy woodlands, pastures and suburban areas.

They range from Mackenzie in Canada, central Quebec and Newfoundland south to North Dakota, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. They winter in much of the eastern United States and in small numbers in southwestern states.

It doesn't matter how long you exist. Be at the right time in the right place. Enjoy your life. We only have one.

... for a (probably not so) peaceful Caturday!

Orchis pourpre - Orchis purpurea

This is possibly the first time I have seen a mating pair of Brimstone and certainly the first time I have photographed a pair.

I was walking along one of the local straight paths and I saw 2 Brimstone 200 plus metres ahead of me. Instead of a quick tumble as they met these 2 stayed together. Looking through the binoculars I could see it was a male and female so I walked a little faster. However, they went into the undergrowth and I was still around 75 metres short of where they were.

It was then a case of searching for them as I was certain they would have started to mate. After about 5 minutes and just before I gave up I spotted them under a Bramble leaf.

No wonder we hardly ever see them in this position!!

Plants with pink flowers can bloom because they have enough sunlight in that lower part of the forest. I photographed it in town Zakopane, Poland.

Flowering bush is Ookamenoki (forked viburnum, Viburnum furcatum). It is spreading branches over Sasa (bamboo grass).

Often all you get is only a glimpse

of this little warbler as it pops out of the undergrowth for just a few seconds ..this male did just that and I managed this single shot before he dropped down into the scrub.

Taken on the Cornish Coast.
