Little Club is starting to develop an underbite, just like her mom Pixie. Alongside her sisters, this adorable fox terrier/chihuahua mix is gazing off into the distance in search of a loving family in or around Tucson, Arizona.
Not technically a photo*, but it was burning a hole in my "My Pictures" folder. Just thought I'd share my post-surgery (2005-01-19) face.
(Moved my upper jaw forward 6mm, my lower jaw back 2mm to fix my underbite. The cool thing is that I only had two itty-bitty scars on my lower jaw; they did almost all the work inside my mouth! [Which is kind of gross when you think of it.])
*Scan of a printout of a reconstruction from cone-beam CT scanner or something or other.
Once upon a time, I listened to really, really bad music.
Granted, what can be qualified as a 'bad' music is incredibly subjective, and this fact isn't lost on me. Why I can assume I listened to 'bad' music is because, simply put, I thought it was bad music even while I was listening to it. But when you're 13 years old you wear Tommy jeans even when they don't fit right and drink Orbitz even though it feels like snot in your throat. You do stupid things and you wear stupid things and you buy stupid things because you desperately want to fit in even though you secretly know that everyone else thinks it is stupid too. It is like playing a game with your peers that no one wants to play, but everyone really wants to win. This album was sort of game piece, a totem that represented my juvenile desire for praise and acceptance from my classmates.
Like any other thirteen year old girl grappling with growth spurts and training bras, I had a fervent crush on a new boy every week. It didn't help that I spent every Friday night watching Dawson's Creek, a show that, inevitably, gave me a idealistic notion of teenage relationships and made me pine for my own Pacey (I was never a fan of James Van Der Beek, for obvious reasons).
I developed a particular crush on a boy named, well, let's call him Jeff. Much like my love/hate relationship with everything associated with the 8th grade, my crush on him was rather unexplainable. He was short, slightly obnoxious, and spent most of his allowance and lawnmowing money on Ecko hoodies. I suspect that my crush on him developed by sheer proximity, a result of our lockers being next to each other. In retrospect, he was a glaring example of how little I knew about myself and what I actually wanted.
Puberty was not kind; I grew tall and awkward, and while most of my classmates slimmed down, I managed to gain a ton of weight. I soon recognized that I would never be a Jen but maybe, just maybe, my crush would see me as a Joey. Rather than prance around in a tight pair of Silver jeans, I would need to impress him with my intellect and vast knowledge of a shared interest. Surely, that would convince a 13 year old boy that I was a viable candidate for ICQ chats and making out in the corner of the cafeteria at the school dance.
An obvious dilemma in my fool-proof plan was an embarrassing lack of interests. However, this barely registered as a legitimate obstacle. After a bit of questioning and eavesdropping on conversations, I quickly learned of his love for all things nu-metal. I was beginning to get into music at this time, so it wasn't a stretch for me to start listening to the bands that were overplayed on Muchmusic anyways. If my crush liked nu-metal, I was going to become the biggest nu-metal fan he had ever met. And I did. I spent nights perusing Korn message boards, memorizing Staind lyrics, and spending all my birthday money on Limp Bizkit albums.
Did it work? Obviously not. My pragmatic attempt at love failed to consider all the other factors working against me: my underbite, an impenetrable shyness, and a precocious love for academics and HTML coding. I was no Joey and this wasn't Dawson's Creek and I couldn't rely on an 'underdog' television trope to make him notice me. Aside from a few nervous conversations about the upcoming Family Values Tour, any potential teenage romance quickly fizzled.
However, like TV, I did learn an important lesson about being myself and not changing for someone else. Surprisingly, I didn't stop listening to nu-metal right away. I introduced many of the bands to a close friend and we would often stay up late listening to Follow the Leader, much to the dismay of her parents. Being the only two girls in our 8th grade class who listened to nu-metal became a source of pride for us. It was my very first taste of counterculture, my own private rebellion against the social pressures of teenagehood. I relished that feeling and a part of that has stuck with me every since.
After I bought this album, a consolation for not being able to attend the tour that year, my friend and I sat on her bedroom floor as I opened it. Inside the limited edition version was a pack of trading cards and a stick of gum. I found the gum particularly novel and I remember telling my friend that I would only chew it once we were standing in the middle of the Toronto Skydome during Family Values Tour 2000. That clearly did not happen. The 12-year-old gum remains unchewed and I haven't listened to this album since 1999, but it will remain in my collection as a subtle reminder of that time in my life.
My new puppy! I haven't named her yet, but she very quickly earned a nickname because of her underbite.
Update 04.16.08 - I have named her Twink! snipurl.com/24mzw

Initial Examination
When you visit our office for an initial orthodontic evaluation, the orthodontist will perform a comprehensive examination to determine if orthodontic treatment is needed and present the initial findings to you that same day. During the exam the doctor will evaluate jaw, teeth and facial growth to determine if now is the best time to begin orthodontic treatment. If additional growth is recommended, prior to beginning orthodontics, the orthodontist will place your child in the practice recall system and continue to monitor your child as necessary as the permanent teeth erupt and the jaws and face continue to grow. This service is complimentary. If your child or yourself is ready to begin orthodontics immediately the doctor along with the practice treatment coordinator will explain to you the recommended treatment plan, show you the types of appliances available to treat your particular case, review estimated length of treatment, provide a cost estimate and work with you to customize a payment plan that fits your needs, and scheduled to have your appliances placed.
Early Treatment
When necessary early treatment or interceptive treatment may be recommended to guide facial growth and tooth eruption to prevent more serious problems from developing. Early intervention frequently makes the completion of treatment at a later age easier and less time consuming. A variety of early treatment appliances are now available to help your child correct an orthodontic problem. One example is an appliance that expands the palate while the jaw and face are still growing to make room for more teeth and create a broader smile. The following early warning signs may indicate that your child should have an orthodontic examination as soon as possible:
Difficulty in chewing
Open-mouth breathing
Thumb or finger-sucking
Overlapping or crowding of erupting permanent teeth
Jaws that tend to pop or click
Developing underbite, overbite, protruding front teeth, or other abnormal bite development
Diagnostic Records
Following the initial examination, diagnostic “Records Will be taken on each patient. Records confirm the doctor’s diagnosis and treatment plan and serve as documentation of the position of your teeth, lips and profile when you started treatment. Typically records include the following five items:
Panoramic x-ray – This type of x-ray takes captures an image of your teeth and jawregion. It helps in identifying any extra teeth, blocked out teeth, missing teeth, or any problems with your jaws, jaw joints or roots. Depending on your particular problem you may have to have several Panoramic x-rays taken throughout treatment.
Cephalomatic x-rays – This type of x-ray captures an image of your entire skull and profile. It is used to identify any potential growth problems and for recording diagnostic measurements.
Bite registration – Typically your bite registration is taken by having you bite your teeth together into a piece of thin wax. This allow your orthodontist to evaluate how well your top teeth line up with the bottom teeth.
Impressions/ Study Models – In order to make plaster models of your teeth (study models), you will need to have impressions taken as part of the records process. This entails biting into a tray of soft toothpaste or pudding like material (alginate) for about one minute. The material becomes set (or hardened) to a consistency of silly putty and then is taken out. Impressions are taken one at a time and you need one for the top and one for the bottom. This process is painless but can sometimes taste bad. In order to make this more enjoyable we offer a variety of alginate flavors for you to choose from.
Diagnostic photographs – These are pictures taken of your smile, profile, face, teeth and mouth. These pictures are again used to document your current status and will help the doctor track your progress and see how your smile is changing.
Final Treatment Plan
After the records have been reviewed, we will discuss with you and your child the final orthodontic treatment plan including what orthodontic appliances will be used, how long treatment will last, what foods to avoid, proper care of the appliances and teeth during treatment, etc.
Length of Treatment
The length of treatment for each patient varies based on the patient’s age, severity of the bite, and correction needs, but most cases can be completed in approximately 18-24 months. After the braces are removed, a retainer is prescribed and is to be worn continuously for a few months to a few years in order to set the tissues surrounding the newly straightened teeth. When ready, your orthodontist will inform you that you can now just wear the retainer at night or occasionally to make sure the teeth do not shift. In some cases, a permanent retainer can also be prescribed, which is a metal wire that is bonded to the back of the teeth to insure that the teeth remain in proper position.
Patient Cooperation
Patient cooperation is the key to successful orthodontics. Braces are strong enough to withstand the normal forces created during chewing, however, if they are abused, the braces can break. Broken braces and wire may poke into the cheek or tongue and cause sores in the mouth. Broken appliances can also lengthen the treatment time. Appliances must also be worn as prescribed to achieve the desired results.
Dental hygiene is also very important to prevent tooth decay or decalcification during treatment. Certain foods should be avoided to prevent breakage of appliances and also reduce the chance of tooth decay. We will discuss this with you in more detail on the day the appliances are placed, but for more information, please go to the “Caring for Braces” section.
Financial Arrangements
You will be pleasantly surprised that orthodontics may not be as expensive as you thought. The total cost will vary by case and complexity, but we offer a number of flexible and affordable payment plans that will fit your individual needs. These will be discussed with you on the day of your new patient examination. Options include, but are not limited to the following:
25% Down and monthly payments spread out over the remaining treatment time. No interest.
Courtesy Booking discount for payment in full prior to the day appliances are places.
No down and low monthly payments spread out over the time of treatment. Interest based on credit history.
Direct Debit from your checking account monthly
Direct Debit from your credit card monthly
Most major insurance carriers accepted

Are you fed up with people laughing at you because of your crooked teeth?
And, you are looking forward to improving your smile?
In that case, Invisalign can be an excellent option for a smile makeover.
Braces are one of the most apparent remedies for Orthodontic Problems. Still, with an increasing number of kids and adults requiring their teeth to be straightened, another option known as Invisalign has become popular.
Let's learn everything about Invisalign: Definition, Pros, Cost, Cleaning Regime.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign are clear teeth aligners that help correct smiles and are currently at the forefront of Dental Technology. Clear aligners like Invisalign are the most popular alternative to braces. From mild overbites and underbites to malocclusions, Invisalign can help.
Invisalign Clear Aligners comprise FDA-approved medical-grade plastic that has no BPA, BPS, latex, or gluten. They are nearly unnoticeable since they are thin, translucent, and fit securely over your teeth.
Invisalign must be worn on both your upper and lower teeth. Your teeth will gradually straighten while the aligners are worn. The aligners, unlike traditional braces, must be removed when eating or drinking non-clear liquids. Each pair of aligners is typically worn for 22 hours each day, five to seven days. After that, you change to a fresh pair of aligners. Although treatment times vary, most people wear their aligners for 6 to 12 months.
By revolutionising the world of orthodontic care and making straight teeth and healthy smiles available to more individuals worldwide, Invisalign has helped over 7+ million people attain stunning smiles.
Why should you consider Invisalign?
1.Invisible:
The invisibility of Invisalign Clear Teeth Aligners is one of their key advantages. In other words, they are more visually appealing, and most people will not notice you are wearing them. Most people find Braces unattractive, and thus, Invisalign is a perfect choice for teens and adults who want to straighten their teeth while confidently smiling without procrastination.
2.Quick Process:
Straightening your teeth with conventional orthodontic procedures like Metal Braces might take a long time. Wearing metal braces, for example, can take up to 5 years to align your teeth. Straightening your teeth using Invisalign, on the other hand, could take up to a year and a half. Treatment time with Invisalign is up to 50% faster, with 75 per cent better predictability in teeth straightening.
3.Comfort:
With Invisalign, you are guaranteed to have a pleasant experience. Since there are no sharp or protruding edges, one doesn't need to brood over painful nicks or cuts in the mouth. Additionally, Invisalign Clear Teeth Aligners are customised to fit your teeth and mouth!
4.Hygiene:
Invisalign Clear Teeth Aligners are removable! When you're ready to wash and floss your teeth, all you have to do is remove the Invisalign Teeth Aligners, clean your teeth, and pop them back into your mouth. Cleaning the Invisalign is also possible! Remove the trays and clean with your toothbrush to ensure there is no buildup. It's essential to maintain oral hygiene when straightening your teeth so you can smile your brightest at the end of the Invisalign Treatment!
5.No Food Restrictions:
One of the most frustrating parts of teeth straightening with Metal Braces is the food restrictions. When you use conventional ways to straighten your teeth, you will be unable to eat various foods.
Example: Hard Taco Shells, Pretzels, Popcorns, Nuts, Gums, Hard Cookies
Anything that is excessively hard, chewy, or sticky is forbidden too!
Nevertheless, Invisalign is unaffected by these concerns. Fortunately, you can eat whatever you want with Invisalign. Remove the trays and eat as much as you like! Just remove your Invisalign Teeth Aligners before you dig into your food.
What will be the Treatment Process?
Step 1: At My Gentle Dentist, we will start with the Invisalign Treatment with a consultation. Your Dentist will examine your teeth and chalk out a customised Digital Treatment Plan, which will show how your smile will change over time.
Step 2: If you choose to move forward with the Invisalign Treatment, a series of 3D digital impressions will be taken.
Step 3: The images created with the help of 3D imprints are submitted to the Invisalign laboratories. Next, a unique set of trays will be made by the team there for you. Depending on the severity of the misalignment, the number of trays in each patient's series will vary.
Step 4: Patients are required to return to our Dental Clinic to pick up their trays, and the procedure will be illustrated to you by your Dentist.
Step 5: You'll wear each set of aligners for 20- 22 hours every day, changing them every 1 to 2 weeks as suggested by your Dentist. According to your Invisalign Treatment plan, each set of aligners will softly and gradually push your teeth into place until you get your new smile.
What is the cost of Invisalign Treatment?
The cost of Invisalign Treatment in Australia range from $4,000 -$7,000. Kindly note, Invisalign is an orthodontic procedure whose price varies from case to case.
Nevertheless, there are several ways to make Invisalign more economical for you.

How to clean Invisalign?
Got your custom-made Invisalign Teeth Aligners fitted by your Orthodontist but have zero knowledge regarding how to clean them properly? Don't worry!
It is super easy, and it will become part and parcel of your oral hygiene routine in no time.
1.Clean The Aligners Twice Daily:
Since you will be wearing the aligners for a prolonged period, it is crucial to clean your Invisalign Teeth Aligners twice a day, once in the morning and before hitting the bed at night. Make it a habit to clean them with a soft toothbrush using an antibacterial denture cleanser or home-based remedies. It is better to keep a separate toothbrush for your aligners because using your regular toothbrush can leave behind small particles on them. Before fixating the aligners inside your mouth, rinse it with lukewarm water. Avoid using boiling water because the heat can distort the shape of your aligners.
2. Remove The Aligners Before Eating/ Drinking:
Never forget to remove the Aligners before indulging in a meal. Otherwise, tartar and plaque can grow on the surface and leave behind stains. Besides, there's a high chance that your aligners can crack while chewing sticky/hard/chewy food.
3.Keep Your Aligners In A Retainer Case:
Taking out your Aligner before eating/drinking and misplacing them is a common occurrence. Additionally, leaving them out in the open can lead to the accumulation of bacteria. Thus, always store your aligners in an orthodontic retainer case to keep them safe and squeaky clean.
4. Regularly Soak The Aligners:
To keep your Aligners smelling their best, make it a practice to regularly soak them in Invisalign's cleaning crystals or other home-based solutions for a minimum of 10-15 minutes. Avoid dissolving the cleaning crystals/ home-based solution in piping-hot water. The Aligners can get damaged due to the heat and affect your teeth-straightening treatment.
Post-sterilization, rinse the Aligners with cold water to wash away any remnants of the solution.

Trevor, black pug on the left, 6 month old puppy, has become one of those pugs whose tongue is always sticking out. I think it's cute. He has a HUGE underbite as well so it does serve to hide that. ON the right is his mom, Gabby, and they are both resting their heads on husband and father, Boomer and he is sleeping on "B". Pugs are exceptional cuddlers. ANother phone image, so not very good but I post so seldom these days, didn't think you'd care.
As usual, the black dogs are difficult to see in any image.
— Meet ARMANDO! —
ARMANDO is a 4-year old male, neutered, 14-pound Chihuahua/Dachshund/Miniature Pinscher mix. He was rescued from the Redlands Animal Shelter after being picked up as a stray. He has a short, easy to care for coat, a unique pink stripe on his nose, and the cutest little underbite! These photos don't do this cutie justice.
This darling little boy is very shy and must to be adopted by a family who will continue to socialize him slowly. He is timid around strangers, especially men, but warms up to everyone with time. Once he gets to know you, he'll be your loyal velcro buddy for sure.
ARMANDO is crate trained, walks okay on a leash, rides well in the car, and is working on his house training skills. He gets along well with other small dogs and gentle children over the age of 8. He will make a perfect addition to one very lucky family.
Could it be with you?
ARMANDO is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and micro chipped. Come meet ARMANDO and I guarantee that you'll fall in love with this sweetheart.

The Boxer is a breed of medium-sized, short-haired dogs developed in Germany. Their coat is smooth and tight-fitting; colors are fawn or brindled, with or without white markings, which may cover the entire body, and white. Boxers are brachycephalic (they have broad, short skulls), have a square muzzle, mandibular prognathism (an underbite), very strong jaws, and a powerful bite ideal for hanging on to large prey. The Boxer was bred from the Old English Bulldog and the now extinct Bullenbeisser, and is part of the Molosser group. The Boxer is a member of the Working Group.[4]
Boxers were first exhibited in a dog show for St. Bernards in Munich in 1895, the first Boxer club being founded the next year. Based on 2013 American Kennel Club statistics, Boxers held steady as the seventh most popular breed of dog in the United States for the fourth consecutive year.[5]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxer_%28dog%29
