Western Brook Pond - Gros Morne National Park
Always learning something new...I had never heard of Ulta Oligotrophic until visiting Western Brook Pond.
Information quoted below is taken from signs at Western Brook Pond, Gros Morne National Park.
"When you peer into the depths of this lake you see nothing. Scientists describe the waters of Western Brook Pond as ultra oligotrophic. This term comes from Greek words meaning "very low in nutrients". Although oxygen rich, the pond's cold waters support only a few slow-growing plants and animals.
One of the Purest Lakes in the World
Most of this water comes from clear, cold, mountain streams. Resistant bedrock, a small drainage basin, sparse plant cover, and limited human use give Western Brook Pond some of the purest water on the planet.
Resistant bedrock: The granitic rock of the Long Range plateau erodes slowly, producing very little sediment. So the water of the pond contains only low levels of the nutrients required by plants. Small drainage basin: More than twenty streams empty into the pond, but many are small and flow only in spring. The area drained by these streams is tiny compared to the volume of water in the pond.
Sparse plant cover: Glaciers left the top of the Long Range a rolling landscape of rock barrens, tundra, and alpine forest. The thin plant cover adds little organic matter to colour or cloud the water.
Limited human influence: The pond's wilderness setting has spared it from pollution by agriculture, settlement, and industry. Until the 1970s there were no permanent facilities here.
Neutral pH: This is not an acidic lake, even though some of its streams drain bogs, and natural rainwater is slightly acidic (about pH 5.6). Water from Stag Brook, the largest feeder stream, is buffered by limestone bedrock and keeps the pH of the pond approximately neutral."
Big but Fragile
All across Canada, national parks strive to protect wild places from development and economic exploitation. Western Brook Pond is just one feature of our natural heritage that must be preserved forever for Canadians to enjoy. But pressure from increasing use makes it vitally important that each of us help to preserve the pond's beauty and purity.
Slow flushing: The pond is particularly sensitive to pollution. Its only outlet is Western Brook, and it takes about 15 years for the water in the pond to be completely changed
Wind-stirred water: It looks as though pollution here would drain out the brook to the sea. However, strong winds mix the surface waters, and any pollution will spread throughout the pond.
Last of its kind: This is one of the last wild, ultra oligotrophic lakes in the world. Once lost, it can never be replaced."

“We wanderers, ever seeking the lonelier way, begin no day where we have ended another day; and no sunrise finds us where sunset left us.”- Kahlil Gibran
Very true in this instance for yours truly. This awesome, unexpected, fiery sunrise was in another land to that of the smooth, liquid, sunset I had left, before it.

Footnote: In arising, of course, the sun symbolises renewed and everlasting life, as well as light, warmth, and hope, increasingly needed in these testing times, where truth is light.

weather wasn’t going my way but I was determined to make something of the shoot so I reached for the black glass and turned an otherwise interesting scene into a very minimal ulta-long exposure one.

Urban Decay Friends and Family is once again upon us, and of course, I had to make an order. First, I discovered that I did not own any of the Baked-family colors, which I was surprised at since I'm a sucker for browns lately. I got the Get Baked palette, which came with a little Sin primer potion (cute!) and also a 24/7 liner in Bourbon. I also got a Kirk Pocket Rocket Gloss, Flipside 24/7 liner, and Naked lipstick, all which look true to their colors in the tube.
One lonely purchase at Ulta: Smashbox Oyster eyeshadow.
At Sephora, I picked up some nail polishes: NARS Tokaido Express, SOPI Mermaid to Order and SOPI Ocean Love Potion. Mermaid to Order is absolutely stunning, I must give it that.

I have very little experience with landscape photography, so this vacation was a good chance to practice. Here's the beach taken with the ulta-wide angle 10-20mm Sigma on 10mm. The water really is that color-- a wonderful shade of blue, and its so clear you can see down 30 feet.
For some great landscape photography, be sure to check out Andrew Houser.

Thanks for all the comments. If you have any suggestions on how to improve a beach shot please let me know. The main thing that bothers me about this is it seems a little less than sharp, and I'm not sure if its the lens, an artifact of a longish exposure, or something I've done in setting up the shot. I *was* careful to use a remote to trigger the exposure.
This was taken at dusk, so the sky was dark, and I did have a graduated ND filter with me, but don't know if it was used on this particular shot. From the look of it, I'd say yes, but it was fairly dark. I tried coming back another day for shots when it was completely dark, but the wind was blowing so hard the camera was shaking on the tripod. Also, I don't have a watch which can time the long exposures in the dark :-(
I not only had the pleasure of hearing Thomas perform again at Ulta a couple of months ago, but had the opportunity to meet his lovely wife, Colette, who's music I have admired for some time. Check out her site if you are not familiar with her cool DJ style www.djcolette.com
She has an awesome voice and sings over the music she is spinning. Very cool!
Sick time means time to do my nails (I have to actually keep my nails "done" now, to keep with the whole professional appearance thing). The brown polish is kind of different... being so metallic and gold kind of mitigates the brown (color is "caramel mocha" from ULTA). A surprising thumbs up.

My newest FigSpit, the Bolt!
A super energized Soviet soldier, capable of running at near the speed of light and producing electromagnetic/electric bolts.
Backstory: Maxim (Max) Turgenev was a Russian maintenance man for the Soviet Union's greatest weapon: An electromagnetic super generator - capable of reversing entire mountains to simple electrons.
On a cold and stormy winter night in 1957, Max was called in to start up the generator, as the circuits had blown thanks to a lightning strike. Donning a special suit to protect himself from the dangerous electric currents, Max stepped into the generator. Thunder crackled overhead as he carefully repaired wires. Suddenly, in a blinding flash of blue, the wires turned to flames as energy from a lightning bolt surged through the generator. Max was hurled into the air as the electromagnetic fields switched on and converged; with Max in the center. The air sizzled as the very oxygen in the room disintegrated. And just as soon as it began, it stopped. The scorched corpse of Maxim Turgenev slumped to the floor with a thud.
Two days later, in the deserted ward of a secretive Russian military compound, and against the very rules of science, Max wakes up from a coma. He screams in agony, as every particle in his body vibrates at near the speed of light. Energy crackles at his fingertips and through every nerve in his body. The Bolt is born.
Hope you liked this FigSpit!
I spent way more time n this backstory than I should have.
Stay healthy.

Took this photo while I was doing a morning stroll down at the Queen Sirikit park, which has a marvelous scenery down the lake.
==================
Queen Sirikit Park is a botanical garden in Chatuchak district, Bangkok, Thailand. Covering an area of 0.22 km², it is part of the larger Chatuchak Park complex. It was built in 1992 and named after Queen Sirikit to celebrate her 60th birthday. It contains many fountains and pools where lotus flowers bloom. The park can be reached easily from the Mo Chit Station on Sukhumvit Line of the BTS Skytrain, or the Chatuchak Park Station on the MRT Blue Line.

And I've used a Hoya CPL filter to drop two stops of light for elongating the exposure.
And I forgot to say, this shot is a blending of multi-exposures due to shadow casting on the buildings the reflections didn't blend perfectly, but I still got a reasonable result .. I've got to say it took too much time to handle it ..
