It had been windy again all day and it was sunset time at sea. Dark clouds gathered in the sky and it started to rain heavily. The rain drenched me, my camera and my faithful dog. Fortunately, it stopped for a while, so I was able to photograph the stormy sea and white-headed waves as the sun set behind dark clouds. The rain started again and the thunder rumbled. I'm afraid of lightning. Helmi is sitting next to me completely soaked. Ok let's go, I told her. We ran to the camper and the sweet heat gradually dried us both out.
UKKO ( Riku karjalainen, time-laps of thunder and lightning in Finland )
I've been chasing thunderstorms all summer with no luck in Finland but turns out patience is a virtue and it paid off. Captured in Hailuoto, Finland.
Hiking in Ticino. Intentionally "wrong" white balance settings to make the photo match what I felt. Cropped, no other editing. Explore September 1, 2021 (#175). Thank you very much for your views, faves and comments - I am honored!

This one stroke just on the other side of the street. Quite a nice bang it had. Luckily the tree didn't catch fire. Taken from my balcony.
Cropped this from the larger photo. And for the viewers, I took a LARGE amount of photos today when trying to get some of the lightning over here.
The photo made the first page in the local newspaper. I'll take a photo of the paper and posted here later. And that has been done now.
This lightning has been confirmed by the lightning radar and is part of a scientific research publication. I'll publish the link to the paper when it has become available to the public.
This is as real as it gets, the only two things done to this photo are:
1) cropping
2) noise reduction
Update regarding the trees - they have been taken down now.
Update: This photo is considered to be among the top 10 photos in Flickr
A charged Wednesday night testing how fast I can press the shutter... Heavy thunderstorms are typical in Central Switzerland at this time of the year. These are all hand-held, I did not want to leave to get the tripod. Cropped, no other editing.
We had a short, but very nice and strong thunderstorm tonight, Out of some 200 shots with exposure lenghts from 2,5 to 25 seconds four hit a lightning. This one's the best.
I know it's not perfect, but it's mine!

Finland (à land Islands) / Sweden: Dark clouds above Märket lighthouse, part 4. My fourth day on the small lighthouse island in the Baltic Sea at the border between Finland and Sweden was dominated by spectacular cloud formations and extreme weather conditions from bright sunshine to heavy downpour and thunder. Clouds like these are called mammatus clouds.

Finnish bus dealer Ukkonen donated this bus to Ukraine. It was also full of humanitarian aid boxes. A friend of mine claimed that he saw two Lahti Eagles in PƤrnu a couple of hours later but I don't know where the second one (probably āLKI-773) could've come from

Typical thunder storm after a humid and hot summer day in Finland. Me and my family were having a barbeque on the balcony when the storm hit. The storm was over in like 30 minutes. This picture was taken on Saturday, July 23rd.
Shot with Nikon D7000 using Tokina 11-16mm @ 11mm. I used continuous exposures of 1/6 seconds with f/11 and ISO100. About every 100th frame had one or more lightning strikes in it.
