Bratislava Castle (Slovak: Bratislavský hrad) is the landmark of the Slovak capital, Bratislava, also called Pressburg Castle. Panoramic view from the UFO Tower at a height of 95 meters.
Got around to watching the latest Grand Tour, another brainless episode from three dimwits I wouldn't want to meet in person but is nostalgic entertainment about something I love: driving. I digress.
Anyway, they drove through eastern Europe and across the UFO Bridge in Bratislava. That short sequence reminded me of this panoramic image sitting on a HDD unloved and lonely. The truth about Bratislava is that it's a wonderful wee city but is still off the radar for so many in the west.
The Capital has an incredible history that I won't go into here but suffice to say it's rich. And as this image shows, the city has so much more going for it than the touristy Old Town.

I had to get back up to the UFO Tower one last time. The last time I was in Bratislava the weather was poor AND I found out when I got home that my shots from the top were out of focus. Double whammy. Thankfully, this time the conditions were much better and I remembered to focus!
At 95 metres high, it's a fantastic view of the region.

Jean-Michel Jarre played a free concert for 100 000 people in Bratislava May 12 2024. The event was to mark the opening of the Starmus festival. Brian May joined him on stage for several tunes. It was a beautiful gig!

One of the most iconic features of modern-day Bratislava is the Novy Most, or "New Bridge." This modern thoroughfare connects the two halves of the city separated by the river Danube. Since 2012, the official name of the bridge was changed to "Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising" to commemorate the Slovak National Uprising against Nazi during World War II, but locals prefer to call it "UFO Bridge" for its UFO-shaped observation desk at the top.
The Novy Most was built between 1967 and 1972. The total length of the bridge is 1,413 feet or 430 meters. It is an asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge made of steel. It is the world's longest bridge that has only one pylon with one cable-stayed plane. One of the best features of the bridge is that the lower levels are reserved for pedestrian and bicycle traffic only.
