The structure seen in this image is called Jag Mandir. Jag Mandir is a palace built on an island in the Lake Pichola. It is also called the "Lake Garden Palace". The palace is located in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. This photo is taken at the evening time from the famous park called as Sunset Park(Originally: Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Park). It was a peaceful evening.The park is just at the entrance of City Palace. This place is the most popular attraction for the tourists. Jag Mandir or Lake Garden Palace is now a upscale hotel in a 17th-century island palace with stylish dining, lake views, a spa & a museum. Boat service is available for tourists to visit Jag Mandir from The Sunset Garden(Park).

For over a hundred years Jag Mandir has served as the main pleasure palace of the Sisodia rulers. During the rule of Maharana Sangram Singh II (1716-34) his son Jagat Singh II had asked permission for a sojourn at Jag Mandir but for reasons best known to the father the young prince was refused. On the other hand the adjacent island was given up for the prince’s personal use. Pavilions of the palace were constructed before 1734 and after his coronation Gadi Rana Jagat Singh II (1734-1751) further expanded the marble water palace. Jagat Singh II named the palace, Jag Niwas, also known as the Lake Palace, after himself. The palace faces east, allowing its inhabitants to pray to the Sun god at the crack of dawn.

Shooting portraits was so different in India than in Ghana. Everyone is so used to seeing cameras and most people have their own cameras or camera phones. Also in such a touristy place as Udipur I would imagine people are annoyed with lenses always being pointed at them. This woman asked for a portrait.
Having some technical difficulties with the fist memory card I shot in India but I am working on it. Shot four cards in 1 months so I am starting with the middle of my trip. Here goes the beginning of lots and lots of uploads to come.
