Once a Throstle cotton mill, during the Industrial Revolution, prior to being restored to become part of the Unversity of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) campus.

The Throstle frame was a descendant of the water frame. It used the same principles, was better engineered and driven by steam.

See below for how the mill appeared in 2009, prior to restoration. It had suffered decades of neglect and was fire-damaged. The building sits on the banks of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal

The Sandygate pedestrian footbridge (opened in 2012) over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal , constructed from glass and corten, links the new UCLAN buildings with re-purposed mill buildings (The Weavers' Triangle) by the side of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

On the right is a new accommodation block for Burnley students at UCLAN (Universirty of Central Lancashire). On the left is Slater Terrace - a unique combination of a mill, chimney and also attached accommodation for the mill workers.
