Eisenbahnfähre über den Köhlbrand, die Fähre fuhr von 1912 - 1973 - historisches Motiv aus dem Hamburger Stadtteil Waltershof, Bezirk Hamburg Mitte. Quelle: www.historische-bilder.com Steinwerder wurde im Mittelalter eingedeicht und konnte somit bewirtschaftet werden. Durch den Gottorfer Vertrag kam die Insel 1768 gemeinsam mit den Pachthöfen Grevenhof, Ellerholz und Roß an Hamburg. Am Reiherstieg entstanden seit den 1840er Jahren die ersten Werften auf Steinwerder. Dort wurden in den 1850er Jahren auch die ersten Trocken- und Schwimmdocks auf Hamburger Staatsgebiet errichtet. Nachdem die Siedlung 1871 zum Vorort erhoben worden war, wurde Steinwerder 1894 als Stadtteil nach Hamburg eingemeindet. Als reines Hafengebiet hat Hamburg Steinwerder keine Einwohner und eine Gesamtfläche von 10,4 km².

And that, as they say, is that!
No onion will ever beat me in layers (there's 365 of them, go ahead and count!)
The job's done, I'm finished and, frankly, I am very glad it's over.
Over the year, I've learned a lot on photography and had the thorough pleasure to share my shenanigans with a very faithful audience of friends, family and the occasional erroneous visitor. Though this was, in the first place, a project intent to improve myself, your welcome comments made it worthwhile.
A special thanks goes to all my friends who've helped me by posing and enduring my incessant and irritating suggestions of where that hand and that foot needs to go. Thank you a thousand times for your appendages!
I also learned that, If I am challenged, I can be quite persistent and almost dogged in my projects. Something I for one wouldn't have thought. A good suggestion to anyone, wanting to try a similar project: be prepared for some serious teeth grinding and frustration. But never forget that it is worth it all the way!
And so... What is next? Does the blog die with the old year? Guess again! The 'A photo a day'-idea will be put down like a mangy dog. But for me as an enthousiast, this year was only the beginning. While the last few months may have been lacking in photographic excellence this is not due to lackluster photographing. Quite the opposite... Look for a cool announcement tomorrow on the blog of what the future will bring.
And so, for today, there's little left to do than to party like it's 1999 (now already 11 years overdue!) and wish you all a very happy new year.
