Bayonne Tram'bus

Since May 2021, two tram'bus lines have been running. The T1 between Bayonne, Anglet and Biarritz, the T2 from Tarnos to Bayonne.

Line T1

Over 12 km, it serves 31 stations, some of which are named in Gascon, others in Basque: FĂČrum, Museoak, Joandin, Balishon, MaubĂšc... It is in application of the principle recommended by the reference organizations in terms of toponymy, the National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information (IGN) and the National Commission of Toponymy (CNT), that these stations have been spelled while respecting the spelling of their original language. Locally, these recommendations are taken up by the Academy of the Basque Language (Euskaltzaindia) and the Permanent Congress of the Occitan Language, which are our main partners and scientific guarantors in terms of linguistic and toponymic validation.

To facilitate intermodal transport, a park and ride facility is in place in Hauts de Bayonne, near the Navarre shopping center, as well as in Tarnos and Anglet.

Line T2

Inaugurated in May 2021, this second Tram'bus line connects Tarnos (Landes) and Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). Like the T1 line, launched in September 2019, it is operated with electric articulated buses. During the day, buses on the T2 line stop every 15 minutes. The southern terminus of the T2 line in its current configuration is located in Bayonne Marrac. By the end of 2023, the line will have an additional 2 km and will go to the southern edge of Bayonne, beyond the A63 motorway. The future terminus, located along the RD932, will be equipped with a park and ride.

The impressive Town Hall of Bayonne (La Mairie or L'HĂŽtel de Ville) is located at the intersection of the Nive and Adour Rivers. It was built in 1843 in neoclassical style and was originally home to the customs office. The six statues on the roof represent the economic and artistic activities of the city.

Apart from the town hall, the building also houses a theatre and a café with a nice terrace in the square in front of the building.
