A look back to winter's beginning from the long dead files. Winter's first snow at the Independence Mine, now a park. in Hatchers Pass. Thanks for looking not too summery, so may your day be cool!

This image was taken BEFORE the boardwalk bollard lights switched on for the evening.

Striving to be creative with my presentations, I lined up the extremely bright setting sun directly behind the fixture to produce the effect of an electric source.

Evening twlight behind the Christian Quarter of the Old City in Jerusalem on a bright late November morning. Dominating the shot are the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on the right and the German Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on the left.

Like these rooftop views of Jerusalem? Why not stay in the Ecce Homo Pilgrim House when you visit, and you can enjoy photographing them too.

I'd hoped to catch the sunset over the lake but just missed it.

It's 16.30pm very cold and still air - outside temperature now 0C. I was en route home from Snowdon's Watkin Path that starts half a mile distant in Nant Gwynant at the head of the lake directly opposite.

However, when I noticed these beautiful reflections I simply had to stop.

Llyn Gwynant in the Snowdonia National Park, Gwynedd, North West Wales is a glacial lake surrounded by the impressive slopes of Gallt y Wenallt 619m (2,030ft) starting middle far right. The lake is noted for its stunning reflections when calm - this being just one example.

In comparison, other reflection images of this beautiful lake can be found within my Snowdonia National Park Album.

The Sun has set and the Floodlights are illuminated an image from the archives.

Trees in evening twlight by the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal just outside Devizes.

The last bit of light before night returns.

These two postings are from the archives, but I couldn't think of a better way of sending out the old year, bringing in the new, except with a beautiful sunset. I just love sunsets....and particularly those that are over a body of water! How beautiful is that?! I hope you've had a wonderful year....and the new year is filled with an abundance of blessings!

Hard to believe this was actually 10 years ago! My how time flies! Hope you all enjoy!

Lost Light – I was out shooting the storm last night and styed until dark to shoot long exposers of the clouds moving. The sun has set about 45 minutes before I took this shot and the sky had been dark for a while when these clouds started to glow in the east like it got lost during sunset. I decided grab some of the light in my shot. It was too dark to focus my camera, so I put my flashlight on the foreground rock and focused on it.

The technical – Nikon D810 Tamron 10-15mm at 21mm f/2.8 for 465 seconds. Processed in Lightroom.

I was in the area of southeastern US for the past week and when there I always make it a point to visit both areas at sunrise and sunset.

There are two beach areas which are great for sunrise shooting and sunsets. The trick is to time it so that the tide is well out around sunrise...which isn't easy, as the shooting at the right exposure to produce that nice swishing water around these trees produces one incredible photo after another.

Though my luck wasn't with me with regards to the tide at the right time I still had some great pre-sunrise light which I was real happy with.

I plan to conduct a two day photography "Meetup" here in March 2023. It will include arriving early to photograph the Milky Way rising above the ocean and the tree(s) as I accent the tree with what is called "LLL" or low level lighting.

I you are interested in attending this please email me at wrtrekker@yahoo.com or contact me via Messenger on Facebook. See the link below to my Facebook page.

Eagle Rock – It wasn’t as much of a sunset as I would like. It ended up being kind of gloomy, so I did some exploring to find new locations. I came across this formation during the twilight hour when there was just enough light in the horizon to light up the hills. Standing back, I though this looked like eagle head. I am absolutely coming back to this location for more photos.

The Technical – Shot on a Nikon D810 paired with a Tamron 15-30. Exposure: f/18 ISO:64 188sec. In my mind I saw this photo as a long exposure with the clouds streaking like they would with a flying eagle. It was dark enough with a normal exposure gave me a few second exposure but that wasn’t long enough to get the streaks I wanted so I slipped on my Lee 6-stopper and change the exposure set my camera to bulb and counted off about 3 minutes. This gave me the clouds I liked and kept the little bit of light still under control. Getting back to Lightroom I was disappointed because normally my camera has little to no sensor noise up to 30-40 minutes but this one had tons of noise at just 3 minutes. I edited it anyway for exposure and warm it a little. I then found a tutorial to reduce noise in Photoshop using the scratch and noise removal filter. It worked like magic. I saved it back to Lightroom and it was ready to go.
