From my days on the other side of the camera. It didn't last long, and the hair was a major pain.
This is a crappy scan because I have no idea what happened to the original.
It’s at times such as this she’d be tempted to spit

Good friday arrived, the sky darkened on time

So she finds that the mixture is hard to deny

Got a new camera last night - a Diana F+. It's one of the plastic "toy cameras" that's become all the rage for the interesting effects caused by their simple design and low quality. Oh no, am I going to start collecting cameras now? Well, at least this one cost less than the tax on a 50D. ;-)
Shout out to flickr friend, Twinmama, whose cool vintage shots done with toy cameras got me interested in the first place.

And I was slightly obnoxious. Oh it started off nice and friendly. Emphasis on friendly. I was in one of my "Everyone is BEAUTIFUL" moods and "Oh My God I LOVE You Man" moods.
And I'm nothing if not sincere, but even I can look back at that and go "oh my god, Marya, why was your mouth still moving?? And I consider how famous the person who invents Real Life TIVO will be, especially if it comes with an erase function. And a "please do not buy this girl another drink" function. And an elixir called the "oh my aching head and soul function" for the next day. Ugh.
People, I do love you. And I apologize for the volume with which I expressed it. Jeez!
Plus side: I got to meet some flickr peeps! This was before my blood alcohol level hit through the roof (thank the lord). Angela and Susan -- it was super fun and I hope we do it again. But next time I vote we don't include a quick little trip to McCarthy's. :)
This is a detail from a painting of a koi pond that Jolene did as a birthday present for her mother, Marta. It was to eventually turn into a floor piece under a homemade fountain that Marta constructed for her apartment in Louisville. Jolene tacked up the canvas on the back of the cabin we were staying in during our visit to Kentucky last year, and painted like a madwoman for a few days straight. The entire process was amazing to watch, and the result was truly impressive.
I don't think I have ever met a more gifted artist, honestly. Jolene paints, sketches, sculpts, quilts, weaves, carves, makes jewelry, works in fabrics and textiles, photography.....and.....she can sing, play the sax, perform stand-up comedy, and conjure up Photoshop magic like no one's business.
I may be a depressed, anxiety-plagued, unemployed momma's boy with low self-esteem and debt problems, but hell....I ain't stupid. I know enough to hitch my wagon to a star when I see one! Ha!
Do yourself a favor and check out her newly re-designed website when you get the chance too. It's chock full o' groovy stuff.
And by the way, if you are fortunate enough to get the Style Network on your cable TV system, Jolene will be one of the featured contestants on this Thursday's "Craft Corner Deathmatch" game show. Watch her work some serious crafting mojo against a worthy opponent, as her daughter and I cheer her on from the sidelines.

The husband thinks I look insane in this one. Maybe that's why it's one of my favorites.

ADDA went to THE fun party for flickr it was their 5th birthday party, & even though last year's really ROCKED...this year was nice...not too many people so one was able to mingle and chat...and eat TONS OF THE WONDERFUL CUPCAKES...
afterwards headed to VAL& ETIENNES place....
along the way, ADDA comes across the FLICKR PIN-UP GAL...DOTTIE BOTTIE...who is purchasing a bottle of wine for her NEXT party...she is a party girl as we all know...i made sure the clerk gave her change...and then asked for her arm to walk her across the street and catch a cab...we approached the PALACE HOTEL and I asked the doorman for a cab...
he wistled for one, and DOTTIE BOTTIE got into the cab after giving ADDA a sweet kiss of appreciation....ADDA tipped the doorman and continued his way home
well, there was FREE DRINKS at the FLICKR fliparty...so after 3 BIG BEERS...needless to say, I missed my bus stop trying to get to my destination...VAL & ETIENNE's home to feed their kitties
luckily one knows, if the VAN NESS BUS is turning...its ones turn to get off the bus...so, i get out only to come face to face with a raccoon...oh my....so, i did the natural thing...whip out my camera and take a photo...then like the movie THE BIRDS...i see a classroom of kids heading towards us....I told them to becareful of the raccoon, and a silence and then ohhs and ahhs came up the kids...the raccoon skidded away...the kids on their way with a fun encounter, and i headed to VAL & ETIENNES...
i get to the apartment and open the door...its pitch black...and i climb up the stairs....there at the top is beautiful SIMBA waiting...I find the light switch...and CLICK...the light go on...to expose the CRIME SCENE..
there in the living room...sprawled on the hardwood floors...
are PARIS books scattered about...with the bookcase doors open wide....and KIKI's food dish balancing on the edge....
well, just who broke into the closed bookcase and tried to get the FOOD DISH out....

Once I started the process, it didn't take long to remember why I hadn't done a henna treatment in over a decade: It stains like hell. It's semi-stinky. It's INCREDIBLY messy. But if you can get through all that, your reward is no awful grow-line...it washes out very nicely and gradually, and makes your hair very soft.
This muñeca is too adorable with her pig tails and gorgeous eyes, a true doll.
Muñeca means doll in Spanish and is commonly used to describe the natural beauty of little girls. I knew I had to design a Muñeca tee for the Spanglish Collection. I call Ella muñeca about 100 times a day lol. Boy moms: the male version would be muñeco!

I went to one of only two high schools in California that are on the beach. For PE we would have to run from our high school to the rock and back. For Track we'd run to Cayucos. Our cross-country course took the runners through sand dune after sand dune and was really grueling. But damn it was beautiful.
