In some places, time seems to have stopped. As if even a single particle changes, all silence is broken. Mardin; is a blend of cultures that have reached the present day without being spoiled in its special location extending from Anatolia to Mesopotamia, settled in the soil as if it were processed by the hand of nature. If you want to be enchanted, visit Mardin!
Mardin, a unique southeastern city with a rich history where religions, sects, traditions and customs are blended, and an impressive beauty that extends as far as the eye can see from the hill it is built on.
It is understood from the excavations and research that the city was founded in 4500-3500 BC, the time of the Subaris who lived in Mesopotamia. The first known name of Mardin province, which was a sanjak center affiliated to the Diyar-ı Bekr province during the Ottoman Period, was "Marida". The name of the city in Syriac was "Marde", while it was called "Mardin" by the Arabs and Turks.
Located on the historical Silk Road, Mardin today has many inns and caravanserais, mosques, shrines, churches, monasteries, etc. that have existed for centuries and reflect the characteristics of the period they were built, and that are valuable both in terms of religion and art, increasing the cultural richness of the region. Mardin, which has started to attract the attention of not only our country but also the whole world in recent years, is included in the UNESCO "World Heritage Temporary List" with "Mardin Cultural Landscape" (2000) and "Zeynel Abidin Mosque and Mor Yakup Church" (2014).
If you happen to be in Mardin; it means you are in a fairy-tale city that embraces different languages and different religions, smells of history as if it came out of the Middle Ages, dominates the Mesopotamian plain, and has its own unique flavors.
