three processes acting together, a Turing instability, a flow like a compressible liquid, and inflation... the trick seems to be in adjusting the strengths of the processes so that one doesn't dominate... hours of fun adjusting parameters!

 

Coloured regions form and flow, each colour is also a direction and a speed.

Working on a different "genetic representation" for the rules for these things, trying to make them more evolvable. This is a 2nd generation of selection "individual", looking promising. I've got gene linkage now, so complex traits are more likely to survive recombination.

grown from 2 random pixel values in a homogenous sea of zeros, there seems to be more coherent large scale structure...
