This ATR-42 600, with special propellors, is owned by Amakusa Airlines.

Her registration is JA01AM with constructionnumber 1202.

This company is linking Amakusa to Fukuoka and Kumamoto. It is owned by the municipal government (80% stake) and Japan Airlines.

This time we caught her in pouring rain at Kagoshima International Airport.

Was taken in Frunze-Aviation Museum in Moscow. It`s a mock-up cockpit from the Buran BTS-002. The BTS-002, which now is in Speyer-Technik-Museum was an atmospheric test glidder with turbojets AL-21, was not space suiteable ! The original BURAN did not have turboengines and was located in Baikonur!

The Vickers Vanguard in developement had several types of turboprop engines.

Finally before delivery she got Rolls-Royce Tyne engines with a new design, nominal 4,000 hp/3,000 kW (as compared to the Viscount's Dart of about 1,700 hp/1,300 kW).

These four engines gave the Vanguard a much higher service ceiling and cruising speed then her younger sister the Viscount. The Vanguard had a service ceiling almost twice that of the Viscount and was one of the fastest turboprops. Even it was faster than the Saab 2000 or the Havilland Canada Dash 8 of these days.

Off course she had to compete with the jets finally.

Interesting to see this analog cockpit for three people, comparing to modern airliners with all their displays. This cockpit gave seats to two pilots a flight engineer and one spare seat.

This picticular Vickers Vanguard G-APEP, started life in September 1961 with British European Airways.

All Vanguards of BEA received names of Royal Navy warships.

After ten years as a full pax aircraft in mix classes 18+29, or full pax 139, it was converted in 1971 as a freighter.

BEA called these Vanguard freighters Merchantman.

She flew again for British Aircraft division till November 1979.

After being stored at Midlands she was bought in 1981 by EAS and flew finally many years for Air Bridge Cargo before being donates to the Brooklands Museum in Weybridge.

There she landed safely October 17th, 1996, the place where she started life as well 35 years before.

How practical and easy to make the choice of landing on ice or concrete when you consider the landing gear!

Very practical it is in Canadian upnorth Yellowknife.
