The Circa 1899 three span Pratt through truss bridge over the Cedar River in Cedar Falls Iowa. This bridge is used now by the Canadian National and the Iowa Northern Railways and has seen everything from large steam engines to the most modern diesel electric locomotives

Sorting through some old shots I haven't really edited before.

10/2022 - I'm not sure how long it's been since a train actually ran here, but the crossings are marked for the modern day D&RG RR.

Aerial oblique view of the steel truss bridge (1961) spanning the Goulburn River at Sandy Hollow, about 150 km northwest of Newcastle, NSW. The river is practically dry after a prolonged drought.

A quick trip to Louisville led to exploring and taking pictures. We rolled into town just in time for the sunset along the river.

The Harlem – 125th Street Metro-North Railroad station serves residents of the West Harlem neighborhood (a.k.a. Manhattanville) of Manhattan, New York and commuters who work in Harlem via the Hudson Line, Harlem Line and New Haven Line. It is the only station besides Grand Central Terminal that serves all three lines east of the Hudson River. Trains leave for Grand Central Terminal, the Bronx and the northern suburbs regularly. The station was built in 1896–97 and designed by Morgan O'Brien, New York Central and Hudson River Railroad principal architect. It replaced an earlier one that was built in 1874 when the New York Central and the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, the ancestors of today's Metro-North, moved the tracks from an open cut to the present-day elevated viaduct. The original station on the site was built in 1844, when the trains ran at grade-level on what is now Park Avenue. That station was demolished to make way for the open cut.

A six-year long renovation of the 1897 structure was completed in 1999 and cleared out a century's worth of neglect and deterioration. The entire Park Avenue viaduct was replaced piece-by-piece without disturbing Metro-North service for the duration of the renovation. The renovation is considered a replication, rather than renovation, of the original 1930s version of the station being that none of the original structure is visible to the public.

This is the Martin Luther King bridge which crosses the Mississippi River between Saint Louis, MO and Illinois USA. It’s a cantilever truss bridge. This was captured from the Eads bridge probably on the Illinois side of the river.

With her sanders apparently fixed, #488 takes off for Cumbres Pass and Osier lunch station.

(Sorry to say this no longer exists October 2020 this was cut down to make way for a modern dwelling) as of an old disused farm in the north west area of Derbyshire is set to become a block of new houses and barn conversions. I do hope that in some way they can keep the wooden truss work here in one of the old cow sheds

10/2022 - Navajo, NM

Abandoned tank and truss bridge at Navajo between Chama and Durango. This was pretty much as far as I could get driving west along the former DRGW, as the condition of the road went down hill fast. The next day of this trip, I was able to drive in from the other end to a point 9.9 miles from here. I could have gone at least a little bit farther but I lost the sun.

Down at Meaford Harbour today and saw these trusses up against a galvanized steel wall. My mind went completely black and white. I loved the texture in the wood and angles, as if they were racing to the top of the roof!

Moving on... Back in 2013, DRGW 278 and her companion freight cars were undergoing restoration nearby and were not yet placed back on the bridge. The 35-ton 1882 Baldwin 2-8-0 poses for a photo.

thanks to zev for shooting this.

We conclude our chase of the DREI Paris-Terre Haute turn with the bridge over the Wabash River. I have always wanted this shot but predictable eastbounds in the morning during Conrail eluded me. As for CSX here? Meh.

CSX train L071 crosses the Kennebec River at Fairfield first on a truss section, then a girder style as it heads for Northern Maine Junction.
