All the great spiritual Masters teach us, that we should live at the present moment , savoring all the Beauty of it, and be really grateful!... Well, I guess, I am not one of their good students….Cause many times I look back in anger, or sadness, or even with a sort of escaping-the-present attitude ; remembering, and trying to re-live some of my happiest moments….

During these moments we can share here, I was experiencing the Beauty of my beloved Lake Genval !! It was last Autumn, and I was TRULY happy!! And I was really savoring the gorgeous sunny, and colourful Beauty of it !….From moment to moment….

I must leave you now for a brief sojourn to recharge my batteries … Wish you all well x

“A loner by nature and an introvert... I am a twinkling star, burning bright amidst a cloudless night. As such, I tend to fade in and out of people's lives. This aspect of me is often misunderstood as rejection or a lack of love and caring. In reality, the only way I can survive as an introvert, is to drop from the sky, from time-to-time, recharging within the energizing landscape of my inner-universe. To love me, is to let me me have the space I need to illuminate the sky. I can't be taken hostage or held captive. Inner-light is what gives my star its twinkle.”

TRUE COLOURS – CYNDI LAUPER

A BEAUTIFUL MOMENT

Some may hurry; some may scurry

but others take their time

to stand still; take stock

and really be present in the moment

the white collar workers hurry on by

too busy to look up

their heads bent down avoiding eye contact

their finery blurred; without much definition

the observer looks behind him

to make sure he missed nothing

he is smart in his Sunday best togs

he is satisfied with the path he took

and looking back has no regrets

his journey will take him forwards

into a brighter tomorrow

leaving the past exactly where he left it

where it should be; behind him

the future is unknown for him and for all of us

but his spirits are buoyed up

and reflected in his true colours

bright and vibrant for all to see

nothing can dim the light for him

perhaps temporarily; a passing shadow

briefly blocks the light, but then it is gone

Don't wait for the light

be the light, this wise bird tells to me

don't wait in the dark; search for the light

but never give up without a fight

for you are the light

and you have the strength to fight for what is right

it is not always the easiest path that brings us joy

how can we learn if we remain unchallenged

this bird is innocent and has no knowledge of his fate

he is bred to end his brief life by the hand of man

from the moment he is freed from his man-made gate

but each year some escape this fate

and I look at his beautiful countenance

and wonder how anyone could take that from him

still there will be some who try

and he must keep a watchful eye

yet on this perfect day and in this perfect moment he and I

stand comfortably together

with no thought or knowledge of when we will die

just two souls intertwined within this single precious moment

and we are both content

as we both consent

to allow ourselves to be happy

and let the future take care of itself

yet briefly I find myself wishing

that this moment could last forever

for in this moment I have seen eternity

and what I see is beautiful

my eyes are filled with light, not outwardly

but emanating from behind these eyes that see so much

and I wait in hope that one day all will see

a single moment, such as this, for all eternity.

Please do read on ...

For the first time ever, a huge variety of vibrant, variegated, "fish-bone patterned" leaves have appeared on new growth in autumn.

Whatever next? "C'est dingue !" as the French would say.

Could it be¹ that an exceptionally warm and humid Indian summer following a long cold spell provoked new growth in a shrub that had already stopped producing chlorophyll in preparation for winter dormancy? A case of the right hand not knowing what the left one was doing!

This would have deprived the new leaves of their lush green chlorophyll pigment, essential for photosynthesis, allowing them to flaunt their true colours – the colours of autumn² while the old leaves gradually lose their lush green pigment to take on their own autumn colours.

Coincidentally, I posted a picture last year of an experiment I made to produce this very effect. You can see it here: It's called : "Before and after". The effect on this occasion was man-made and I was the man ;-) In my Christmassy edition above, the effect was entirely natural and Mother Nature was the author!

Except for the colours, the new foliage was like any other new foliage; fresh, soft and velvety to the touch. It was, however, very short-lived; only a matter of a couple of weeks with all the leaves, young and old alike, withering, dying and "falling" at the same time.

This particular bunch of leaves was about eight feet high and could only be seen and photographed by looking down on it from an upstairs window. Below, you can see a "ground-to-air" view of the plant as well as what happened to the same plant in early spring of this year though I fail to see any connection between the two phenomena.

The picture was taken after the rain, in situ and with 100% natural lighting. No special effects were used, just the usual very basic fine tuning; especially background darkening for that Christmassy look!

¹ I hasten to add that I am by no means an expert but I have done some research since the phenomenon occurred and my explanation is all I could come up with. If anyone out there can throw more light on the subject I would be very pleased indeed. You see, Old Mother Nature is keeping mum³ about the whole affair. ツ)

Directly picked from my backyard. Still lived and shot last July in darkness with only the light of some candles, a technique I frequently use for my Still Lives which allows me to obtain both chiaroscuro and truest colours, recalling the painting masters of antiquity.

Still Life at candlelight framed by a huge natural root (briar).

This is a different shot, taken frontally after having arranged the composition by displaying & balancing every single fruit and fitting them in the frame with no pedestals nor other tools.

I've been willing to frame with a natural briar my arrangement but, at the same time, to obtain a remarkable chiaroscuro and threedimensionality with the use of natural light (only candles in darkness) & the fruits protruding from the frame in different levels.

Image rotated 45° counterclockwise.

No cropping, no retouching nor heavy editing.

Apart the apple (directly provided from the grocery, lol), all other fruits have just been harvested from my courtyard and that one by my neighbors :-)

A Still Life test. A very similar arrangement as the previous one but lighted with only candles and no electric light.

Differently from my usual, I shot this composition from above.

I re-did the arrangement of the previous Still Life, trying to make it less crowded, taking out chestnuts and bonsai apples.

This arrangement has been lighted by a soft spot with incandescent warm light.

Differently from my usual, I shot this composition from up above (the previous Still Life is, instead, arranged and photographed frontally with vertical direction)

Saturn’s storm are sights to behold. Unlike other planets in the Solar System, the ringed planet seems to store up huge amounts of energy over multiple Earth decades and then release it all at once in the form of a swirling and chaotic lightning storm.

Scientists are unsure why and how the planet behaves this way, but these massive storms occur roughly once every Saturnian year – or once every 30 Earth years – and are known as Great White Spots.

The Great White Spot pictured here, also named the Great Northern Storm, was the largest and most intense storm that the international Cassini mission ever observed on Saturn. It began in late 2010 and lasted for months, but affected the clouds, temperatures and composition of the atmosphere for more than three years.

This true-colour view from Cassini was taken on 25 February 2011, roughly 12 weeks after the storm began, and shows the turbulent patterns within the storm. There appear to be two bands of storm, one further north and brighter than the other. In fact, the storm has thundered its way around the planet and caught up with itself. Some of the cloud south and west of the storm head can be seen tinged blue as it interacts with other currents in the atmosphere, while the storm head swirls with white and yellow as it heads westward to overtake its subtler tail.

It was a lucky coincidence that Cassini happened to be orbiting Saturn during the storm, offering an unprecedented opportunity to study the gas giant’s turbulent weather and climate patterns. Recently, Cassini found this storm to have been so immense and powerful that it was able to disturb the atmosphere at the planet’s equator some tens of thousands of kilometres away.

This disruption of the long-term, cyclical, continuing atmospheric patterns at mid-latitudes (dubbed informally by some as the planet’s ‘heartbeat’), is thought to be due ‘teleconnection’, which we also observe on Earth – when distant events within a climate system are somehow connected and can influence one another significantly.

This image combines red, green and blue filtered images from Cassini’s wide-angle camera to create a real-colour view. These images were taken at a distance of 2.2 million km from Saturn looking towards the sunlit side of the rings from just above the ring plane, and have a scale of 129 km per pixel.

The Cassini mission is a cooperative project of NASA, ESA and Italy’s ASI space agency. After 13 years of pioneering observations, Cassini ended its mission in spectacular fashion on 15 September 2017, plunging through the planet’s inner rings and atmosphere and breaking contact forever.

Today, Dec. 22, it's the 2nd monthly Birthday of Micro! *

I admit, I have decided to give him a playmate, very important for Micro to learn, play and grow together with the help of a Friend.

So, my extended Family of Parrots is larger and larger... But it was a wise choice as Lovebirds are genetically binomial creatures and they need a companion. In the case of Micro, the friend was even more important to stimulate him in the activities he urges to learn, especially because, due to the disadvantages he has, everything is harder for him, first of all eating on his own, learning to hold firmly to perches, play on swings, feel free and confident to move & fly !

And it's working super well!

Adopted Gigia when she (or he) was 3 weeks, she was born 10 days after him, on Nov, 1st, All Saints Day.

She begun to immediately take care of Micro, although she is younger. We have been blessed to find her because her personality is fantastic: she takes care of him, combs his plumes, clean his beak and especially plays with him a lot. They always sleep together side by side, sometimes she embraces him to keep him warm and, magic, I have seen her feeding Micro like she was an adult parent ! Feeding each other is very typical for partners or mates, but when they are adult and Gigia is a just weaned puppy!

* an important goal as the mortality risk after the 2. month should be totally resolved :-)

In this photo, shot on Dec. 9, they look like the same size just due to their position, but Gigia had grown already more than Micro.

It is so, he will probably remain a little smaller than the average size, he can still be contained in my fist :-)

But there is something very special of him: his eyes are bigger than any other Lovebird I have and his face is pure tenderness.

Gigia is beautiful too. I think she has probably the brightest and most vibrant colours in her plumage.

This photo shows it, even if not completely because of the frontal position but the lighting was anyway ok to show her true colours.

Here, they are looking at me with trust and affection, they are simply lovely, lovely Lovebirds !

Magic 6" long exposure and unusual perspective, from beyond, taken in darkness with the natural illumination of candle lights.

In this framing, the 4 pink Hippeastrum flowers compose a Greek Cross shape that may also look like a suspended glass chandelier or a light applique.

I've made me some special candle torches and painted over the flowers during the entire long exposure, insisting in the spots that I wanted highlighted.

©WhiteAngel Photography. All rights reserved. #LimitEdition

This is the originary colour version on a real blue backdrop of my previous monochrome up-load.

The second stem of my Hippeastrum plant recently flourished and I joined the occasion to organize a second (and third) shooting with the Light Painting technique but with my innovative (or antique?) approach of using just candles instead of battery torches or spot lights/reflectors.

Notwithstanding the complexity of my technique, the textures of the flowers and the colours brightened by the fire are very vivid and may result particularly detailed with a great chiaroscuro plus.

The magenta component of these pink Hippeastrum flowers results warmed by the light of the candles, turning a little more yellowish, exactly how I could see them illuminated by the natural light of the flames.

Let's see how my Light Painting Album in progress will develop...

Such a busy, busy day!! Had to go to my future work place for a few hours today to do prep work and I will have to again for 3/4 more times gratis...don't they know I'm a student and it costs me about £5 in petrol to get there and back :$ Anyway at least I have a job and I can't wait to start properly :)

On my way home (which took such a long time...stupid traffic) I picked up some reduced flowers for just 37p at the supermarket and that is what the photo is of.... I will get some creativity soon amd stop with the flower shots!
