Photographing these "ice caves" is physically demanding, technically challenging, and sometimes dangerous. Some of the caves I've explored extended for thousands of feet into total darkness. The resulting images are often quite surreal in these ephemeral natural wonders.

Built of striking pink granite in 1889, this lighthouse has saved many lives. In 1875, a hazardous rock was discovered just below the water line off St Helens Point, so it was decided to build a lighthouse. It took over a decade to arrange the finance and obtain the building materials.

The small auxiliary light seen here in the background was designed to light the Victoria rocks below. It was taken out of commission when the light was electrified in the 1930s. Access to Eddystone Point was only possible by sea until the 1920s when a road was established through to Gladstone. Wireless communication was established in 1935.

Centre Place - right in the heart of Melbourne - has been a treasure trove of great photo opportunities for me recently. There a so many interesting things in 50 odd meters of laneway. I can't wait to get back there again to add find more laneways like this to add to my gallery.

September 3pm hour. A mesmerizing treasure trove of golden sunshine sparkles appeared in the water as I was walking around Ventura Harbor. Then in the fresh ocean breeze, along came a stand-up paddleboarder, unencumbered and uncluttered. After swirling through the sparkles like a lightweight nomad, he turns and looks back. I wonder if he saw the same thing I did. Anyway, it looks like he was freely enjoying the afternoon and I hope he goes home happy.

To be here was such a treat. I wanted a picture with boats for my 'Hours' picture because I was born in September in the 3pm hour on what is now 'International Talk Like A Pirate Day', so it worked out well. Arrr, Matey!

September is so lovely and it will transition into Fall before we know it. As Summer fades, it leaves its door open just a little...

Thank you again for your patience, my Flickr friends. I'm still off and on for awhile longer.

Wandering my neighborhood, I discovered a treasure trove of large poppies. I'd only been familiar with the small yellow poppies that dotted the hillsides in the California foothills or the bright Icelandic poppies that I'd purchase from the garden store. However, these big beauties were inspiring. I can hardly wait for next spring so I can capture more poppy moments.

I was driving down a new country road on my way to a Greenhouse when to my dismay I came upon a treasure trove of Bluebirds!

I recently had the opportunity to photograph an abandoned funeral home in Cleveland's inner city. This is one of my favorite shots from that day. As the man once said, "I ain't scared of no ghosts!"

Sometimes despite all the fantastic skies, the beauty is in the sand. I love it when shapes and forms appear as the waves recede. A treasure trove of subjects. sand is by Holly Golightly.

NE of Robin, Minnesota. A treasure trove of dilapidated vehicles.

Year after year I watch my garden go through the metamorphosis of the seasons. Some flowers with delicate, fragile stems actually are some of the strongest survivors of the elements. I really liked how the various stages of these seed heads was present. Here's to nature and photography!

This week's theme for Mosaic Montage Monday was Metallic Sheen. One is new and one I found in my treasure trove of archives...

HMMM!

Seen at Hidcote. Mine grew too quickly, got very leggy and fell over!

A treasure trove of photo opportunities: the (caution: tongue-twister) Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord, the site of a former smelting works and a cultural heritage gem.

Seeing this image reminded me of my childhood and exploring the contents of my Grandmother's jewelry box.

A string of pearls sat on top of a silvered card with a sea shell as a prop. A gold reflector held to the left hand side helped the windowlight light the image.

James, our electrician (in the "electric" blue jumpsuit :-D), is standing on the dock, in the rain, discussing lighting for our reflected vacation log house. I'm across the lake, getting wet, while trying to capture the unexpected "riches" of this normally rather mundane event.

This Cedar Waxwing found a treasure trove of Rosehips and procured quite a few before moving on from Willow Pond. There is a small park centred on that water body in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada. The red tips on the wing feathers of a mature Cedar Waxwing are wax-like growths coloured by a carotenoid pigment that is found in red fruits. As the birds age, both the number and size of the tips increases. It appears that the tips serve as signals of fitness that come into play during mate selection.

I took a couple of steps back and saw what appeared like a pile of copper pennies..I mean the old lovely big copper pennies (not the fiddly little things around today ) In fact are pennies still currency these day ? We have quite a collection of old coins oddly enough because both Jonathan and I used to collect them..Still miss threepenny bits or a shiny sixpence and felt rich if I had half a crown...aw what have they done to our old currency :(

The forests of Western North Carolina hold a treasure trove of sights, sounds, aromas, all laid out before any who bother to take a moment to look. This waterfall is only a mere 12 feet tall, and through most of the year the foliage covers its waters, through most of the year it runs gently… During the late fall and early spring though, it opens up, then you wait for the rain. The once gentle fall becomes something more, eye catching, magical, a sight to behold, a sight worth stopping for. Take your time, and really give this lovely little curtain of water deep in the forest more than a glance, allow yourself to become entranced. Nature lays itself bare before us, all we have to do is look.

The great Charlemagne chose Aachen as his imperial residence at the start of the 9th century. As the first Holy Roman Emperor his dream was to the turn the city into a new Rome. For the next 600 years or so, every Holy Roman Emperor was crowned in the city. And today, five hundred years after the last coronation Aachen still glows with the regalia of those ceremonies.

There are brilliant golden shrines in the Cathedral, like the reliquary holding Charlemagne’s bones, while the cathedral treasury is a breathtaking trove of Medieval riches. Today Aachen’s tourist board has set out a “Route Charlemagne” to show you around the sights relating to its former ruler, like the City Hall, site of his palace and where the Imperial coronation feast was held.
