Well some people work hard even on a Saturday. One has to make a living. Even painting a fresh new coat on an older baNAna as Minion might say.

Wikipedia: Rambutan is a medium-sized tropical tree in the family Sapindaceae. The name also refers to the edible fruit produced by this tree. The rambutan is native to Southeast Asia. It is closely related to several other edible tropical fruits, including the lychee, longan, pulasan, and quenepa.

The papaya is a small, sparsely branched tree. Its origin is in the tropics of the Americas.

The fruit is a large berry. It is ripe when it feels soft (as soft as a ripe avocado or softer), its skin has attained an amber to orange hue and along the walls of the large central cavity are attached numerous black seeds.

The unripe green fruit can be eaten cooked, but not raw due to its poisonous latex content. The ripe fruit of the papaya is usually eaten raw, without skin or seeds. The black seeds of the papaya are edible and have a sharp, spicy taste.

Position: Breadfruit is a species of flowering tree in the mulberry and jackfruit family believed to be a domesticated descendant of Artocarpus camansi originating in New Guinea, the Maluku Islands and the Philippines. It was iniftially spread to Oceania via the Austronesian expansion. The tree can reach a height of up to 20 metres.

This photo was taken in New Caledonia on the main island of Grande Terre in the Yate region, Southwest Pacific, captured by the Canon EOS 650 analog camera and using the Canon scanner.

The coconut plantation on La Digue in the Seychelles Island group is a favorite destination of tourists. It leads to one of the most photographed beaches in the world, but there can be hazards getting to the beach. It was harvest time when I was there. The men in the trees were luckily mindful of the people walking by! Their great smiles and the shining huge machete in their hands made a great picture.

Chrysobalanus icaco, the cocoplum, paradise plum, abajeru or icaco, is found near sea beaches and inland throughout tropical Africa, tropical Americas and the Caribbean, and in southern Florida and the Bahamas. It is also found as an exotic species on other tropical islands, where it has become a problematic invasive. Although taxonomists disagree on whether Chrysobalanus icaco has multiple subspecies or varieties, it is recognized as having two ecotypes, 1- inland which is less salt-tolerant and more upright and 2-coastal. Both the ripe fruit and the seed are considered edible.

The sapodilla fruit is about the size of a lime. Its flesh is an earthy, yellow color with a slightly grainy texture similar to a pear. The ripe fruit is extremely sweet with a delicious malty flavor. The unripe sapodilla fruit is extremely bitter. It contains a high amount of saponins with astringent properties.

Sapota is almost insect resistant but it is compulsory to save it from the cold. There are some insects that trouble sapodilla such as Banana spotting bugs, Caterpillars.

Smile on Saturday! :-) - Freaky Fruit

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments

The Purple Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana), colloquially known simply as "the mangosteen", is a tropical evergreen tree, believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands and the Moluccas of Indonesia. The tree grows from 7 to 25 m (20–80 ft) tall. The rind (exocarp) of the edible fruit is deep reddish purple when ripe. Botanically an aril, the fragrant edible flesh can be described as sweet and tangy, citrusy with peach flavor and texture.

The longan's (Euphoria longan) origin is disputed. It may be native to the west of Burma or alongside the lychee in China. It is in these regions that it is planted on a large scale. Longan is a prolific bearer and thrives in monsoonal regions with pronounced rainy and dry seasons. Longan is by a wide margin Thailand's greatest fruit export, beating pineapple, durian, and pummelo in money value. A very close relative of the longan, the mata kuching (E. malaiensis), also known as cat's eyes, is cultivated in many areas of South East Asia.

P/s : HAPPY WEEKEND TO ALL MY FLICKR FRIENDS..

"I'll have the tropical fruit pavlova, I think. But why don't you just leave them here and I'll continue my deliberations." :)

For this week's Crazy Tuesday group theme, Smaller than a thumb nail. The wooden waiter's hand is 1" long.

A pineapple growing at Jungla Del Jaguar in Costa Rica.

As we climbed into the foothills of the Andes on our way from Guayaquil to Cuenca, we came upon this small village with two large fruit stands. They had almost every kind of tropical fruit you can imagine, and we sampled many.

I came across this petite pineapple growing in a garden on Ka'anapali strip. Sometimes these small pineapples are planted as ornamentals in resort and hotel gardens. Once again, I am experimenting with different processing techniques. Let me know what you think. Enjoy.

Tropical fruit are a botanically diverse group of fruit indigenous to tropical regions. Their representatives come from numerous families, including Anacardiaceae (mango, hog plum, imbu), Sapindaceae (rambutan, taun, lychee, longan), Passifloraceae (passion fruit), Bromeliaceae (pineapple) and Annonaceae (custard apple, soursop, sugar apple). Traditionally, tropical fruit were consumed locally, either grown in a subsistence-style agricultural structure or gathered from the wild.

The colors of this medium-sized Pineapple are astounding, only Peter Max could have thought them up... except God that is. Roses, yellows, oranges, pinks, curvy edges, prickers, stickers. More color and texture than the mind can conceive!

The second shoot will form another pineapple and perhaps shoot additional fruits as well.

Razor sharp edges. Look out arms and legs!
