Yesterday, while Flickr was down for scheduled maintenance, I went to Trillium Hill. At this time on the Leelanau, there are many hillsides white with Trillium; and two different places are known as Trillium Hill. I went to the one closest to my home, listened to the birds sing, and took joy in the impossibility of ever capturing in a single shot all of the Trillium that I saw, not even with the widest lens imaginable.

Trillium Lake is a lake situated 7.5 miles (12.1 km) south-southwest of Mount Hood in Oregon. It is formed by a dam at the headwaters of Mud Creek, tributary to the Salmon River. It was created by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife in 1960.

The area which is now the lake was part of the Barlow Road, a component of the Oregon Trail. A log road across marshes allowed immigrants to pass to Summit Meadow, which was a toll station from 1866—1870. Trillium is a genus of flowers particularly noticeable in the area.

The lake is popular for fishing, camping and photography, often clearly reflecting Mount Hood. The lake is a very popular Nordic skiing destination from a trailhead across U.S. Route 26 from Snow Bunny.

So the story with this image. I had been to Trillium Lake 2 times. First time it was loaded with people on the lake, but a nice sky. Second time it had no people, except for the guy who owned this canoe, who stood by patiently as I did my shooting. It was calm across the lake but the sky was nondescript. So I have combined the first visit sky onto the second visit lake.

Trillium, a rainy June day near summit of Ampersand Mt. Adirondacks

The spectacular Red Trillium was blooming all over my local woods this past weekend. It's definitely Trillium season here, so it's very hard not to stop again and again for pics. lol

I hope everyone enjoys this image!

Yes, Mount Hood again, this time the angle is from the south, just after sunrise, happy week to everyone and best wishes for the coming holidays during these strange times. Next upload will be from the same place later in the morning.

Why is the trillium such a favorite? Ontario's provincial flower lights up the deep, dark woods with a carpet of colour after our long winters. It is always a thrill to catch the first glimpse of blooms through the trees in the spring. Sadly, done for the season now.

Mid May, when the cherry orchards and the trillium are in bloom, is an especially beautiful time on the Leelanau Peninsula. Unfortunately, I was sick with a sore throat and cold this year during May and missed photographing both the cherry orchards and the trillium. Fortunately, I found this reminder of trillium beauty in the archives to enjoy and share.

Taken at Cross Hill's Gardens, in a dark area under some large trees I found these amazing looking flowers that were catching some nice side light illuminating the flowers.

I'm pleased there was a little sign saying what they were!

WOODLAND NATIVE

The dominant color is red, but this trillium can also be white or various shades of pink. The red trillium commonly hybridizes with T. flexipes.

Yesterday we hiked in the woods, looking for some mushrooms and no, we didn’t find any but the woods we’re covered with trilliums. So pretty.

Trillium erectum is native to the eastern United States and eastern Canada.

Walking into the forest near my house, I was amazed to see thousands of these gorgeous Trilliums in full bloom. Picking parts off of a trillium plant can kill it even if the rhizome is left undisturbed. Because they are so delicate, Trilliums are a very rare plant. Some species of trillium are listed as threatened or endangered and collecting these species may be illegal. Luckily, they enjoy the climate of the Pacific Northwest!

Shown is a flower which is beyond mature and in decline. As the flower ages the white petals will turn a rosy pink color.

There is an amazing garden in one of the neighbourhoods where I go for walks. The homeowner, a master gardener, happened to be out when I came by and she showed me this trillium and a few other hidden gems within her garden. I've never seen this variety of trillium before, only white ones. What a treat!

Ontario's Official Flower

The other day I posted a maroon trillium that was grown by a master gardener. She also grew a small clump of white trilliums. These flowers are quite short-lived and a treat to see.
