My triffids, Triffidis wyndamus, have just emerged in the garden this spring. Keeping them does pose a few problems, but they are easily contained with electric fencing and one must be sure to wear gloves and eye protection to handle them. A bit scary perhaps, but they are quite beautiful when fully grown.

The Day of the Triffidsis a post-apocalyptic novel by the English sci-fi author John Wyndham, written in 1951. A film loosely adapted from the book was made in 1962.

("The day of the Triffids")

And we danced, on the brink of an unknown future, to an echo from a vanished past. (J. Wyndham)

From archives - reminded me of the Day of the Triffids. South of Barcelona.

Suburban Disasters II

“And so the one in our garden continued its growth peacefully, as did thousands like it in neglected spots all over the world. It was some little time later that the first one picked up its roots and walked.”

― John Wyndham, The Day of the Triffids

The Triffid Nebula (pink and blue on the right) and the Lagoon Nebula, an interesting section of the Milky Way. This shot is a stack of 8 shots (before a tree got in the way), 12 minute frames. Stacked in Photoshop, some star reduction and some -ve texture adjustment in Lightroom to bring out some interesting details!

I almost titled this image after an obscure and little known story by John Wyndham, author of "The Day of the Triffids" and "The Chrysalids", called "Confidence Trick". In it a man becomes completely convinced that reality was just a construct that he saw only because he believed he was seeing it.

He started to wonder what would happen if he completely pulled his 'investment of belief' away. The thought both terrified and excited him. For the longest time he held his suspicions at bay, fearing the possible consequences. Finally one day he stops in the middle of the street, utterly convinced that what he saw all around him, street, buildings, people were all just a 'confidence trick'. Defiantly he stands there and shouts out, "I don't believe ....!"

And before he can even finish, 'reality' begins to crumble and dissolve right before his eyes .....

Mythical animal made from foliage - leaves and flowers - possibly a triffid.

Playing with starnet++ for edits, and different Photoshop ideas!

Just a harmless looking tree stump on a beach but Photoshop reveals the inner menace! HFF and I mean no offence. Thanks very much for comments.

Thought I should show the tree in all it's glory, as it really was before the night slide.

Don’t ask me what the heck these are…I am to horticulture what Shakira is to knitting.

'I was hiding from them even while I moved among them.'

(From: The Day Of The Triffids, by John Wyndham, 1951).

Down in the mysterious valley, the vegetation is so dense that it is difficult to move. She has to squeeze through the greenery. Strangely, the plants seem to want to block her path. They cluster around her, seem to want to inspect her. She senses intelligence of some sort - and curiosity and suspicion. These are sentient beings! Her heart pounds. She breathes shallowly. She hides her human emotions by thinking of the jungles of Borneo, tropical rain, and hornbills. A strange sweet odor fills the air. The plants visibly rejoice, gently humming, and welcome her in their midst - and then she is allowed to pass.

Her heart beats wildly.

Gate post.

This is a very quick one for the Crazy Tuesday theme this week From Above.

The image is of a gatepost garden I found on one of my local walks. I have discovered that all sorts of things grow in gate posts!

Sadly I have been away so wasn't able to take something this week - this is from February. Hope that is OK for the group... Back to normal real soon now :)

Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. HCT :)

Ever since a friend (you know who you are) described some plants in his photo as triffids I have viewed every tall, weed-like plant as some malevolent, sentient being. Case in point here. I will swear these winter-dead plants were trying to rip down that chainlink fence,

HFF!

Now, I could leave the description blank and keep all you horticulturalists guessing but I won't. This is a made up plant! Part plastic, part chrysanthemum bud and with three succulent leaves strategically placed. I was only experimenting with colours at first but then,

well, it looked okay, so here we have..... triffid. : )

This young Sparrow appears to have bubbles on its eyebrows ... ☺

That's our giant Sage on the left of it. All our herbs are like Triffids can't keep up with them.

Spotted this ‘triffid’ on a visit to the Walled Garden at Holkham Hall in North Norfolk.

This image really spooked me out!! If I can muster the courage I must return when there is a bit of mist

NB.This will be the last image that I will be uploading this week, due to having eye surgery tomorrow (Thursday). Hopefully, if all goes well I will continue posting in a few days time

Created for SOTN's "Dark Abstract" Challenge.

Found a massive ancient oak, but the light was poor for a straight colour portrait, and I've done enough B&W trees for now, so.... thinking of a War of the Worlds or Day of the Triffids vibe; the branches resembling tentacles crawling out of a mothership or the like.
