NS 1070, the Wabash heritage unit, leads train 223 eastbound. It is seen here splitting the Wabash era searchlights at Truesdale, MO, near Warrenton on the St. Louis District. When you have the Wabash heritage unit, on the former Wabash mainline, with Wabash signals as well... it's a nice mix.

Here is another from this fun chase long ago and one of the only times I got a three scheme locomotive consist.

On a cold crisp Saturday afternoon an Alaska Railroad company work train of yellow side dump gondolas rolls south along the ARR mainline at about MP 68.3 on the causeway between Girdwood and Portage where they will set out some cars before turning around and coming back north. The three bought new GP40-2s provide a history of the ARR in paint - from the austere black and gold of the mid 1970s Federal days to the bold blue and yellow of the 1980s and transition to state ownership to the sophisticated scheme of today that debuted at the dawn of the millenium on the SD70MACs and which is now the standard.

Note: since this photo was taken 3002 & 3012 have joined their sister and received the current ARR scheme leaving no GP40-2s in the Alaska Bold scheme and only three in old school black and yellow.

Fall comes early in the 49th State and despite it still being officialy summer there is a hint of early color among the leaves clinging to the cliffs along Turnagain Arm. A 125N with manifest interchanged from the CN's Aqua train that sailed from Prince Rupert, BC to Whittier is headed to Anchorage. They are seen here winding around landmark Gorilla Rock at about MP 91.5.

This is one of the very few times I ever caught a train with one of each paint scheme in my decade living in Alaska. A pair of GP40-2s, one each in as delivered black and gold and modern era 'baby mac' paint, lead a GP38-2 dressed in the 1980s 'Alaska Bold' livery.

Simply in the right place at the right time😊

I wish I had better resolution on this! but look, "Little Pink Trifecta" (nose, toes, tongue). Added this to Happy Caturday 1/2/2021 “makes me smile” because, even poor resolution, adorbs right?

A trio of CSX trains are tied down at 'Forks', just outside of Buffalo, New York on a damp November evening.

A trifecta of brown Pelicans wing it toward the ocean, as the fumbling photographer does his best to get them in focus.

Here's my attempt at a shot of the moon this morning. Photo taken within city of Edmonton. Wish I had woken up in time to get a proper shot on a tripod outside of the city.

Nature's Beauty

After having luck with the timing of sun and clouds at two prior locations, we weren't sure what to expect at Tobyhanna. Upon arrival it was overcast and snowing. Moments before PO-75 appeared the cloud cover decreased, and the snow tapered off. A few flakes can be seen against the dark background of Tobyhanna station as DL 3007 eases past.

Trifecta at LAUPT on April 18, 1970, 55 years ago. Left to right: SP 6459 is on a 22-car fan special to Bakersfield; Santa Fe 36C is on a 20-car SAN DIEGOAN #74; and SP 3203 is on the SAN JOAQUIN DAYLIGHT with 6 cars. (Yes, I know, I am not standing in a safe place, but there are fans all around and the only thing moving is the 3203. I will be riding the SP special.)

A multiple exposure photograph taken of an advertisement comprised of three separate images. Some small distracting details were cloned out. A smooth, minimal oil paint filter was also applied. This photo was taken on the same day as the adjacent multiple exposure shots here in my photostream. While editing the photo I discovered that the advertisement itself turned out to be a composite image of the model's photo superimposed upon the colourful background seen here.

A few days ago, I posted an image of the Bow Falls in Canada's Banff National Park. My Flickr friend Ka2rina commented on the photograph and asked if the rapids ever freeze up in winter, so I decided to answer with this photograph. It pictures the water of Bow Falls in three forms: liquid, ice and snow - a photographic trifecta.

The Chuo-Sobu (yellow), Chuo (orange), and Marunouchi (red) JR Metro train lines are all coming and going at Ochanomizu Station in Tokyo.

I had to wait to wait a long time to get all three trains in a single shot.

Behind a trifecta of SD40-2s, M303 rolls west through a bean field outside Mentor. How a road train made it out of the terminal with 3 SD40s is beyond me, but I'm not one to complain. Interestingly enough, all 3 major components of CSX were represented with SD40s from Chessie, Conrail and Seaboard System all in consist.

Hoping to maybe see a migrant come to the fountain, we spent a couple hours at Ardenwood. No special migrants to be found, but it is apparent that it's a very good year for Yellow Warblers. There were a lot coming to the fountain and seeing reports all around the Bay Area of lots being spotted. Fun to see three together at once. And a beautiful respite from the news. The water dripping from the fountain above made for an interesting background.

This was actually my 1st on my waterfall journey. I planned on this spot, Falls Creek, and McClennan. It makes for a long day but well worth it. The Giff is full of goodness.
