"In the centre a robustly-modelled triumphal arch is superimposed on the palazzo façade. The centre niche or exedra framing Oceanus has free-standing columns for maximal light and shade. In the niches flanking Oceanus, Abundance spills water from her urn and Salubrity holds a cup from which a snake drinks. Above, bas reliefs illustrate the Roman origin of the aqueducts.[25]
The Tritons and horses provide symmetrical balance, with the maximum contrast in their mood and poses[citation needed] (by 1730, rococo was already in full bloom in France and Germany) " (Wikipedia)

One of the tourist attraction in Rome, Trevi Fountain. Our first night in Italy, and it was until the second night then we realise it was not usually lit up in purple light.
Any locals can tell me what was the occasion that it was lit in purple light?
I really appreciate your kindness and visit in my gallery 💕 to read your lovely comments or receive your faves is a great pleasure for me but please no awards...
This fountain is the largest in Rome and the favorite of tourists, the bottom of its bowl is always glistening with coins
When cleaning the fountain, thousands of euros worth of coins are removed. The fountain was built almost 300 years ago.
It is 26 meters high and more than 20 meters wide. The facade of the fountain can be viewed endlessly and amazed by the abundance of fine details.

The Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) in Rome, Italy. Probably the most famous of Rome's hundreds of fountains. At 86 feet high and 161 feet wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Designed by Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini, it was formally inaugurated in 1762. It seems that people throw almost 3000 euros worth of coins into the fountain every day.

The Trevi fountain is the largest of the Baroque fountains in Rome, and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the world.
The fountain is 26.30 m high and 49.15 m wide. Every day it spills 80.000 cubic meter of water.
The design of the Trevi fountain is based on three architectural elements: a façade made of travertine; statues of carrara marble; a see reef also made of travertine (trevifountain.net).
There's always throngs of people admiring it, and throwing coins over their shoulder.
After a renovation in 2015, the Trevi Fountain continues to be a primary tourist destination in Rome. I had to battle for an unimpeded spot up front to get this shot.

I did throw the three coins in the fountain - one to return to Rome which I did the following year
Ocean is in the center of the fountain. He his carried on his triumphal chariot by two horses controlled by two Tritons. One horse is restless, one is calm, like the two moods of the sea. This Triton is the older calm one and holds a twisted shell that is using to announce their passage.
When we visited Rome we had a small bare bones apartment that overlooked the fountain. There wasn't much to it, but "location, location, location". proved to be true. It was an amazing week. Oh and it wasn't shot with a "finepix"camera, it was shot with my Konica Minolta...don't know how the exif came up like that...:-))

Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi). Rome. Aqueduct-fed rococo fountain, designed by Nicola Salvi & completed in 1762, with sculpted figures. (4/18/2025)
Certainly the most famous and photographed fountain in Rome, legend has it that whoever throws a coin into the pond will return to Rome.
The Fontana di Trevi, Rome’s most iconic fountain, is a grand baroque masterpiece that bursts with drama, movement, and myth. Towering at over 26 meters high and 49 meters wide, it dominates the small piazza with its theatrical flair. At its center stands Oceanus, the god of all water, riding a shell-shaped chariot pulled by sea horses—each led by a Triton, symbolizing the moods of the sea.
The water tumbles over sculpted rocks into a wide, crystal-clear basin, shimmering under the Roman sun. Crowds gather daily to toss coins over their shoulder, making wishes in a centuries-old tradition. With the soft roar of the fountain, the scent of nearby gelaterias, and the hum of awe-struck visitors, the Trevi Fountain is more than a monument—it’s a moment of enchantment in the heart of Rome

A photo from my Rome Library,
Fontana di Trevi, in Trevi, Rome, really is considered to be one of the most famous fountains in the world (if not the most famous) - and a must for any tourist visiting the eternal city.
The myth is, that if you want to return to Rome, you should through a coin into the fountain (I did that back in -96, I hope it still counts). According to BBC, some 3 000 Euros end up in the fountain in a day - and this money is used for charity.
The fountain is a late Baroque creation by the architect Nicola Salvi and the sculptor Pietro Bracci, and was finished in 1762. The big man is Oceanus, the Titan god of the sea, with Tritons and hippocampi (the plural of hippocampus - a sort of sea-horse). The fountain is built into the back of Palazzo Poli - and central portions of the palace was demolished to make room for the it. The fountain had a thorough clean in 1998 and a total renovation in 2014-2015 (sponsored by Fendi - the fashion brand).
The fountain is quite famous from the movie La Dolce Vita by Federico Fellini - where the Swedish actress Anita Ekberg, who took a dip in the fountain. Today, you can't do that (if you would even want to, in front of such a large audience), because the police is quite vigilant and if anyone is even too close to the fountain you will here a sharp whistle.
