After a lengthy wait the AVR Island Ave. job is heading back east. Seems that the NS C28 local was late delivering their cars. (Imagine that) Pittsburgh, PA
A pair of ex-Conrail SD60Ms painted and lettered for Carload Express drag AVR-1 through "The Trench" after interchanging with NS at Island Avenue.
The contractors have been working hard creating long trenches on the beach from Black Rock towards the Pier. I asked one of them what the trenches were and he explained they are part of the improving biodiversity plan (see below) The trenches are like planters which, once finished, will be filled with native plants, flowers and chalk land grasses. The trench area will then be fenced in so the public can look but not touch.
I made a MOC! I love it. Creds to neighborhood bricks for the wall design. Vikrainian soldier in a trench battling against Germainians.

Quick jaunt out this morning with good friend Ian Pinn to catch the morning light on these furrows... Sky wasn't up to much - return visit required - but the light on the tree was sweet all the same.....
*explored*
The foliage around the trench in Pittsburgh tends to change significantly later than everything else, usually the peak week for it is the second week of November, so going here on the 2nd is a little early. NS 32A makes its way east for Abrams Yard with the VGN on point.
Today 11 November, Belgium remembers all the people who died in the two World Wars. During World War I, the war was fought from the trenches.
Here, soldiers fought a hard and bloody battle for four long years.
The Trench of Death is a historic site in Diksmuide, Belgium.
It was one of the most dangerous places on the front line during World War I.
Belgian soldiers defended this position for four years under very hard conditions.
Today, the site is a memorial where visitors can learn about the war and remember those who fought and died here.

I slowed the firework explosion part down because it was rather quick and its fun to go frame by frame looking at the different shots
Also threw in some john williams because the war horse soundtrack seemed to fit the theme
Wow, feels so good after getting back on track with Flickr after getting tied up in a chair for a week
Anyways here are some ideas I had for Bane, Joker, and The Riddler with trench coats.
Bane: Around a week ago I came up with a bane with the normal head and torso, but with grey and black dual molded legs. After putting a trench coat on him, I thought he looked pretty badass, so I kept it on him.
Joker: Really simple. 2006 torso, 2012 head, 2014 hat, and trench coat. Mostly inspired off of the Killing Joke Joker
Riddler: This is really the same thing as my own custom one, except the torso and pants have been switched out for black suit. Though it looked nice on him.

The trench watch was a type of watch that came into use by the military during World War 1, as pocket watches were not practical in combat. It was a transitional design between pocket watches and wristwatches, incorporating features of both. Up until this time wristwatches were seen as a womans watch.
This example is one of my own dated 1909 and made of sterling silver. It keeps perfect time even after 114 years.
The chap lay down in the photo is my grandfather, Christopher McGuinness, who was killed in action on 15th October 1914. His son, my Dad, was born 19th October 1909 the same year my watch was made.

As promised here's the whole build for my WWI portrait. The twisted chains make great barbed wire! And I really like using the dark tan bushes for explosions! Sadly the picture is crappy.
American soldiers bust through demoralized German lines, in the Meuse-Argonne offensive, of 1918.

Another outdoor scene! :D
I'm also doing a diorama of the Meuse-Argonne offensive!
A grim reminder of "life in the trenches'.
"A short segment of the trenches used in Canada to train First World War soldiers has been restored and opened to the public.
About 350,000 Canadian soldiers trained at Camp Borden in Ontario during the First World War. Here they were they were introduced to the rigours of warfare in 18 kilometres of training trenches, knowledge they carried with them are put to good use in battles at Vimy Ridge in France and Passchendaele in Belgium"
