Oha it's already the last day of Polaroid Week. I'm ending with another picture of my new "Swedish friend" Old Tjikko. He is really the most impressive creature I have met this year, and he has given me a lot to think about...

I end the week with a second picture from the series "fragile trees". for this picture I had already changed my workflow a bit, not so many hairs turned grey... ;)
unfortunately I wasn't able to take part in polaroid week as much as I would have liked. nevertheless, it was a celebration for me and I am very grateful to be part of this community. polaroid week is always sooo inspiring and wonderful. I'm already looking forward to autumn and spending some more time in the pool, to see all the pictures of this week!
p.s. the two mosaics will be exhibited at the instant cologne (27.5. - 29.5.). so if you are nearby, you are welcome to have a look at them there.

Sentinel Dome is known for a Jeffrey Pine that grew from its peak (see photograph). The pine was photographed as early as 1867 by Carleton Watkins, and was the subject of a well-known photograph by Ansel Adams. The tree died during the drought of 1976, but remained standing until August 2003.

I thought the earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly,
arranging her dark skirts, her pockets
full of lichens and seeds.
I slept as never before, a stone on the river bed,
nothing between me and the white fire of the stars
but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths
among the branches of the perfect trees.
All night I heard the small kingdoms
breathing around me, the insects,
and the birds who do their work in the darkness.
All night I rose and fell, as if in water,
grappling with a luminous doom. By morning
I had vanished at least a dozen times
into something better.”

trees fight climate change

fifth fact: trees purify air: trees absorb pollutant gases such as nitrogen oxides, ozone, ammonia, sulfur dioxide. they also absorb odors and act as a filter as little particulates get trapped in leaves. a mature acre of trees can yearly provide oxygen for 18 people.

Years go by and I’m here still waiting
Withering where some snowman was
Mirror, mirror, where’s the crystal palace?

sixth fact: trees tell stories. at least to me. have you ever sat down at an old tree, looked into the landscape and imagined what this tree has already seen and experienced? try it out and let the tree tell you all his wonderful stories ...
thank you all for your support and creativity this roidweek, you can't imagine how good that did me just now.

I noticed this lonely tree in a field during a walk near Chidham, West Sussex, UK. I really liked how windswept it appered to be from the angle that I captured it from, as well as how moody the overcast sky turned out in the final image.

The night is darkening round me,
The wild winds coldly blow;
But a tyrant spell has bound me,
And I cannot, cannot go.
The giant trees are bending
Their bare boughs weighed with snow;
The storm is fast descending,
And yet I cannot go.
Clouds beyond clouds above me,
Wastes beyond wastes below;
But nothing drear can move me;
I will not, cannot go.”

About Ina Echternach:
Every exploration of the woods fascinates me anew. I let myself be guided by nature, see that something special in seemingly commonplace things, feel the magic of places and try to capture these moments of timelessness.
Instant film is the perfect medium for my approach. The polaroid wrests a picture away from that one moment.
Ina Echternach, born in 1970, lives and works in the nature park Siebengebirge, located in the heart of Europe.
