WANNABE WARMER WEDNESDAY #5

This photo was taken with my cell phone while we were hanging out in Hayward, WI. Can't beat the sunsets on any lake!! Looking forward to our yearly pilgrimage in a few months (and maybe a couple extra).

Faggeta di Oriolo Romano

This is a shot I took a couple of years ago on a very brief stop on my way to work. Conditions were perfect and I could have happily spent another hour in these woods but I only had a few minutes to spare. I have only just found this as I browsed through some old files.

Another from the same morning as my last post. I really liked the light on the forest floor and also catching the dew drops on the branches.

Taken at Surprise view near Keswick a few weeks ago. I was hoping to get some more woodland photos that morning however, the midges were just unbearable so I had to make do with one or two shots.

Juvenile white-tailed kite was sitting on this dead treetop waiting for the food exchange with his father and periodically was taking off into the deep blue sky to stretch his wings, practice his hovering maneuvers and then coming back to alight on the treetop again to resume his waiting ... @ Fairview Park

Juvenile white-tailed kite was sitting on the dead treetop patiently waiting for the food exchange with his mother. As waiting became too much, he would take off into the deep blue sky to stretch his wings, practice his hovering maneuvers and then he would come back to alight on the treetop again to resume his waiting ... @ Fairview Park

I decided to have a little play with some handheld shots using a long lens and wide aperture when I spotted some nice backlit trees.

Mom, Little pup, Big sis, Big dog, Little sis, and Dad

Mom comes from the

central depths of Treeland,

a place where growth and sappy love

contract and expand.

Little pup is from the burnt,

rooted forest of a far away land.

While Big dog comes from

a place so grand.

Big sis and Little sis,

share a room in Treeland,

High amongst the branch's where

the canopy is fanned.

Dad is a little bit of both,

the deep center,

grounded in the land,

with a little bit of sun and roots ,

from someplace that is grand.

All together they form

the rings in the tree band.

One family rooted in the sand.

I captured my first sunlight coming through the trees! I was very happy and interested in the sunshine that morning, but when I came close to it, it disappeared, so that was annoying a couple of times. After a while I saw what it was doing, saw how it was shining and got my angles right.

Juvenile white-tailed kite performed the food exchange with his father (it looks like a little black rat) high in the deep blue sky and then has alighted on the treetop to consume his snack... @ Fairview Park

as a family we've been walking these woods for over forty years, when i was a child this place was "Christmas treeland" and the trees were only recently planted. over the years we've been coming the changes have happened, I've gone from 10 to 50 and watched as life has sped past in an ever faster blur. so sharing this with new friends is always a pleasure. Ambergate woods. in May a bluebell lovers paradise, in autumn a leaf kickers parade, today i had it all to myself.. muddy.. tiring.. loved every minute.

NY Does It Big

The 1930's can be viewed as the single most progressive area in the world of fashion and photography as the two merged into one cohesive genre. The purpose of this shoot was to recreate the era in which consumerism drove the glamor of holly wood into they of the public despite The Great Depression...

Working out of Longstone depot the fleet group 901 to 926 is well on the way to being repainted in full and these vehicles normally work on Services 3, 32, 33, 34 and 35. It's always really special mind you if they turn up on a 23 and that certainly takes the eye down at Canonmills and Trinity!

Volvo B9TL, Wright Eclipse Gemini, number 916 (SN08 BYH) is seen here in profile within the treelands of Heriot Watt University's campus at Riccarton.

Do It Big

So you've seen my selfy test shots!

heres what the set up was for.

concept based off of the 1930's golden age of radio!

with the distinct class the white collar house wives of the 30's became the first to fall into modern consumerism. with the debut of vogue magazine nearly a decade before photography and fashion merged into a cohesive genre, solidifying commercial photography as a fine art. these three young ladies jobs were to reproduce the trends of the era in virtually all aspects of their appearance.

At Annie's Treeland in Rego Park. (She insisted on taking the tree to my car by herself, but I wouldn't let her. Do I look that old?)

Rose Glow PS Action by TheBellSisters :)

Just got back from a trip to the Chippewa Flowage in NW Wisconsin. After a week there and a bunch of shooting I finally took the time to try a star trails shot.

This was of the old Treelands barn homestead right off of Hwy B.

Shot is 197 30 second exposures stacked. All shot at f4, 400 ISO. Barn was added in a layer mask from a shot where I light painted the barn at night to bring some detail out. Almost full moon didn't help much as it rose during the last 30 minutes of the shooting time.

Not sure if the "shooting stars" are truly shooting stars, but I'm glad they were captured. :}

This image and the previous show the "top" of the trees I pictured in an earlier photo this last week in Mesa, Arizona. There is actually a row of four very tall palm trees at the entrance to Treeland Nurseries on Country Club Drive in Mesa, Arizona. This image captures the two middle ones of the set and the photo here shows how they were trained to make this landscaped shape. This photo was taken very early on Sunday morning.

Eastbrook Hall was built in 1904 on the site of the old Chapel which had been built in 1825.

The Opening Services of the Eastbrook Hall took place from March 21st 1904 until April 10th 1904. On Monday March 21st the Opening Day, Mrs W. Oddy (of Birkenshaw) opened the Hall at 11.30 am. Mr. Wm. Middlebrow (of Morley) presided over the Evening Public Meeting, when the speakers were the President and the Revs. J.G. Greenhough, S.F. Collier and H.M. Nield.

The following Saturday, The Eastbrook Prize Choir gave a grand Inaugural Concert in aid of the Organ Fund.

Eastbrook Hall was closed in the 80s after dwindling congregations meant it was an unsustainable resource. It has been extensively renovated since closure and has also had significant fire damage. About the only remaining original feature is the frontage.
