This forest is so special since I was walking there with him.
I am fascinated by some of the Tree roots I come across on my walks. Especially when you can see them above the surface like these. They are the veins that provide all the nutrients and water the tree requires, but much more.
There are five types of Tree roots, each of them developing at different stages of the Tree’s life:
1.Tap roots: Every tree starts with a tap root that provides stability and absorption. Over time, other roots outgrow the taproot. Most taproots don’t continue to grow ever more deeply because deep soils lack the oxygen and nutrients that roots need to survive.
2.Lateral roots: Lateral roots grow outwards right under the soil surface. They absorb a lot of water and nutrients as well as anchoring the tree.
3.Oblique/heart roots: Oblique roots, also known as heart roots, grow at a diagonal and have the same function as lateral roots.
4.Sinker roots: Sinker roots grow downwards from the lateral roots to a depth of several feet. There, lateral roots take advantage of any water and nutrients deeper in the soil in addition to increasing tree stability.
5.Fine roots: All the root types aforesaid can give rise to fine roots, which is where water and nutrients are directly absorbed. They also house mycorrhizae, which are fungal partnerships that increase root absorption capacity.
An interesting tale came to me some time ago that I am sure many of us can take a life lesson from. It tells of how trees push their roots down deeper when located in stormy areas. Their deeper roots helps them to withstand the elements. And there’s good advice for us all. Whatever your belief, put your roots down deep so when you face whatever life throws at you, you'll still be standing firm!

Well, I like the majestic beauty of an tree like this. I think it is a Common Oak (European Oak, Quercus Robur, zomereik, Stieleiche, Chêne Pédonculé) and this one too was growing on Offa's Dyke near Chirk Castle, Wales.

Everyone knows about the Sunrise and Paradise entrances into Mount Rainier National Park, those who enjoy the long beautiful drive go around to the Stevens Canyon entrance, but the lonely forgotten washed out Carbon River entrance is still there, you just have to walk it. I'm not fond of this pic, but it does show what the hike in looks like walking through 800 year old Douglas Firs. It's dark and where the light beams in the rays cause magic steam. the boughs hundreds of feet above you creek and a lot of them are falling. Moss inches thick covers the ground and down trees and more trees grow out of them. It's a tree lovers paradise as long as there isn't any wind. You walk on what was once the road which follows the river so it's sound is ever present and small waterfalls can be heard inland as well. It's damp, it was cold, the smell was amazing and my face still hurts from smiling. More (and better) shots to come.

It's sometimes difficult to photograph in the summer where the greens of the trees create a uniformity in the scene. Look for contrasts and light that isolates a tree. This evening along Sunset Cliffs here in San Diego, California. Two surfer slings hang from this wonderful tree and two lovers down the path overlooking ocean's edge.
I passed by my first love's home she lived in when we dated on the way...

I'm desperate for going on a hike. Life was keeping me busy the last weeks but now I'm ready for a trail.

This is the beautiful Wildwood trail in the Forest Park at Portland. We are so blessed to have this place close to home.
This was part of a beautiful hike with my son inspired by a book he is reading. We had a great time together walking 13km (about 8 miles) exploring just a part of this trail that is 30 miles long.
My name is Jonathan, and I'm in the 6th grade. I wrote this poem for a class last year. My mom thought it would be a good idea to place this poem on the net. I love trees a lot and I hate to see them ever cut. For all the tree lovers out there, this poem is dedicated to you.
Tree, Dear Tree

Tree, Dear Tree,
In the Spring, you give the birds a place to rest.
On your lovely branches I can hear a family of Robbins singing in their nest.
Some trees are short, some trees are tall,
But all trees are lovely as their leaves change in the Fall.
I love to see your reds and browns, but your golden yellows are the best of all.
How beautiful you are covered in winter white,
As you stand in the snow and your branches are frozen in ice.
Then again comes the spring so crisp and clean,
Waking you out of your slumbering sleep.
Joyfully telling you another year has gone by,
" Look up dear tree you have grown one inch more closer to the sky."

The beginning of a new day. Sunrise across the Berkshire/ Hampshire border. Shot was taken on a site where in the 1676 a man and a woman, were executed for the murder of the man’s wife and child , in an attempt to cover up the affair the man and woman were having.

My daughter is always with me on my hiking and photography adventures. She is 2 years old and she loves nature. I'm so proud of her.
These will be memories will always remember. We have tons of anecdotes.
Muir Woods National Monument is a unit of the National Park Service on the Pacific coast of southwestern Marin County, California, 12 miles north of San Francisco and part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. When John Muir learned that William and Elizabeth Kent were naming a redwood forest near San Francisco in his honor, he declared, "This is the best tree-lovers monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world." The couple had purchased the land to preserve its beauty and restful wilderness; and in 1908, they donated it to the federal governent to protect it from destruction.
Snow time is minimalism time!
