diaphoneo: Im Ennstal gibt's oft so herrlichen Nebel ;)

The tallest tree in the Mariposa Grove is about 290 feet (88 meters) and oldest living giant sequoias may exceed 3,000 years in age.

How did these trees capture the attention of the world? In total volume the giant sequoias are the largest living things known to humans.

It's raining again in Surbiton, but at least I get to go macro on the water droplets ...

This is the roof of a car, parked under a tree so there are droplets rather than just a layer of water (which is what all the other cars had.) I like the reflection of the surrounding trees captured here. Overall it looks like a weird alien landscape.

A reoccurring theme I noticed during my short time in Japan was how much nature is embedded in the Japanese culture. If this tree were to grow in the middle of some sacred grounds--such as a cemetery or temple-- in the United States, it would most likely be cut down. However, in this case in Japan, the tree was allowed to grow. I was shocked to see how nature could make its way into the concrete jungles of Kyoto, and even Tokyo, the world's largest city. You could be walking next to skyscrapers and then a forest would be immediately to your right. This tree captures this feeling of serenity, an uncommon feeling in the bustling cities in Japan.

Watco Australia’s WRA004 and WRB2180 lead an eastbound cattle train across the Dogwood Creek railway bridge at Miles, Queensland. Only WRA004 is visible in the frame as the rest of the train—including trailing locomotive WRB2180 and the livestock consist—follows through the trees. Captured on 28 June 2025.

Towering pines and dense forests dominate the snow-covered landscape of the Beskydy Mountains. The clear blue sky contrasts beautifully with the frosted trees, capturing the essence of winter's stillness.

two trees captured today whilst driving by. the wind is strong out this way so the trees seem to have grown out at a slight angle

The curve of this roofline, the ripples of siding, and the repeating windows reflecting the trees captured my attention on an evening walk.

This is near the Hudson River, so I went Hudson School for this moody image of a blooming tree capturing the sunlight.
