Pages in my sketchbook…it feels like the waves are never-ending and sometimes it helps a tiny bit to express my feelings and experiences in doodles that are meaningful to me.
Crusing its way from Dublin to Cherbourg, Irish Ferries W B Yeats, named after Ireland's most famous poet (1865 – 1939) William Butler Yeats.
WB Yeats was constructed by German shipbuilder Flensburger & delivered (albeit late ) in December 2018 & will be primarily used on the Dublin-Cherbourg route, upgrading the route from the current economy Epsilon service.
194 meters long, nearly 32 meters wide, comparable with the mighty Ulysses on the Dublin-Holyhead route but has far more cabin space given the longer crossing to France.
A total capacity of 1,885 passengers and crew, with 435 individual passenger cabins in various combinations.
Scandinavian resident Stena Vinga, usually found on the Karlskrona, Sweden to Gdynia, Poland route has been out of familiar waters, deputising on the Rosslare-Cherbourg route in 2020 & again in 2021.
It was much smaller than the incumbant Stena Horizon, especially with a much lower passenger capacity, however it had been operating during restrictive Covid-19 travelling conditions, its main purpose was to provide back up for freight movements between France & Ireland.
For late night arrivals in Dublin Airport, a sassy bus to take them to the city centre, Dublin Bus "wedding bus " is reading to take them on the sweet sixteen into the capital, with all the added wedding bells.

Hovering between Portsmouth & the Isle of Wight, the unique Hovercraft, gliding over the River Solent in its 10 minute journey, over land & sea, the Solent Flyer arrives at the Hover Travel terminal ar Southsea.

HMM!
In my sketchbook…
I can doodle meaningful ideas.
I can fight the waves that are constantly sweeping over me and drowning me in awfulness too deep for words.
I can stand up to the horror that keeps whirling around and within me.
I can try to breathe and I can work to breathe more deeply and slowly.
I can re-illustrate a different outcome…one where I am equipped, where I’m old enough and strong enough, where I can escape the unspeakable terror, where I have support and am not alone, where I have adequate resources and the knowledge, wisdom, awareness and experience of an adult.
I can do the ongoing, intense work of rewiring my brain which has been drastically altered by the unspeakable.
I can try to process and express what I am unable to describe with words.
I can grieve what I never asked to experience and what is too devastating to understand yet I have been left with, to do the intense work of surviving and healing.
[In an effort to try to help myself sleep, this was my midnight doodling I began the pen work on, in my handmade sketchbook which is inside my handmade travelers notebook, after previously having this idea come to mind and drafting part of this with pencil…to be continued…]

so today I'm celebrating Fountain Pen Day.
My pens and journals have been a constant solace during the, so far, eight months of challenging times.
The big guns at Rosslare.

Let's start 2016 every day with being grateful for all the beauty that surrounds us and cherish every special moment we encounter.

A travelers's notebook I made using veg tanned leather (a meaningful process for me) which has become my companion...doodling is one thing I sometimes do in order to cope and survive. I love how the leather cover for my small sketchbooks takes on unique character as I use it.
Yes, I've become obsessed with tassels and purchased this one as I'm not this advanced,
but have an overabundance of fibers and beads just waiting to get transformed in similar ways.
This beauty was listed as a "Yosemite Beaded Tassel Bookmark* suitable for a junk journal, travelers notebook or Purse Charm;
thus its inspired theme was part of my review!
The shabby chic, boho styled creation contains mixed fibers, beads, and a charm embellishment!
You might not notice this paper cover before when I customized the Traveler's Notebook Passport size for an exhibition last year. It is too pretty to be hidden inside the leather cover so I now use it on my actual passport cover. Not very durable though, wondering if there is any way to laminate it nicely.
From this photo you may notice the newly released brass collection (pen/clip/ruler) from Midori is significantly aged nicely comparing to how they looked 10 days ago. I actually speeded up the oxidization process by soaking them in sea salt and Worcestershire sauce for 2 days. If you are planning to do this to your stuffs, don't forget to let air to reach the brass surface coz the process obviously need those oxygen molecules to react with copper and zinc respectively to create lusting greenish-yellow and coppery red colors.
Why Worcestershire sauce you said. Despite the acidity I needed, it is my favorite spice after all. It works great with V8 to produce the Virgin Mary taste I like, it is used in Hong Kong restaurants for dim sum dishes such as steamed beef meatballs and spring rolls. Its original recipe was found last year in a skip inside a leather-bound notebook, which was bought from a stationer right next door to the original Lea and Perrins shop, see that's related to stationery too.
Having been using wider angle lenses most of the time, I recently fell in love with the 50mm field of view again. It was once my secondary school dream to own a Canon F1 (which happens to have a very strong brass body as well), so after acquiring it finally last year, I've been traveling with it almost daily. In my last trip to U.S., I had a chance to stop by L.A. for a day and I chose Union Station as my first stop and took some beautiful photos there. No wonder so many people go there to take their wedding photos.
Worcestershire sauce, leather, brass, camera, notebook , pen etc, what do they have in common? More than the brown and nostalgic quality they posses, they give me warmth through senses in solitary travels.

Traveler's Press - Is "What's in My Bag" Really That Interesting?
Yes I switch gears quite often so in any given day you pick, chances are my bag's content can be entirely different. And that is interesting to me and perhaps to many people too. I decided to do "What's in my bag" posts once in a while but the last one was already August 2009, the Seminar Edition. So here you go, what's in my bag in Feb/Mar 2010.
Well click on the photo to go to the Flickr page and see more precise descriptions on the photo, previous gears are shown in this flickr set in case you want to explore more. I was traveling to Tokyo and Korea for business and these were all I needed:
Orobianco pen case, Pentel Tradio pen, Staedtler mechanical pencil, Faber Castell perfect pencil wrapped with black MT tape, Canon F1 50mm/f1.2 camera, Pilot capless fountain pen, mind.Depositor 3 with Maruman Mnemosyne, Shiny handy stamp, Kokuyo kadokeshi eraser, Monogram leather film holder, lip balm wrapped in masking tape, paper clips, book dart etc, USB memory customized with leather cover and closure, Midori brass numbered clips, Name card case with dart flight closure, Midori brass ruler, Midori Traveler's notebook, Passport cover, Midori brass pencil.
Midori/Designphil asked me to show what's in my bag back in Feb when they were planning a "TRAVELER's notebook & company" event in Aoyama. Eventually the photo and my tips to age brass items were included in the Traveler's Press which was being sold at 320 yen at the event. It looks like a very interesting event with limited edition brass pen with Traveler's Notebook logo, charms, wooden stand, calendar, postcards along side with vintage goods such as tin can, match boxes, etc. They even have a coffee bean partner creating a special Traveler's Notebook blend so customers can enjoy a cup of coffee with their notebook after the event. As usual, I wish I were there to experience everything.

Hacking GTD Tabs And Index Cards Into Traveler's Notebook
The 5th anniversary edition Traveler's Notebook is way too attractive not to get. But how am I gonna carry everything in it including my GTD index cards which I normally put into my mind.Depositor? Well first, if you don't know how to put 4 notebooks into the leather cover, check out this previous post.
To put the 4 stacks of GTD index cards (next actions, project, waiting for and someday) into the notebook, first you use 2 pieces of thick paper cut to the size of the notebook refill cover, then insert them to one of the elastic bands just like you normally would do with a notebook refill. This will give you 4 pages/placeholders for the index cards. You can make the index cards more accessible by reducing the width of each page, the first page being the narrowest and so forth.
The rest is just easy, using binder clips to clip each stack of index cards onto the corresponding pages. If you are like me looking for more stylish way to use the clips, check out my previous post about how to make these Leather GTD Tabs.
Perhaps you've noticed an extra notebook on top of my Traveler's Notebook in the first image. It is a Moleskine weekly diary I need constant access to, I customized to make it likable together with Traveler's Notebook. Next year however, I don't need to do that anymore coz Midori is going to release a weekly refill in the format I like most - weekly diary on the left page, note space on the right! Can't wait for the 2012 weekly diary coming out, which will be around September 2011.
