Even at this time when we have been only a few backpack travellers, the clever and creative Thais provided a "tourist information“ where we could buy tickets for other local destinations per boat or bus, or get informations about local accommodations which have been small bungalow resorts build of wood and bamboo!
I took this photo in 1985 with my analog Nikon FE camera, on 35mm Kodakchrome slide film, and now scanned with Nikon Coolscan 4000D film scanner.

Saw this Fish from The Deep this morning while down at the shops . I am not sure what sort of fish it is meant to be but there it was swimming about in the window of the travel agents .
I had the clone out the stand it was on and I gave the shot a hard dark vignette for two reasons . One to give the illusion of a shot from the very depths of the oceans and two - to hide the reflections of the parked cars in front of the window !!
'Adventure before Dementia' is quite a catchy slogan!

126 Lexington Avenue, Manhattan, New York (northeast of Madison Square Park). From a color slide taken in the 1990s. The store has since moved to other locations. The travel agency located next door specialized in travel to South Asia.

Yup the penguins are out and holidays to the colder regions are on ! Well according to the window display at a local travel agency . I do wonder how wise it is going off to places where wildlife such as penguins and polar bears sometimes struggle to survive without mankind coming and upsetting the balance of life in these far flung places !!
Margo says: I'll just die if I don't get this recipe. I'll just die if I don't get this recipe. I'll just die if I don't get this recipe.
Margo writing in her journal at camp on one of her girl's only raft trips down the John Day River in Oregon; or maybe she is reading.
I've been hiding here on flickr for just over a year now , and at last he who took my portrait stumbled on me hidden away in the black in the private section - so here I am let loose on the world at last !!
Not sure where I was even when the camera got pointed at me - hang on though , I know now -- it was the window of a travel agent advertising somewhere to go where it was very cold I think . I did the same gig the year previous I recall now and that bloke pointed the camera at me back then as well !!
These were the other major Chinese buildings I wanted to capture in the Chinese Quarter. They are on Ladywell Walk.
See them from the bus usually.
In 2011 - it is the Chinese New Year (around late January / early February 2011) and it is the Chinese Year of the Rabbit.
The City Council will be holding festivities on Sunday the 6th of February 2011 (not planning on attending this). Birmingham City Council - Chinese New Year
It will start the Chinese year of 4709.
The main attraction here is Legs 11 - a strip club (I think).
On the left is a travel agent - United Travel.
Also on the left is China Court - Cantonese Restaurant.
The Indoor Markets are to the right.

So after the madness of the draft, Lady Vervaine has escaped from real life, to go on a much-needed holiday.... I'll still be checking in here from time to time, especially for 'ROID WEEK, which is starting on Monday, but won't be properly back online till I get home, in mid-November.... Sending you all big holiday hugs & kisses in the meantime!!! xoxo
Wakering Photography Group 10” X 08” Printed Challenge, the theme was a journalism photograph that tells the story.
Sadly the demise of one of the most established travel agents and carrier has been a major topic recently.
I have a lot of empathy for all the staff at Thomas Cook, they have always been polite, patient and immensely helpful.
I also feel for all the customers who were disappointed at the loss of their holiday and those who were delayed returning home.
As I understand it the administrators and Thomas Cook Staff who worked on with no wages did a magnificent job in ensuring the safe return of their customers.
Traditionally in Laos males would become novice monks at some point in their lives, giving them the opportunity to gain both an education and religious merit. Laos also has a somewhat unique belief among Buddhist countries that merit (boun) is transferrable among people, thus a son or daughter may make merit for a parent by temporarily entering a monastery. Lay persons are expected to feed and care for the monks of their local community, with the morning processions of monks (tak bat) who walk to collect offerings. Monks renounce material possessions and labor, thus the community and the monastery (wat) are bound in a mutually reinforcing relationship.

Note: This shot is "by chance", as I was stepping out of my hotel.
Such daily scenes do not happen only in the main street, where more tourists are seen, than Monks. ...

We usually only get two trick or treaters each year; one of whom is Zoe seen above. Lillian and Zoe were a little late this year and Margo was in the bath tub when they arrived.
She came out to see Zoe's costume festooned in her towel and we decided that was her costume "Mom getting out of the shower"
Mount Bromo is the main destination in Java Island, Indonesia.
The nearest way to reach Mount Bromo is from Surabaya International Airport, Malang, or Banyuwangi.
