L'ESEDRA IN TUTTO IL SUO SVILUPPO
In architettura, un'esedra รจ un incavo semicircolare, sovrastato da una semi-cupola, posto spesso sulla facciata di un palazzo. Il significato greco originale afferiva a una stanza che si apre su un portico, circondata tutt'intorno da banchi di pietra alti e ricurvi: un ambiente aperto destinato a luogo di ritrovo e conversazione filosofica. Un'esedra puรฒ anche risaltare da uno spazio vuoto ricurvo in un colonnato, magari con una sede semicircolare. L'esedra fu adottata dai Romani, per poi affermarsi in epoche storiche successive.
La villa Manin di Passariano รจ celebre per essere stata la casa di Ludovico Manin, l'ultimo Doge di Venezia e dove Napoleone Bonaparte vi dimorรฒ per due mesi conducendo la fase finale della campagna contro lo stato Veneto, dopo il bombardamento della nave francese "Liberatore d'Italia" del 17 aprile, ultimo atto bellico della Serenissima dai cannoni delle fortezze del Lido. Il generalissimo, furioso, proclamรฒ che sarebbe stato l'Attila per lo Stato Veneto.
Caduta Venezia nelle sale della villa vennero discusse le trattative per la resa.
Con il Trattato di Campoformido (17 ottobre 1797) tra Austria e Francia, firmato a Villa Manin, vennero cambiati i confini e i destini dell'Europa, premessa alla storia contemporanea.
Correva l'anno 1797 e l'avvenimento passa alla storia come el tremendo zorno del dodexe de majo, con la fine della millenaria storia della Veneta Serenisima Republica.

THE EXEDRA IN ALL ITS DEVELOPMENT
In architecture, an exedra is a semicircular hollow, surmounted by a semi-dome, often placed on the facade of a building. The original Greek meaning referred to a room that opens onto a portico, surrounded all around by tall and curved stone benches: an open space intended as a meeting place and philosophical conversation. An exedra can also stand out from a curved empty space in a colonnade, perhaps with a semicircular seat. The exedra was adopted by the Romans, and then established itself in subsequent historical periods.
Villa Manin di Passariano is famous for being the home of Ludovico Manin, the last Doge of Venice and where Napoleon Bonaparte lived there for two months, leading the final phase of the campaign against the Venetian state, after the bombing of the French ship "Liberatore of Italy "of 17 April, the last act of war by the Serenissima from the cannons of the Lido fortresses. The generalissimo, furious, proclaimed that he would be Attila for the Venetian state.
With the fall of Venice, the negotiations for the surrender were discussed in the halls of the villa.

The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is a triumphal arch of Paris built between 1807 and 1809 in neoclassical style.
Joins the Louvre courtyard to the Tuileries gardens. At the time of its construction, it was located very close to the destroyed Palazzo delle Tuileries. It is part of the so-called Axe historique, line taken during the urban development of the capital: it runs in a straight line several central areas of Paris: starting from the Louvre, passing through the Arc de Triomphe de l'รtoile, then arriving at the postmodern Arc de La Dรฉfense, symbol of the homonymous district.
In the arc of the Carrousel there are also some lateral openings which allow to pass under the arch from left to right and vice versa.
The architects Charles Percier and Pierre-Franรงois-Lรฉonard Fontaine were commissioned to build it. Charles Meynier was also chosen for the plastic decorations project. Inspired by the Battle of Austerlitz, these were performed by various sculptors and also reproduce different scenes inspired by peace negotiations.
Among the various friezes and inscriptions are identified various references to the Peace of Presburg, signed precisely in Presburg (now Bratislava), then capital of Hungary.
The quadriga placed on the building had previously been moved from Piazza San Marco (in 1798 after the Italian campaigns). After the Restoration, with the Napoleonic defeat, it returned to Venice anyway, only to be replaced by a copy on the arch of the Carrousel.

Congiunge il cortile del Louvre ai giardini delle Tuileries. All'epoca della sua costruzione, era situato molto vicino all'oggi distrutto Palazzo delle Tuileries. Fa parte della cosiddetta Axe historique, linea delineatasi durante lo sviluppo urbanistico della capitale: essa percorre in linea retta diverse zone centrali di Parigi: a partire dal Louvre, passa per l'Arc de Triomphe de l'รtoile, per poi arrivare al postmoderno Arco de La Dรฉfense, simbolo del quartiere omonimo.
Nell'arco del Carrousel sono presenti anche delle aperture laterali che consentono di passare sotto l'arco da sinistra a destra e viceversa.
Vennero incaricati della sua costruzione gli architetti Charles Percier e Pierre-Franรงois-Lรฉonard Fontaine. Venne inoltre scelto Charles Meynier per il progetto delle decorazioni plastiche. Ispirate alla battaglia di Austerlitz, queste furono eseguite da scultori vari e riproducono anche diverse scene ispirate alle trattative di pace.
Tra i vari fregi e iscrizioni, si identificano vari riferimenti alla Pace di Presburgo, firmata appunto a Presburgo (oggi Bratislava), allora capitale dell'Ungheria.
La quadriga posta sulla costruzione era stata trasferita da piazza San Marco in precedenza (nel 1798 dopo le campagne d'Italia). Dopo la Restaurazione, con la disfatta napoleonica, essa ritornรฒ comunque a Venezia, per poi essere sostituita, sull'arco del Carrousel, da una copia.

La chiesa cattedrale di San Giorgio dei Greci a Venezia รจ una antica chiesa Greco-ortodossa e considerata una delle piรน belle chiese ortodosse del mondo.
La sua costruzione avvenne grazie ai contributi degli ortodossi e dai marinai greci che arrivavano a Venezia ed il permesso della costruzione venne concesso dalla Serenissima dopo lunghe e complicate trattative.
La sua costruzione iniziรฒ nel 1539 e si concluse nel 1573. La piรน importante opera d'arte contenuta in essa รจ la bellissima icona bizantina del Cristo benedicente (inizi sec. XIV). Sono eccezionali anche i mosaici nell'abside dell'altare opera dell'artista di Corfรน Tommaso Bathas (1598). La chiesa era direttamente sottoposta al Patriarcato Ecumenico di Costantinopoli. Il campanile della chiesa, opera di Bernardo Ongarin (fine del 1500) รจ inclinato al pari della Torre di Pisa.
The cathedral church of Saint George of the Greeks in Venice is an ancient Greek Orthodox church and one of the most beautiful Orthodox churches in the world.
Its construction was due to the contributions of the Orthodox and Greek sailors who arrived in Venice and the construction permit was granted by the Venetian Serenissima after protracted negotiations.
Its construction began in 1539 and ended in 1573. The most important masterpiece contained in it is the beautiful Byzantine icon of Blessing Christ (beginning of XIV century). Are also exceptional the mosaics in the apse of the altar of Corfu painter Bathas Thomas (1598). The church was directly subjected to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. The church tower, designed by Bernardo Ongarin (late 1500) is leaning like the Tower of Pisa.

MS Achille Lauro was a cruise ship based in Naples, Italy. Built between 1939 and 1947 as MS Willem Ruys, a passenger liner for the Rotterdamsche Lloyd, she was hijacked by members of the Palestine Liberation Front in 1985.
In 1994, the ship caught fire and sank in the Indian Ocean off Somalia.

Concept and construction[edit]
Ordered in 1938 to replace the ageing ships on the Dutch East Indies route, her keel was laid in 1939 at De Schelde shipyard in Vlissingen, Netherlands, for Rotterdamsche Lloyd (now Nedlloyd). Interrupted by World War II and two bombing raids, the ship was finally launched in July 1946, as Willem Ruys. The ship was named after the grandson of the founder of the Rotterdamsche Lloyd who was taken hostage and shot during the war.
Willem Ruys was completed in late 1947. At that time, the Rotterdamsche Lloyd had been granted a royal prefix in honor of its services during the war. Willem Ruys was 192 metres (630 ft) in length, 25 metres (82 ft) in beam, had a draught of 8.9 metres (29.2 ft), and measured 21,119 gross register tons. Eight Sulzer engines drove two propellers. She could accommodate 900 passengers. She featured a superstructure very different from other liners of that era; Willem Ruys pioneered low-slung aluminium lifeboats, within the upper-works' flanks. The next ship to adopt this unique arrangement was the SS Canberra in 1961. Today, all cruise ships follow this layout.

On the East Indies route[edit]
As Willem Ruys, the ship began her maiden voyage on 5 December 1947. Together with her main competitor and running mate, the MS Oranje of the Netherland Line, she became a popular fixture on the Dutch East Indies route. However, when the East Indies gained independence from The Netherlands in 1949, passengers numbers decreased.
The former Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew had travelled aboard Willem Ruys as a fresh graduate upon completing his studies in the United Kingdom.[2]
Collision with Oranje[edit]
On 6 January 1953, Willem Ruys collided in the Red Sea with running mate MS Oranje, heading in the opposite direction. At that time, it was common for passenger ships to pass each other at close range to entertain their passengers. During the (later heavily criticized) abrupt and fast approach of Oranje, Willem Ruys made an unexpected swing to the left, resulting in a collision. It was a near-miss disaster. Oranje badly damaged her bow. Due to the possibility that she would be impounded for safety reasons, she was unable to call at Colombo as scheduled, and went directly to Jakarta. Willem Ruys suffered less damage. There was no loss of life involved. Later, it was determined that miscommunication on both ships had caused the collision.
Journey to Java[edit]
During 1957, the English diplomat, author and diarist Harold Nicolson, together with his wife, the author and poet, Vita Sackville-West toured the Far East for two months aboard Willem Ruys. The voyage is fully documented in his published journal of the trip "Journey to Java"[3] which provides a detailed account of first class travel on the vessel in the 1950s.
Later years[edit]
After repairs, Royal Rotterdam Lloyd decided to release Willem Ruys on the North Atlantic run. First, she was placed on the New York service, and later Canada was included.
In 1958, the Royal Rotterdamsche Lloyd and the Netherland Line signed a co-operative agreement to create a round-the-world passenger service. The joint fleet would sail under the banner of "The Royal Dutch Mail Ships". Together with Oranje and Johan van Oldenbarneveldt, Willem Ruys underwent an extensive refit to prepare her for this new service. She made two charter trips to Montreal for the Europa-Canada service. Then, from 20 September 1958, until 25 February 1959, she underwent a major facelift at the Wilton-Fijenoord shipyard in Amsterdam, turning her from a passenger liner into a cruise ship. Her original four class distinctions became First and Tourist Class. A hundred new cabins were installed and air-conditioning was extended throughout all accommodations. The Javanese crew members were replaced by Europeans, who required upgraded crew accommodation. Externally, she was fitted with a new glazed in Tourist Class Wintergarden, her forward funnel was heightened and stabilizers were fitted. Willem Ruys was now able to accommodate 275 first class, and 770 tourist class passengers, although there were many interchangeable cabins which had additional berths fitted, which could increase the maximum passenger number to 1167. Her new specifications would see her tonnage increase from 21,119 to 23,114 gross register ton.
On 7 March 1959, Willem Ruys went off on her new world service to Australia and New Zealand. She departed from Rotterdam, sailing via Southampton, the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal, Fremantle, Melbourne, Sydney, New Zealand, returning via the Panama Canal. The Royal Dutch Mail Ships (Willem Ruys, Johan van Oldenbarnevelt and Oranje) became a popular alternative to the British liners.
At the end of 1964, due to a strong drop in passenger numbers, Willem Ruys was laid up in Rotterdam and put up for sale.
As Achille Lauro[edit]
In 1965, she was sold to the Flotta Lauro Line, or Star Lauro, (now MSC Cruises) and renamed Achille Lauro (after the company owner). Extensively rebuilt and modernized after an August 1965 onboard explosion, Achille Lauro entered service in 1966 carrying passengers to Sydney, Australia. The ship played a role in evacuating the families of British servicemen caught up in the unrest in Aden, and then made one of the last northbound transits through the Suez Canal prior to its closure during the Six Day War.
Achille Lauro was converted to a cruise ship in early 1972, during which time she suffered a disastrous fire. A 1975 collision with the cargo ship Youseff resulted in the sinking of the latter, and another onboard fire in 1981 took her out of service for a time. She was laid up in Tenerife when Lauro Lines went bankrupt in 1982. The Chandris Line took possession of her under a charter arrangement in 1985, shortly before the hijacking.
1985 hijacking[edit]

On 7 October 1985, four members of the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF) took control of the liner off Egypt as she was sailing from Alexandria to Port Said. Holding the passengers and crew hostage, they directed the vessel to sail to Tartus, Syria, and demanded the release of 50 Palestinians then in Israeli prisons. After being refused permission to dock at Tartus, the hijackers killed disabled Jewish-American passenger Leon Klinghoffer and then threw his body overboard.[4]
The ship then headed back towards Port Said, and after two days of negotiations, the hijackers agreed to abandon the liner in exchange for safe conduct and were flown towards Tunisia aboard an Egyptian commercial airliner. This plane, however, was intercepted by US fighter aircraft and directed to land in Sicily, where the hijackers were arrested and later tried for murder.
Later years, fire, and sinking[edit]
The ship continued in service; she was reflagged in 1987 when the Lauro Line was taken over by the Mediterranean Shipping Company to become StarLauro. On 30 November 1994, she caught fire off the coast of Somalia while en route to South Africa. At that time, the cause of the fire was suggested by Italian officials to be a discarded cigarette. In reality, the fire started in the engine room with the explosion of one of the engines; due to the lack of supervision, the fire burned out of control before discovery.[5] The crew attempted to battle the fire for several hours but were unsuccessful.[6] Abandoned, the vessel sank on 2 December 1994.[7]

Ordinata nel 1938 come Willem Ruys, il suo scafo venne impostato nel 1938 a Vlissingen, Paesi Bassi, per i Rotterdamsche Lloyd. La costruzione venne ritardata dalla seconda guerra mondiale e da due bombardamenti e la nave non venne varata fino al luglio 1946. La Willem Ruys venne completata alla fine del 1947 e compรฌ il suo viaggio inaugurale il 2 dicembre 1947. Era dotata di un impianto di desalinizzazione per ricavare acqua potabile dall'acqua di mare. Fino al 1963 rimase in servizio sulla linea Europa-Australia. Successivamente venne usata per crociere nel Mediterraneo.
Nel 1964, venne venduta alla Flotta Lauro e ribattezzata Achille Lauro. Ricostruita estensivamente e modernizzata nei Cantieri del Tirreno di Palermo, rientrรฒ in servizio nel 1966 come nave da crociera. Nell'aprile 1975, mentre si trovava nello stretto dei Dardanelli entrรฒ in collisione con una nave trasporto bestiame, la Yousset che affondรฒ. Nel 1982 successivamente al fallimento della Flotta Lauro, passรฒ alla Lauro Line della Mediterranean Shipping Company.
Per quattro volte (1965, 1972, 1981 e 1994) fu vittima di incendi, l'ultimo dei quali, scoppiato il 30 novembre 1994 ne causรฒ l'affondamento il 2 dicembre, tre giorni dopo.

Il 7 ottobre 1985, mentre compiva una crociera nel Mediterraneo, al largo delle coste egiziane, venne dirottata da un commando del Fronte per la Liberazione della Palestina (FLP). A bordo erano presenti 201 passeggeri e 344 uomini dell'equipaggio.
Dopo frenetiche trattative diplomatiche si giunse in un primo momento ad una felice conclusione della vicenda, grazie all'intercessione dell'Egitto, dell'OLP di Arafat (che in quel periodo aveva trasferito il quartier generale dal Libano a Tunisi a causa dell'invasione israeliana del Libano) e dello stesso Abu Abbas (uno dei due negoziatori, proposti da Arafat, insieme a Hani El Hassan, un consigliere dello stesso Arafat[1]), che convinse i terroristi alla resa in cambio della promessa dell'immunitร .
Due giorni dopo si scoprรฌ tuttavia che a bordo era stato ucciso un cittadino americano, Leon Klinghoffer, ebreo e paralitico: l'episodio provocรฒ la reazione degli Stati Uniti.
L'Achille Lauro nella stagione 1986/87
Dopo aver lasciato Alessandria e aver effettuato uno scalo in Grecia, l'Achille Lauro si diresse verso Napoli, quando la CIA passรฒ un'informazione, forse proveniente dai servizi egiziani, relativa alla possibile presenza di esplosivo su alcune casse caricate ad Alessandria. Pur non potendo verificare la veridicitร dell'informazione il SISMI, in accordo con il comandante della nave, decise per precauzione di far gettare in mare alcune casse di cui non era stato possibile far controllare il contenuto.[1]
Nel 1990 il dirottamento venne raccontato in un film per la televisione, Il viaggio del terrore: la vera storia dell'Achille Lauro con Burt Lancaster e Eva Marie Saint.
L'affondamento[modifica wikitesto]
La nave fu acquisita nel 1987 dalla Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A.. Il 30 novembre 1994, mentre era in navigazione al largo della Somalia, scoppiรฒ un incendio che tre giorni piรน tardi, il 2 dicembre 1994 ne causรฒ l'affondamento. L'incendio causรฒ due morti, uno dei quali schiacciato da una scialuppa di salvataggio durante un'errata manovra nelle fasi di evacuazione e uno per complicanze cardiovascolari. La maggior parte dei passeggeri venne salvato dal vascello battente bandiera panamense Hawaiian King. Una parte dell'equipaggio venne tratta in salvo dalla fregata Zeffiro della Marina Militare Italiana che rientrava da una missione a Jedda. Le operazioni di salvataggio furono coordinate dal comandante Maurizio Gemignani supportato dal comandante in seconda Cosimo Nicastro e dal direttore sanitario medico di bordo dr Nicola Freda. I passeggeri superstiti vennero scortati nel porto di Gibuti sotto la supervisione del GM Davide Bottalico Ufficiale Medico della Fregata Zeffiro. Secondo la commissione d'inchiesta istituita dal ministero dei Trasporti l'incendio fu dovuto al caso. Non รจ pensabile il recupero del relitto, per via della sua antieconomicitร e per via del fatto che nel punto dell'affondamento, a 95 miglia dalla costa somala, in pieno Oceano Indiano, la profonditร รจ di circa 5 000 m.

This specimen photographed in StoricBus's historic buses depot in Sarzana is the number 2729 former TPER Bologna, this bus shot in the streets of Bologna from 1970 to 1986, then after remaining stopped for about three years, in 1989 it was purchased by ATAM Rimini, and stays there until 2012 when he joined in the fleet of "Start Romagna" is used in the summer for the discos service of Rimini, then in the autumn of 2015 is decomissioned due to inactivity and he risk of being scrapped, and finally in the spring of 2016, after months of negotiations finally he becomes part of the historic fleet of StoricBus and so saved from "sure death".

Castelmezzano is a small village of Basilicata, with a group of houses built on the Lucan Dolomites. ROMEโA fast-food fight has broken out in the shadow of Florenceโs magnificent, centuries-old Duomo.
The bitter battle is pitting McDonaldโs Corp. against Florenceโs city fathers, whoโin the name of a beautification campaignโare trying to keep the fast-food giant from opening a new restaurant a stoneโs throw from Brunelleschiโs soaring dome.
The war has its roots in new licensing rules that Florenceโs city hall passed in January with the aim of beating back the proliferation of mini-markets, kebab shops and convenience stores that serve throngs of flip-flop clad tourists in the city of Dante and Michelangelo.
The new rules favor food outlets serving up Tuscan fare, but subject all others to an exacting scorecard to determine whether they make the grade to grace Florenceโs historic center.
When news broke in the spring that McDonaldโs, which has long struggled to win Italians over to Big Macs and gigantic milk shakes, was seeking permission to open its 10th restaurant in Florence alongside the Duomo, a local insurgency ensued. More than 24,000 people signed an online petition in protest. Some launched an event dubbed Lampredotto Prideโnamed after a Florentine specialty made from cowโs stomachโand marched into the city center brandishing local products and dishes.
โFlorentines have been pushed out of the historic center, which is already crammed with stores offering shoddy, and often expensive, food,โ said Gilberto Bertini, who headed the protest.
Eager to lure some of the roughly three million tourists visiting the Duomo each year, McDonaldโs was willing to rewrite its own rule book to win over the city.
Wait staff would serve customers at tables, thus eliminating takeaway orders to deflect the cityโs fears of hordes of picnicking tourists. The Americans also promised to source 80% of ingredients locally, including 100 tons of Tuscanyโs prided Chianina beef for burgers.
But city officials were nonetheless merciless in grading the newfangled McDonaldโs, granting failing grades to the project on originality and locally sourced products. McDonaldโs even put forth a proposal for a completely new store design that retained only its golden arches: the idea earned a 5.4 out of 10.
Last month, McDonaldโs struck back, filing an โฌ18-million ($19.8-million) lawsuit against the city that branded the official response as โa manifest injustice.โ A profanity that the mayor of Florence used publicly to describe McDonaldโs earlier this year betrayed โa belligerent contrariety,โ the suit says.
โWe completely agree that the cultural and artistic heritage and the Italian historical town centers have to be protected,โ McDonaldโs said in a statement. โBut we cannot accept discriminatory regulations that damage the freedom of private initiative without helping anyone.โ
The city, which has beaten back other challenges to its new rules, remains unmoved. โItโs a not a blanket rejection of McDonaldโs,โ says Giovanni Bettarini, Florenceโs deputy head of tourism and economic development. โItโs just a rejection of that specific project.โ
The battle in Florence reflects tensions elsewhere in Italy, where local authorities are struggling to defend centuries-old town centers from hordes of tourists. In its complaint in Florence, McDonaldโs in turn threatens other suits should other towns pass similar local identity regulations.
Indeed, residents in Rome are now challenging the opening of a 6,000-square-foot McDonaldโs just outside St. Peterโs Square on the grounds that it violates local rules aimed at protecting Romeโs mom-and-pop trattorie and restaurants.
Locals, including cardinals, view the new McDonaldโs as further degradation of the Eternal City, which saw tourist numbers rise by a third to almost 14 million between 2010 and 2015.
โThe problem is not McDonaldโs per se,โ said Moreno Prosperi, who is leading the protest by Roman residents. โThe area is already saturated with fast-food outlets, cheap souvenir shops and convenience stores.โ Elsewhere in Rome, residents around Piazza Navona are still seething over McDonaldโsโ opening of a new outlet there few weeks ago.
Rome city officials say the vagueness of existing rules gives them no grounds to deny the authorization, but they are considering an overhaul of the regulations aimed at preserving traditional businesses in historic areas.
Italy has long been a challenging market for McDonaldโs. When it opened one of its first Italian restaurants in Romeโs Piazza di Spagna in 1986, demonstrators bearing plates of spaghetti protested. The event helped prod Carlo Petrini to launch his Slow Food movement that year. Today, McDonaldโs has 540 restaurants in Italy with about โฌ1 billion in revenue. But that is just 2% of Italyโs casual dining market.
In food-savvy France, by comparison, the American chain has also sparked protests over the yearsโmost infamously in 1999, when a group of farmers sacked a McDonaldโs under construction in the countryโs southwest. But its similar moves to adapt to the French market, such as using homegrown products and selling โMcBaguettesโ and macarons, have found more success: More than 1,300 McDonaldโs outlets operate in France, although its population of nearly 67 million people is only 10% larger than Italyโs 60.7 million.
Some in Italy say the anti-McDonaldโs campaign is misguided. Massimiliano Tonelli, content manager of the Gambero Rosso, an Italian bible on quality food and wine, said the proliferation of gelato parlors and Italian-owned eateries serving mediocre Italian fare is a far greater threat to the countryโs culinary heritage.
โWhen tourists eat fake or shoddy Italian food, the harm to our cuisineโs image is huge,โ Tonelli said. โIf those tourists had eaten at a fast-food restaurant, there would have been no such harm.โ

zia insegna all'universitร per stranieri e periodicamente arrivano tante belle fanciulle dall'estero, quindi i professori e l'universitร , per far sentire gli alunni a proprio agio organizzano gite e cene, a volte con piatti tipici calabresi altre con piatti tipici delle piรน svariate parti del mondo...ergo i due baldi giovani hanno tentato di corrompere la zia per tutta la serata nell'intento di essere invitati a questi eventi, ma soprattutto per avere l'anteprima delle "ondate migratorie" delle belle fanciulle straniere...e a qto pare...ci sn riusciti ;-)
