Looking north over Trapper Creek, Alaska. Inside the red circle is the little red cabin we used to spend summers at. The tallest summit in the distance is Denali. From the cabin to the summit is roughly 60 miles as the raven flies. Clearly visible is Oilwell Road running north, it's intersection with Petersville Road and Moose Creek running along the west side of Oilwell Road.
On August 12, 2006 we hiked Trapper Peak in Montana which is the highest peak in the Bitterroot Range at an elevation of 10,157. Trapper is located south of Darby and west of US Highway 93. The hike was a total of 12 miles (6 miles in and 6 back) and the total elevation gain was just about 4,000 feet.
We left the truck at 9am and finally reached the summit at 5pm. The weather was perfect with temperatures only reaching the mid 80s. There was a slight overcast, but that didn't stop us from getting burned. We enjoyed the views from the top of Trapper for almost an hour before we decided we better head back to the truck. We left the summit at 5:45pm and finally arrived back at the truck at 8:30pm, sore feet and all. We were definitely sore for the next couple days, but the views we saw were well worth the trip.

A fur trader and trapper's entrance wall. Near Coldfoot. Jack Reakoff was his name. Smart guy. Has lived in the bush all his life. Lives mostly off the land, harvesting renewable resources, and making furs and jewelry out of the bones and teeth of the animals he kills.
